Google Messages vs. Samsung Messages: What's your preference and why?

Interesting. I wonder if accessing your messages works with Samsung Messages without having to use DEX.

I don't see a web interface for Samsung Messages. I've tried using Link to Windows and that doesn't work at all. But I just tried with Dex (thanks for the suggestion) and that works, although not as seamlessly as Google Messages.

Samsung messages, you get to hover your pen over the web addresses to reveal a sneak preview, who doesn't want that!
RCS also enabled here, haven't had the need to use it but its there, also everything that I need for customisation is there, also I like to keep things as stock as I can.

Samsung messages has better functionality and I want to use it.

But until there is an easy reliable way to use it on my PC like Google messages I wont use it.

I use the Samsung app. When rcs was launched it didn't have it so I tried Google my S10 kept warning about high battery usage so I uninstalled it. No issues with Samsung Messages

I use Samsung messages over Google for several reasons.

1. It has conversation mode
2. You can pin conversations to the top
3. You can categorise your messages
4. It follows my phone theme
5. It is super fast
6. Works well with dual sim
7. It isn't clunky
8. My version runs RCS and backs up my RCS messages to Samsung cloud. Google messages doesn't backup RCS messages properly.

Those are my reasons. Google Messages has messages for Web which is handy, but if I am wanting to use my phone features in a desktop mode I use Dex anyway.

That is a good summary Kizzy. But I may be biased because it pretty much follows my own reasons for using it :)

Its not bloat if it works better than the native app or you like it better.

Already have 2 messaging apps thanks to Verizon/Samsung, in the unlikely event I actually preferred Googles app over the other 2 it would still result in 3 messaging apps on my phone and thus more bloat. I would just call Samsung software bloat instead of Googles.

I get your point but as wide as the bloat definition is, it usually does not apply to a third party app. It's usually refers to preinstalled apps that cannot be removed.

Yeah, I thought it was weird that my unlocked Note 10+ didn't use RCS universal profile with Samsung Messages, but it does on my Ultra with T-Mobile.

This is because RCS requires carrier participation since it goes through the carrier switchboards. Sprint and T-Mobile were quick to adopt it I believe. Eventually, Google got tired of waiting for the carriers and implemented RCS on all Android devices provided they use the Google Messages app. This is because Google routes RCS messages through the phones Data connection. Samsung Is the only other app that can use RCS too.

I prefer Android Messages and heres why:

- Ability to archive messages (for work I text about 15 people at the same time and it helps me stay organized)
- RCS which Verizon doesn't support in the Samsung app
- Ability to text from my computer
- The interface is clean and not ugly like Samsung's

Pretty much all carrier have RCS on stock Samsung message app, where it gets tricky is unlocked models don't get this but some sprint users on unlocked have mentioned it's working , Att and TMobile doesn't and I believe Verizon also on the unlocked models.

Samsung messages for me,I'm a big fan of the dark mode and the customization on it,just waiting for them to add RCS and it will make a perfect messaging app.

Oh man, such a tough choice. Coming from a Google Pixel 2, I preferred Google Messages. But when I started to use my S10, I switched over to Samsung's app equivalent to see what that experience was like.

I thoroughly enjoy both! It is very difficult to make a decision. I believe I'd be very happy using either. However, I do like the customization options with Samsung's messages, especially with Theme Park.
