Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

works like a charm.

Did rooting have any ill effects on HD calling or Verizon LTE connectivity? I apologize for being ignorant to all of this but my I've never actually rooted a device before. I got the Nexus from Verizon so I could start getting into it though.

If you don't have a reason to root, then there is no reason to do it. http://www.androidcentral.com/there-no-magic-root

By itself rooting will almost never impact connectivity, etc. It is basically just a word for allowing the user access to write to files that they would normally not have access to.

thanks for the link. I'm a frequent visitor of these sites and slightly more advanced than your average user, but I've never rooted a phone.

my issue isn't rooting, as much as it's the required maintenance (which might be more or less involved than i think). I'm a minimalist, and I like clean and simple, which is why I've always been drawn to Nexus. after reading that article, it's really taken some of the mystery out of it for me and I feel more comfortable with my decision not to root. thx!

I've used it for years too. I haven't used any codes but just run through the setup and when it says it can't be configured for my carrier I ignore it and continue. Its always worked for me that way.
I have to take that back. I noticed it wasn't working and digging around on xda I found that it seems that if you have voLTE provisioned it won't. :'( Hopefully somebody will come up with a work around.

You will have to manually do it. *71 call forwarding number or something.

"I've also heard of those that have gotten the update faster by removing their sim card temporarily. It may make the phone forget what network you're on."

Don't do this if you have a Moto or Google Play device, if you remove the sim you will have to hard reset device if you put a Verizon sim inside, and start over to get sim to work again from very beginning before powering on the device. Learnt the hard way.

I bought my Nexus 6 from Google for use on the Verizon network. When i went to Verizon to activate it, they would not because they had not started delivering it to their customers.

To circumvent that problem, I activated it using a Verizon SIM card (transfered from a Droid Turbo). Does that mean I have to do a hard reset because to Google, I am a Verizon user and to Verizon, I should not need an upgrade to 5.1, since all Verizon N6s have come with 5.1 from the factory? ... should I stop waiting for 5.1?

That link is to enable VoLTE. It won't give you simultaneous voice and data in 3G. In fact if you are on a call in LTE and you drive to a 3G zone the call is dropped.

I just tried this and it didn't work. I couldn't receive calls or make a call through volte. If I tried to make a call with this setting on it would say server error or revert back to the previous method automatically.

I guess that's why it is in the hidden settings menu..

I had to go to my Verizon and select the Volte tab, log off, reboot and voilà.

Simultaneous talk and search can be a huge help for me. Very glad its working.

I'm out in the sticks, pretty rural area. At my sons highschool I barely get 3G but every where else, at home most importantly I'm Volte strong!

I got advanced calling working. It wasn't working before because I didn't add it on my line through my Verizon, but after I did that everything works now.

I was told by Verizon's tech support that the Google Play Nexus 6 could not be guaranteed to work with Verizon services, including VM, VoLTE, and Advanced Calling 1.0. I spent an hour on the phone with *611 yesterday trying to get simultaneous voice/data working (after trying the published methods on this an other forums with no luck).

Perhaps it's time to take my Nexus 6 along with my other 2 lines to AT&T or an MVNO who doesn't have silly technology restrictions.

I just updated my rooted play store n6 on Verizon to 5.1. I had to call Verizon and have them enable HD calling then do the secret menu trick. Seems to be working great now! I can now use my n6 to tether and get calls. No more interrupted Netflix when a call comes in! :)

I noticed last week that My Verizon now recognizes my phone purchased from Google Play as a Nexus 6, but does still see it as a non VZW device. Before it was named Non VZW Device. Now it's named Nexus 6 Non VZW.
