Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

Wow. Band 12 support and Wi-Fi calling (in early 2015)
Where did you see the WI-FI calling info? If it's early 2015 how will TMo deploy it? Could it be compatible with N5 or N4?

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

Do we know if this is the only option for on contract purchase....never really got into the whole, pay monthly for the phone, plans.

"Plus, this hot new smartphone is expected to support Wi-Fi Un-leashed beginning in early 2015 with an over-the-air update– making it the first-ever Nexus device that will support Wi-Fi Calling thanks to enhancements in Android 5.0." (Source)

If this is accurate, and it is specifically the capabilities baked into 5.0 that afford the compatibility, then the question becomes as to whether this is a planned OTA from Google that will allow it, or whether it is an OTA update from T-Mobile (effectively bloatware). If the former, then there is no reason that the Nexus 4 and 5 should not be able to enjoy it; if the latter, then, as the magic 8-ball might say, "ask again later." Also, if the latter, the next question becomes whether that T-Mobile-initiated OTA update will interfere with the device's ability to automatically receive future OTA updates straight from Google, possibly leading to delays in receiving future OS upgrades while T-Mobile goes through whatever steps they need to take to ensure proper transition with their bloatware.

EDIT I spoke with a T-Mobile representative in tech support who indicated that they now have the ability to provision the required updates OTA to phones not originally purchased from them to enable them to do voice over WiFi. Assuming this is correct, then Nexus 6 devices purchased elsewhere should be compatible (at such time as they finish preparing the OTA update). This will still leave at question whether any devices to which T-Mobile does send this OTA will suffer a disadvantage in regards to receipt of Google's direct OTA's.

With T-Mo it will be, they do not do contracts anymore. The other 3 will likely have cheaper contract options. But I'm a big fan of paying for it in installments since you can pay it off early and your bill goes down. Obviously that will depend though on the price you can get for a contract plan, generally the non contract stuff is cheaper. Iirc though Verizon has a $60 contract plan with subsidy so that would be better than what T-Mo has.

Google Nexus 6 Is this also confirmed for preordering on the 17th?

I saw that the Nexus tablet and the Nexus Player are set to be open for preorder on the 17th, this Friday, but does that also apply to this phone, as well? As far as the phone goes, I feel like I've only seen it being available for preorder in "late October".

Anyway, does anyone know roughly what time these devices usually go up on the Play Store? I only ask because I know they tend to sell out almost instantly, and then don't come back up for quite a while.

Re: Is this also confirmed for preordering on the 17th?

I believe preorder for the Nexus 6 will be near October 29, not this Friday like the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player.

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

Will T-Mo be adding bloatware to the N6? Will anything be different about it? Or will LTE Band 12 be on all versions? If I bought it from Google, will it come with Wi-Fi calling?

Re: Is this also confirmed for preordering on the 17th?

everything ive heard says the 29th. I would assume so, since i think that falls more into play with "later this month".

IF the last two Nexus are of any indication, then no. I think the software will be the same as the Playstore version. However, I think the WiFi call app will only work on the unlocked version, not the one sold by AT&T or Sprint, so even if you sim unlocked the AT&T Nexus it might not work with WiFi calling and a T-Mobile sim, this is what I predict anyway. I really don't think AT&T will sell a sim and bootloader unlocked Nexus.

Re: Is this also confirmed for preordering on the 17th?

If it's like the N5, it's not "pre-order" (order before product is avail), just order. Last year, N5 orders started on 10/31/13, when I ordered one. Although order status said "Leaves warehouse by November 5, 2013.", it was shipped the same day! Got it on 11/4/13.

I'm going to Hawaii on Nov 5. It would be awesome to have the N6 for the trip. :)

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

Wi-Fi calling is great news. An OTA does raise the question of timely future updates from Google. Hopefully they can make it an app like TMo visual voice mail.

So anyone happen to know what time these things usually go up for order?

^^ That's the gold question... If it's an update issued by T-Mobile that negates the ability for Google to directly deliver their OTA updates... it takes away a lot of the intrinsic value of a Nexus device.

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

Since we're talking about a Nexus phone, I'm banking (hoping) on the fact that Google won't tolerate any fundamental change to the software.

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

Never had a Nexus before, and I'm considering this one over the Note 4. But I need wifi calling at my house. I wish they'd have it at launch.

IIRC, the N5 happened around 9 or 10 AM PST. It goes something like:

1) browse to Play Store
2) F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5....
3) Order
4) post here that you ordered
5) wait for ship notice/tracking #
6) post here complaining why it's taking so long
7) etc.

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

*$649 is the retail price for the 32GB, the 64GB one bought unlocked will cost $699.

This makes both devices in the $706-761 price range after tax. Sigh.
