Maybe be a weird question but you guys would know best, is there a way to navigate using constant Google Street View? I would love to be able to see exactly what the road looks like as I am actually on it with live Street View updates as I travel.

For the record, I have used Google Navigation. It worked very well and was really accurate. I like the way it would instantly reroute the journey if you took a different route than what was recommended at first. I also like the voice command feature.

Looking forward to playing with the Sprint version late next week.

Iive never tried sprint but i have tried google app a lot and it works great for me compared to another like verizon nav or garmin gps...the voice is annoying but the turn by turn is awsom on top of that u add all the feauteres integrated in the app thet makes it a great nav app.

I'm still (stuck) on the Pre, but I've used both on that platform and Sprint Nav was far better than Goggle Maps. Hopefully the Google Maps experience on the EVO will be better.

Just an FYI, Sprint Nav/telenav has everything listed there except "night view" and street view.

Sprint Navigation DOES have night view, both when I had my Pre and also on my Hero.

I've been using Sprint's Navigation since I got the Pre at launch and then the Hero last October. I was VERY excited for my Hero's 2.1 update because I was eager to try out Google Navigation. Aside from the voice which is borderline horrible since it's mostly, if not all, text to speech... I'd have to say I'm pretty impressed. I like that it has constantly updated search results, more accurate voice recognition, faster load times than Sprint Nav, faster re-routing times and the satellite view while driving is AWESOME. Very slick. Also, when you arrive at your destination it pulls up the streetview so you can see the building that you should be looking for. It also links to your contact addresses much quicker, whereas Sprint's takes forever to re-sync each time you want to pull them up. It's nice that it has Recent Destinations right on the "home screen" of the app... makes everything nice and accessible.

I vote GoogleNav!

They both are good but have flaws

I have used Sprint Nav for a few years, and it always works great, but getting it up and running has been a pain every time, wether or not my phone wont access the GPS right away or the application crashes. I have to usually allow about 5 minutes to get it started, type the address and get it ready and synced with the GPS signal. *assuming i do not have to pull the battery* But Sprint Nav has always been very accurate, the turn by turn is awesome, and its very easy to look at.

Google nav on the other hand is awesome, it starts much faster. But my favorite feature on my Android handset is that I can type in a place, like the vet for instance, and if the address is in the google search results, then you can click it, then open it up in Google Nav and it will direct you there from your current location. Which is something that I do not know if Sprint Nav can do. I have tried before, with no luck. So thats the main reason i voted for Google nav. However it generally gets you to the area you want, but not directly there.

So sprint nav is harder to use but more accurate, but google nav is easier, faster, has more features, but does not quite get you to the front door.

I like Sprint nav for the traffic and turn by turn. It's come a long way. I myself am looking forward in about two weeks to testing both. I think Google will be a delight, as well. Maybe more so for walking? We'll see.

Can't wait.

I've used Sprint and Google over the last couple of years. My vote is for Sprint. In my experience, it has always been more accurate (I don't know how many times Google as led me astray or to a business that has been closed for a year). I've also found it to be more forgiving when typing in an address.

Sprint is better, when you get service... My friend has the droid and I have the palm pre (I know, I'm upgrading when the Evo comes out, have my pre-order on hand) and we were coming back from South Carolina, Google took us all these weird places trying to avoid I-95 (We're from Jersey) while Sprint was trying to tell us the quickest way to get to I-95. I don't know if he had his settings crossed but I swore that was his supposed fastest route. Long story short, we used Sprint Nav until my Pre died, thankfully by the Google Nav couldn't mess it up cause we were literally right down the street from I-95, lol.

I have a Pre so don't have Google Nav. I only tried Google Nav for a short test on my girlfriend's Hero. From my short test, I noticed that the voice in G'Nav is very robotic compared to Sprint Nav.

Also, if you go to sprint.com/navigation you can save a bunch of destinations from a PC that will be auto-forwarded to Sprint Nav for easier travel planning. Not sure if this a functionality with G'Nav.

I would have to say I like google Nav. Its cached, which is important with a CDMA service provider because you are still getting directions should your map disappear with an incoming phone call (happend to me with Sprint Nav when I was close to my location). Also the interface is nicer, and still provides traffic information. Also the streetview helps greatly (although not always perfect).

The sprint nav has an easier on the ears voice.
The google nav has an easier voice search feature on the hero. (A pity, sprint nav has an even better voice search feature on the instinct s30 of all things, but I can't seem to get it working on the hero)

In the end, I use the google nav for short trips as it seems to do bigger cities a slight bit better, and sprint nav for long trips as it has built in traffic features and I can stand the voice for longer.

I have used both quite a bit and they are pretty much a match when you just need to navigate to your destination. Sprints Nav may edge out Google on accuracy at times and that is a big deal when you need the service to be dead on.
However... there is nothing nicer then having the option for street view or having your street view pop up when you get to your destination. The option to just say what your looking for and be able to quickly get to your directions is a plus on Googles side too.

Lets hope the new use and demand of the Google Map service will bring updates to their mapping system. It needs it.
