Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: Google Nexus 6 voice and data

I know it does, and that's why I wanted to just ask some employee's last night on what they would say. And both said it won't work. Again, I know their responses to me showed they don't know ^&*# about the Nexus 6, but still I just have this eerie feeling that when I walk in the store with mine next weekend, they are going to give me some problem/hassle with asking for a nano-sim and powering it on Verizon.

But hopefully I'll be wrong! I'm going to try another store this afternoon by my house and see what their responses will be.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste your time. You're exactly right that they don't know *&^% about the Nexus 6 and you have to take any advice they give you with a huge grain of salt. It has been confirmed by numerous sources including Joe the Insider in this thread that it will work out of the box on Verizon. Short of having a working phone in your hand, I'm not sure that anymore confirmation is going to convince you.

I think the problem people have, including myself, is how the other carriers have information on this phone with pre-order etc and we are getting the usual crickets from Verizon. Many people are wanting this phone before or at least by Christmas. I'm not a huge phone enthusiast but I do love the Nexus phones. I jumped on board when Verizon offered the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I remember what a rollercoaster/nightmare it was waiting for that one. Same bs from Verizon for that phone too. This one is no different because Verizon is only interested in selling the phones they are making the most money off of. I'm not an expert with Verizon but it makes sense that they make the most money on their exclusive devices so they are in no hurry to add another phone that may take away sales. I vowed never to wait and anticipate again for a phone yet here I am again waiting and wanting a Nexus 6 on Verizon. I don't want to buy one now from Google or Moto because I have an upgrade coming to me for a discounted price. For me, this is what I am going to do. If this phone isn't released where I can get it before Christmas then I'm going to cancel my account. I'm done with the games and the high prices...

One thing to consider is that if you have purchased the phone from Google or Moto, and you have a 10gb or greater plan, you get $25/ month off your monthly service fee on the line you use. Over 2 years that is a savings of $600. If you are eligible for an upgrade, that means your contract should be up as well, which will allow you to take advantage of the discount (if on contract, you cannot change until it ends).

You get the phone for LESS than if you pay the $199 for the 2 year contract because you can't take advantage of the off-contract savings. The phone therefore will cost you $800.

Re: Google Nexus 6 voice and data

Based on reports, I'd be suprised if the Nexus 6 didn't work with VZW as long as you have an activated VZW sim card.

It may be a little different if you show up with a Nexus 6 and try to activate a line and sim card using just a Nexus 6. You may need to jump through some hoops like activating a new line and sim on a phone that is currently sold by VZW, then switching that sim to the Nexus 6. If you are buying the phone from Google, though, it probably makes sense to get a line set up without a contract a.k.a. bring your own device and get the discount as others have explained.

You might also want to be aware that I've read reports of people who activated a new line, and brought their own device, and had the sales rep (whether accidentally or otherwise) activate the new line with a new 2 year contract. If you bring your own device, you shouldn't be in contract, and now Verizon will actually give you a discount if you qualify. Sales reps get bonus $ for activating a new line with a 2 yr contract so make sure that doesn't happen if you bring your own device.

Might be easiest to buy a Moto X, have them transfer your number over to a new nano SIM, activate the Moto X, and then just put the SIM in the Nexus and return the Moto X. No need to deal with anyone with regards to the Nexus.

There's another thread going around (or was it a few posts earlier in this one?) where people have ordered a nano SIM free from Verizon, no hassle. Perhaps if you look into that.

I've actually been thinking that same thing since last night when I left my local store. 14-day return policy and $35 re-stocking fee. Might be worth it. That way I can at least get my wife and I's numbers ported over to Verizon before I get my Nexus 6 in hand. It may make it a lot easier to just pop out the sim and swap like you said. Hmmm!

Thanks, but it's not just getting the nano sim to be the hassle, but since my wife and I aren't even on Verizon yet (we're switching), I'm fearing that may make it more problematic. If I was already on the Verizon service, then yea, getting a nano sim is easy peasy :)

I think I might try Cgr1971's idea in the post above and get port our numbers over this weekend or so and get the ball rolling so that at least that part is done and have Verizon service.

Ahhhh, I see. I hope it goes smoothly for you guys then. Good luck!

Well, I had some time to kill during lunch today and the other store was across the street, so I went in. I asked the first rep that approached me that if I bought a N6 from Google, will it work out of the box with their network. And he said "Yes"!. LOL.... But of course said "Well, if it supports CDMA and Verizon network then it will work.
So, I'm gonna just take it in the store when I get it and deal with whatever happens :) ^&* it!

Not through regular data and voice together, no. If you're on wifi, then yes.

For what its worth (probably not much) a guy on reddit says a Verizon employee looked up the N6 on the in store computer and it shows a late November to early December release.

FWIW, does that mean it's "in" their system for activation? This is what I'm dreading next week when I get mine in. The same store employee from last night I called back today to ask another question and I told him as well another store said it "should work". He said that I wouldn't chance it. He says he's gotten other unlocked phones that people bring to Verizon and they look up the IMEI # and it says 'can't be found'. Then the customer is mad. He says he hopes it does work and can try it, but can't be 100%.

UGGGG...This is killin me :)

That is now a reason why I'll stick with the note 4 then lol. Was actually going to sell my note 4 and get the nexus 6 but now I won't. I need phone and data at the same time and even though the nexus 6 should eventually get it with volte I can't wait for it.

I actually was talking to a t-mobile rep while going to bestbuy and it was about my returned note 4's and they needed my tacking numbers and couldn't of done it with the nexus 6 because of data or talk with cdma carriers.

If you are already have a verizon phone. You can take out the SIM card and it will work. If your NOT a verizon customer then it will NOT work until verizon releases the phone!!!!

If I buy a NEXUS 6 from ATT or Sprint or T-Mobile can I just use it on VZW

Does anyone know the answer to this questions? Please help.

Provided you have a nano SIM card...
The size of the SIM card is not important. There are scissors and SIM cutters to make them smaller, and adapters to make them bigger. The most you'll have to spend is $5.
