Google maps is extremely laggy on my note 4

Hey guys,

Love my note 4, but Google maps is extremely laggy. Especially when I have navigation on for a while. I cleared my cache and stuff and it doesn't help. It lags when I try to zoom out... Often the lag is 2 to 4 seconds before my action gets registered...

Like I would move the map and 3 seconds later the map moves. This is beyond acceptable because this is one of the main apps I use.

Any tips? I searched but didn't see anything.

Thanks

Have you tried storing the map for offline use? I only have that problem when cell coverage is poor or the cell network us busy (such as during peak commute times). Instructions for storing Google Maps for offline use are in the help for maps

I have and I thought that as well, but when I was in a good cell coverage, full bars with 4g it still lagged.

Even still, this is not an excuse for the app to basically crawl to an unusable state.

2 second is hardly unusable ... Think about that

Just curious...What kind of sd card do you have if any at all? Certain sd cards seem to be wreaking havoc on the Note 4 in several areas of device performance.

MAY THE 4 BE WITH YOU!

A 2 second lag from when I try to move or zoom out of the map is unacceptable. If you think 2 seconds everytime you touch the app is not unusable then I don't know what to say.

It's not a one time 2 second lag then smoothness... It is a 2 second lag everytime I touch the screen.

Have you tried a factory data reset?

I think it's maps, not the GN4, because I'm having the same problem with maps and navigation on my tab S 8.4. I'm also having it on my GN4. The last map update must have done something nasty, because it wasn't always like this.

Google has been effing up lately on their app quality . Maps is slow as molasses on both my Note 4 and iPad Air

I used Google Maps on my Nexus 6 and Note 4 on a trip to San Francisco and while navigating was smooth on the Nexus, it was horrible on the Note. My position would lag behind while I was moving or my position would erratically bounce around the map. I've never had this happen on any of the phones I've previously used(Nexus 5 and OnePlus One) so I think it's the Note 4 and not the app.

I think it's a crappy GPS antenna to go with a poor WiFi antenna on the Note 4. Going to use Here Maps to see if it's the hardware that's at fault.

My Note 4 / iPhone 6 + both run maps just fine. I am not sure what is causing your slow down.

Same issue here. I have missed several turns because of this lag.

See now tht's pretty messed up...I am sorry to hear that.
I usually lock my phone and let G maps run in background and it THANK GOD i have never ran into any issues...Knock on wood!

I hvnt noticed it on maps since I hardly use it, but I do know that I've never seen such a slow YouTube app on a phone as on the note 4.. Would be funny if google is fcking with Samsung over tizen etc xD

I noticed this today with Google Maps. I switched over to Sygic and it worked like a charm so the issue was not with the h/w.

the new version of google maps blows... i've reverted back to version 6.14. you can get yours below as well.

[APP]install Google Maps 6 and 7 and use them together[Root/NoRoot][22.06.2014] - Page 10 - XDA Forums

I was just gonna say, I haven't updated Google Maps in a while. Most of the reviews left behind complain about features being taken away or the app becoming worse. I mostly use Waze and Here now anyway since Google Maps doesn't allow you to navigate without a set destination which ironically I used to be able to do on my old S2 because I never updated the app but can't on my N4.

Any ideas on a fix? I really like the note but this has me thinking of going back to nexus phones. I use maps a ton

Only what we've discussed above: look at other apps, like HERE or Sygic, or wait for a Google Maps update, or try going back to an earlier version.
