Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: Verizon again missing from Nexus 6 page

I think Verizon is going to make you guys wait as well. Some interesting stuff going around. Of course, take it with a grain of salt.

This doesn't actually worry me too much. I've got a play store version ordered and from what I read it will work. Verizon might not sell them but I don't need them to. They might not support them but most nexus users I've encountered are pretty good at using sites like this or xda to find out whatever they need. I don't need Verizon to help in any way except to let me use the network. As long as they don't suddenly decide to block all nexus 6 phones from their network I should be fine.

I read through both links and most of the comments and the gist of it is:

1) Verizon is doing testing and they want their MyVerizon app to work and have special features on the Nexus, primarily for tech support (they do this for all their phones). There are bugs with this and this is why it may take a while for Verizon to officially 'release' the Nexus 6, hence rumors of a Dec 2014/Jan 2015 release.
2) Should the testing fall through, it's possible Verizon will not sell the Nexus at all and it won't be promoted for the Verizon carrier.
3) However, the Nexus 6 should still work on Verizon with a SIM card, despite no official release, as the IMEIs/number things will be activated for the network. Just don't expect any support with it.

I'm fine with that, so we shall see.

I agree. My only hangup is that I have a UDP that is month to month, and I was hoping to use the Best Buy upgrade method to get the Nexus 6. Hopefully we will at least get some information on Wednesday (the 12th). Otherwise I might just upgrade with another phone, sell it, and buy the Nexus 6 outright.

Re: Verizon again missing from Nexus 6 page

I called Verizon customer service, and they are sending me a nano sim no charge and free shipping.
Told them I needed one for a (2014) X

Just tried and they stated they needed the device ID in order to send me a sim card. Was using the Moto X route as well. Guess I have to go in store when the phone comes in. Wonder what hassle that will be...

Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

Bad news for VZW folks waiting for the phone. I calculated what happens with the various scenarios, and short version is that buying the phone on the VZW Edge program results in getting it for free.

The phone is $650, but VZW gives you a $25/mo discount on your service for Edge phones on a 10GB or greater plan. That means going that route you get $625 back after 24 months.

Buying the phone from the Store/Moto doesn't earn any service plan discount. You are out the $650 cost of the phone.

And buying the phone on contract will cost $250, but again you don't get anything off the service plan.

So much for my plan to buy before it is available at VZW:mad:

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

You don't need edge to get that discount.
I get it now with no contract

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

Are you sure. I chatted with support today and asked them explicitly that question. They said no, and that even if you pay off your edge phone early you lose the discount.

Seemed odd, but the rep was very clear on this.

I hope you are correct. Because the way things look, it'll be a while before I get the phone.......

Addendum: I just checked with VZW chat again. They were explicit that you could only get the discount on the Edge program.

I have 5 lines on a 30gb plan. Two are out of contract, and I receive a $50.00 credit for them.

You have ask for it, it won't happen automatically.

Get a supervisor.

If that was true wouldn't people be running to the hills to others specially like AT&T where coverage is almost as good and pricing is similar but they straight say if you buy a phone on Next or bring your own device you get that discount. I chose Verizon because 10gb was cheaper with Verizon which is $80 compared to AT&T which is $100.

That's very shady of Verizon making you ask for it imo.

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

Your right about that, they will back dare any credit they owe you, at least the person I delt with did it for me

Do the math I have a great deal going right now with them.

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

I know att does this, so im sure verizon does it too. if you have your own phone, or even have had service without upgrading using a subsidy for at least a yr, they only charge you 15 per line instead of 40.

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

I'm paying $56.00 per line plus tax.
That includes the $130.00 for the data.
That n6 I have orderd from moto better work!

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

Problem is that I'd have to have the phone before I had that conversation.

I'll give it a try with my current phone which just came off of contract. If I get the discount on that device, it'll just be a matter of activating the new one on that line......

Supervisors are the way to go, but only if you know what to ask. Your info helps a lot.......

Re: Financials on buying phone anywhere but VZW

I'm on unlimited plan from before. Can I also get a discount? I have an upgrade pending, so canI use the upgrade and only pay $15 instead of $40?

Re: Verizon again missing from Nexus 6 page

What would be the reason not to activate in store? If for whatever reason Verizon decided not to carry the Nexus 6, if bought else where would it still be able to be used on their network if you have a SIM card from Verizon?

It has already been shown that you can just pop in a Verizon SIM and it works on the network, including making calls (Kellen of Droid Life confirmed this), but also if that chat transcript with eRod put up with someone he knows in VZW is true, he also said it should work with the network.

I can't confirm this, but I seriously doubt it unless you switch to one of their regular or capped data plans on contract. Seems like Verizon will do anything to try to pull you off your UDP, including being dishonest with customers (e.g. 'can't do XYZ b/c you're on unlimited').

Re: Verizon again missing from Nexus 6 page

The reason customer service wanted the device id before they would send you the nano sim card is because the new moto x has already been released, and each Verizon moto x should already be on their id list. I called them today and told them I was going to order a Nexus 6 from Google Play store and I needed a nano sim card so I could start using the new phone as soon as Google shipped it to me. No problem. It is being shipped at once, no charge. Call them back and tell them the truth, you won't have a problem.

The discounts seem to only be on the value type family share plans. And you can't have used a subsidy upgrade. If you subsidize, then you pay more.
