Google is afraid of Samsung, which is why the Pixel 4 is lackluster.

They just don't know any better. But that doesn't make loading these phones up with crap you can't remove ok. Give be a good reason why you can't remove Facebook from the S10+. It's not just that they include it in the phone they make it physically impossible to remove it unless you are about to root it and remove it with ADB.

I know a number of people like the one guy in this thread that detests all things Facebook. Why force people have that in their phone? I mean if they're going to include it at least make it easy to remove.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is Samsung gets $$s to include FB on their phones. In this day and age it is all about the money.

I'm sure that's the reason. It was a rhetorical question. You know why they get paid? It's not because they want more people to use it (because most of the world that has access to it already uses it). It's because that app is tracking your data whether you use it or not and sending it to Facebook.

Do you really believe FB is gathering info about us -surely you jest - :):):):):)

I suspect everybody is collecting info about us, one way or another. It is the way business is done the world today.

Yeah...its way too late for this concern. Driver licenses, bank accounts, email....FB is just part of the queue. But what is funny, are all the comments about the 'secret underhanded way they learn everything about us". I want to be in on the beta for the chip in your wrist thingy...or the phone in the hand....like on that movie...

Well since you know the reason then you also know that not including these apps would raise the price of the device. Given the option most people don't want to pay more.

Even my current Huawei phone had Facebook system files and setup files installed. Had to use adb to remove them same with my s10+. While I was at it, I also removed the unremovable Google app also. Since I don't use Google *** istant.

I personally HATE Samsung phones. I will never buy one again. They pack too much crap onto their phones that you can't remove and it only shows the dang thing down or drains the battery like crazy. TouchWiz is miserable. Seriously who needs 4 channel changer apps? If more people knew exactly what the Pixel and other almost vanilla Android devices were really all about (simplicity, speed, customization, NO BLOATWARE, etc.) they'd probably be more popular. Not to mention Samsung does a lot better job with their advertising. I guess 82 selfie apps that put bunny ears on you can only go so far...
Get a bootloader unlocked one, problem fixed .

To illustrate how much power Samsung has over Google, look at how big of a user Samsung is for them. Its 44% of their phone software business. And they just lost their 2nd largest Huawei, which will no longer use Android going forward.

If Samsung was to abandon Android, it would crush Google's phone business. They make a fortune off phone data collection and would lose a huge chunk.

Also interesting tidbit, if Samsung went with their own operating system, their market share would be larger than Apple's, so the app developers would follow.

If Samsung drops Android OS, is forces to sell users on buying into flagship hardware on a non-proven phone OS & security, and on a system that doesn't offer access to the Play Store, they've got a nigh impossible task ahead of them.

But if they did? Samsung would retain some of the faithful, but lose an unimaginable chunk of its base to Apple, LG, Google, Sony, OnePlus, Moto, and everyone else whose devices run on one of the tried and true two OS that operate on about 99% of all mobile devices worldwide

Samsung would likely be about as successful in staving off massive decline in its newly integrated Samsung OS/mobile phone business as Google has at been at growing its Pixel business. Samsung loses, Google takes a sting that at least is softened by their, and all of their remaining OS partners, gaining a good chunk of Samsung's business, and Apple walks away the huge winner.

Add to that, building an OS optimized for phones isn't as easy as one might think, and I suspect Samsung would be well behind Huawei in that regard...

That’s just condescending. If most people are fine with it, then there is no problem.

Long time. I've had Nexus/Pixel phones for years now. I honestly hate all the crap these companies do to Android. It just slows the phones down. As long as there's a Pixel I'll never go back and probably not even then. Samsung is trash IMO...

Samsung is trash? You've got to be kidding. You are definitely in the minority

I totally disagree. BTW, I am Samsung Note user and have been for years, phones and tablets. I am a big SPen user, a major part of my business usage.

I don't think Google HW design is influenced by Samsung. I believe Google HW strongly reflects Google's connectivity view of the world. Many here on this forum echo this view.

The same is true for Microsoft under Nadella. Many old school MS users do not get it, they are stuck in the Balmer era. They can't comprehend why MS has chosen Android. Nadella said it best a few weeks ago. MS could care less about the OS layer. Today everything is about getting their services widely used. MS mobile market share now with serices like O365 is huge. Something they never would have achieved trying to flog their own mobile OS.

I don't buy fully in, but I do buy partially in to Google complete view of connectivity. I love being a Google fiber customer. I like the flexibility of Android and the options of different devices and manufacturers. I also, like the new Dex and Your Phone changes MS and Samsung delivered on the Note 10. Now that MS is tied to Android I think all those who use MS will greatly benefit over the next 12 months.

I think the Pixel phones are great devices for many people. If they meet your needs go for them. I think Samsung, One Plus, Motorola and others are great phone options. I also, think iPhones are a great option for many who like the iOS system. Buy what works best for you.

BTW, Samsung has zero plans to use Tizen for anything but as a IOT OS, and that includes watches. They did a few very low end phones several years ago, but that effort has ended.

I havent used an actual windows pc in about 5 years. Been using mac and a little linux. Went back to windows to get back to my pc gaming roots. I am honestly blown away by the google/microsoft integration all around. I get my phone notifications on my pc. I reply to text messages all the time. My pc also backs up to my google drive automatically in real time. All the features that apple brags about about with continuity of the ios/mac, are very present and are only going to get better now that microsoft has dove head first into android compatibility.

Why does this keep coming up? Samsung has not talked about alternative phone OSs in years. Samsung is concerned about their percentage of the high end phone market. People keep thinking the battle is between iOS and Android. The battle is who can sell the most high end phones.

If they are scared of Samsung then they should just drop out of making phones. The Pixel 4 looks like the weakest Pixel phone relative to its competition. Competitors have caught up with the camera, the battery life is terrible, the UI in 10 is a step backwards from the excellent Oreo. For what Google are offering at the price they want, the only thing they should be scared of is consumers comparing the Pixel to its competitors. The iPhone 11 is a better phone in every respect and cheaper too.

No idea why the OP brought it up - my post was intended to point out so many of the fallacies in rebuttal of the argument he made.

Customers perceive the battle as being iOS vs Android, Apple vs Samsung vs Google vs LG vs etc...
The companies are waging battle over revenue.

In that sense, Google is winning with over 3/4 of all mobile devices in the world running on Google's OS, giving them revenue stemming from collected information from its services that dwarfs the hardware revenues. I suspect they've taken a loss with every Nexus and Pixel launch to date, or at best barely broken even, and they're ok with that.

The product line still serves some functions. It nudges other OEMs towards Google's vision of hardware that best enables their OS to remain dominant (small loss on hardware to reinforce ongoing deluge of profits from services). Also, it gives them a platform with which to keep Android and Google's names in high discussion (leak after leak keeping them at the top of the daily mobile tech recaps wasn't an accident).

There's one problem with the iPhone that will never be fixed. It's made by Apple. That's a non starter for a lot of people including myself...

IMO I think the phone is an ancillary piece of hardware being used to test other technology they have longer term interests in. People are complaining round and round about what was put out this year, because it didn't have things they typically associate with a high end phone. Yet, it's still a much better piece of technology than last year's pixel. Why?

Well, they made big leaps in the photography processing capabilities and were able to implement in a hybrid way with a new telephoto lens. They created a new radar chip, shrunk it down and put it in a phone. Were able to compress and store a large amounts of Google assistant data and store it on the phone to make queries faster and were able to figure out live transcribing.

They made a huge deal about ambient computing during the presentation and they're investing heavily in quantum computing. Even if Google only sells a couple hundred thousand phones a year, that's a pretty dang big test group of early adopters who can give valuable feedback to help them improve the technology they may be developing for the future.
