Re: Ars Technica: Nexus 6 Review - The “premium” price still comes with compromises

The Verge, Known for being biased for Apple gave it a rave review. Great Battery, SPEEDY, Good camera and only nit picked on things that could be better.

Yeah I was very surprised at their very positive review. Most reviews are pretty positive I thought. I'll find out myself when mine gets here next week.

Re: Anybody else disappointed with screen battery life and camera ?

I think out of all the reviews, the only thing I'm truly concerned about are the low read/write speeds on the flash storage (look at Ars Technica review) which evidently slows down some performance. I'd like to see others test this out to make sure it's not an anomaly.

Screen sounds like it's not the best out there but over all decent. Camera and battery seems like "your mileage may very" type of deal, as they always tend to be on phones.

I look forward to doing a comparison with my Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 on those load speeds.... Some what alarming at how slow that was.... I'll have to just compare the two..

Battery life always confuses me...... I sleep at least 5 - 6 hours a day...... Except in extreme traveling why do people need 2 full days of battery life? from most reviews I've read it seems that the battery can easily last a full day with pretty decent use.. Android Authority said they had 5 hours of screen on time that easily got them through a single day but sadly wouldn't last a second...... I even use to travel for a living with a blackberry that required nightly charging but even though I spent 4 nights a week on the road I still had to take at least naps... PLUG IT UP!!!! Granted I remember before the blackberry my LG Flip phone went from Monday morning to Friday afternoon without needing a charger....

Some of the camera sample shots and video look good and some look bad and some look okay.... I dunno.... like you said "Your Mileage may very" I've never considered my smartphone camera to be for photo gallery or front cover of Time magazine use.... and I have two small children I do take plenty of pictures of in fast moving situations in all sorts of different lighting and places... but when they have a play at school or a big game I take my digital SLR out of the closet and use a real true camera for those things....

Hopefully my Motorola direct order actually does ship today or tomorrow and I find out real soon how great or bad this thing is in my real world use...

For me battery camera and display makes the note 4 better imo

I think it just proves that skins like touch wiz and sense do help battery life. The nexus 6 and note 4 both have a 3220mah battery and similar screen size and the note 4 lasts an hour and then some longer then the nexus 6

I'm contemplating a Note 4 even more now b/c Best Buy is giving them away w/ a contract renewal on Black Friday. The Nexus will cost me $250 at least. Is it worth it when Touchwiz is apparently running flawless on Note 4s?? Decision time is coming soon.....

I've read about 10 reviews now.... Most seem positive but there is just no way to know until you have it and put it through your own paces..... Most reviews seem to say the camera is vastly improved but still needs work.. but I've even seen a couple that says it's fantastic and a few that says it's just as bad as previous Nexus devices... a couple of reviews said battery easily lasted a day and a half and I've seen a couple who say the battery is Meh...

I definitely agree. Best Buy made my decision harder though w/ their Black Friday deal on the Note 4 lol. If Google can't get the phone to me quickly to try out then I'm just going to have to go w/ what is accessible and economically more appealing.

Find battery life , screen quality and brightness and camera much more important then timely buggy updates and stock android. Yes I would like lollipop and yes Verizon takes forever but it should be stable. I would try one at the store first

I don't think you can go wrong with a Note 4.... and if you can do nothing out of pocket and are completely happy with your current carrier and plan.... Even better...

Re: Ars Technica: Nexus 6 Review - The “premium” price still comes with compromises

That was a very thorough review. I still think if you're thinking about buying the Nexus 6 you should try it out for yourself. The slower sequential read speed - as they suggested - compared to the Nexus 5 was surprising. You wouldn't think they would put inferior flash storage in the Nexus 6, so I'm wondering if it's a software issue, although they don't seem to think so. it still won't deter me from getting the device.

Re: The Verge: Nexus 6 Review - Go bigger or go home

Are you saying that because it was a positive review of a product you like?

No, wouldn't have cared if it were negative. A negative review is fine if they say how they came to that conclusion.

For me, camera is the number 1 thing. Updates? Meh, I've said time and time again this thread I have patience hahaha. As long as the phone works and does what it's supposed to, well, then I'll be OK.... as long as the camera is pimp ish :) and the Note 4 seems to trump the Nexus w/ the camera in almost all areas. I still want to see both screens first though. AT&T might think they're getting a potential new customer once this hits the shelves lol definitely want to see both close up.

I agree on all areas of this post. It's a shame b/c that deal REALLY has me leaning towards the Note 4 now but like I stated in my earlier post, I want to see both side by side before the final decision is made (not like any of you really care but hey, when you're bored at work, you type your thoughts on message boards hahaah). Sammy does the Note well. I don't think I've heard too many complain about it since their inception.

For me, it's too bad they don't give you a choice between stock Android and Touchwiz. If the Note 4 ran Lollipop out the box( without rooting), and you could still use the s-pen with the split screen and other features, the Note 4 would be the ultimate Android phone. I think it's possible to do that without the drastic changes Touchwiz does to Android.

has a turbo charger in the box............................. you don't have 15 minutes?? :)

Also why I love the wireless charging feature too.... I use my phone as my alarm clock and it's on my nightstand... Nexus 6 has wireless charging built in as well so I never forget to put it on my night stand and charge at night... Worse case I have a USB car charger and could charge on the way to work and then I have a wireless charger on my desk at work.....

Nothing wrong with being happy with your Note 4.... I've read plenty of reviews on the Note 4 as I considered it as a replacement for my Nexus 5.. but you go 24+ hours on the Note 4 your going to limp into day two...... Yes you can easily swap out a replacement battery but that is just something else to keep up with (With my GS3 I had two back up batteries and after a while I got tired of trying to keep a spare charged or keep up with it. but in theory and in travel it's a good option to have)

I love it turns pink on the lowest brightness setting. It's a built in Twilight!! lol. Great app BTW.

I'm fine with touch wiz but I do put on the Google now launcher and fine with the note 4 . As I said camera, screen quality and brightness , and battery life takes priority over updates and stock for me

You do realize the note 4 has the same charging feature and actually charges faster . Err 30 mins for 50% ? If I'm in a rush to get out my phone plugging in is the least of my worries
