Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th
Yes, but that's in the ballpark (and arguably on the lower side) for a product of its nature. The Nexus 6 incorporates a number of improvements above and beyond what has been historically typical for new Nexus devices. Add to that that at its size it is unlikely to capture much market share (even for Google) so the total cost per unit (not just parts and materials, but design, development, and production costs) is proportionately higher yet.
In the past I've bought my Nexus devices directly from the Play Store because, while it was more money upfront, it was less expensive than paying installments over time on a higher unit price. With T-Mobile expected to sell it at the same price as the Play Store, I may end up just going the installment route with them which brings it down to under $30/month over 24 months. And if I should ever decide to pack up my bags and leave T-Mobile's network, the payments to date and lump sum due wouldn't bring my net cost over what the upfront cost would've been from the Play Store. That route, I can happily deal with the price on a phone I would realistically carry the full 2 years.
*$649 is the retail price for the 32GB, the 64GB one bought unlocked will cost $699.
This makes both devices in the $706-761 price range after tax. Sigh.
