Google Nexus 6P USB-C car chargers?

I just use the short usb a to c cable included in the box with my existing usb car charger

they don't need to move away from lightning to have an effect on accessories. if they get rid of the 3.5 headphone port, as it's been rumored, they'll certainly keep the lightning for audio. but that's only on the phone side. they're already moving towards type C in a big way. the 2015 macbook is type C only.

That doesn't mean that the iPhone will switch to Type C though. As far as using the Lightning connector for audio only, that seems kind of ridiculous. Lightning can support audio, data transfer, and charging, type C can support data transfer and charging. It seems like a waste to have 2 ports that support nearly the same things on one device. If anything they'll probably have a Lightning port and nothing else since it can handle all the functions of the regular charging/data port and eliminate the 3.5mm audio jack.

While I don't doubt that the iPhone sells better than Android, he also could've just been saying that to try and get you into an iPhone. Whenever I've gone in a Verizon store they always push the iPhone, then Galaxy phones, and then other Android devices. They've never even mentioned Windows or BlackBerry devices unless you ask about them. When I went for my first smartphone, I was actually split between a Storm 2 and a Touch Pro 2, and the rep was pushing hard for me to go with a Droid. This was also before they had the iPhone. After that, it was all Apple all the time. When I've mentioned I wasn't interested in Apple, they've looked at me like I had a screw loose. I don't know if they get a better commission due to the higher cost of the device or what. That's why I do my homework before I go in so I know what I want rather than what is in their best interest.

I will say that Apple moving from lightning to type C would get more players into the type C accessories, but I'd be surprised if they drop their own version to go with a standard. They haven't in their past, and I doubt they will in the future.

Yeah could be ... I couldn't help but be amused when some ghoulish looking troll posing as a woman came up to me and asked me if I had an iPhone (this was a customer). I proudly said no and her face immediately looked like she just smelled a fresh pile of dog sh:t. I asked her what phone she had, and she says "android."

Then she tells me how superior iPhones are and how she can't wait to get one. She was their cause her phone wouldn't charge, and I told her to get wireless charging for her next device, just to humor her. The lady behind the counter says "next" and the troll says "Yeah my phone won't charge so I need you to fix it, and I also want wireless charging."

The sales reps response, "Only Samsung phones do wireless ma'am."

LOL ... I think all of us are guilty of forgetting how truly clueless 99% of consumers actually are.

audio only?? that does seem ridiculous. in fact, it seems so friggin ridiculous that I'm wondering how you even came up with it.
the rumor that's been going around is that Apple is ditching the 3.5 headphone jack on the iphone 7, so that the phones can be even thinner.
and if they do that, then they can't move to type C on the phone end, and will have to keep the lightning for the audio (that they'd be losing), like I said.
again, they can certainly go type C on the charging/computer side of the cable.
the 2016 Macbook, Macbook Pro and Macbook Air (if there is one) will most likely come with type C ports. maybe only type C again on the Macbook.
it would make sense that the iphones then would come with type C cables/chargers.
and if they do, then, as señor getbretweir enthusiastically predicted, the usb-c market would explode.

That's what I thought you were talking about as far as audio and the Lightning cable. I thought you were talking about Apple moving to Type C for the iPhone, since that's what they went with in the MB. And since you mentioned them using Lightning for audio, I assumed you meant have both ports on there. Sorry I misunderstood what you meant.

But, if Apple doesn't add type C to the iPhone, then it wouldn't really help non Apple users so far as accessories, because the cables will be for Type C to Lightning. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I've read that the current on a Lightning cable is limited to 1.8A, 9W, and not 3A, 15W like what we're looking for? So while the charger may have a Type C port on it, it won't be giving us the full 3A like the OEM Nexus chargers are. At most it'll probably do 2.4A so it could charge an iPad if need be, but there are already Type A port chargers that will do 2.4A (which incidentally I believe is the current limit of Type A). So there really isn't any benefit having a charger with a Type C port if it's the same amperage as what you get from a Type A charger.

For there to be a real benefit to us, we'd need Apple to replace Lightning with Type C on the iPhone and use the 5V/3A charging standard as well. Otherwise, we can already accomplish the same outcome with existing products.

I bought a QuickCharge car charger for my Moto X 2015, but I returned the phone. Can I still use the charger and get C cable? Or will a QuickCharge technology hurt the Nexus 6P?

The 6P won't trigger the QuickCharge capability of the charger. Get a good, USB-C compliant, cable and you should be fine.

Any charger will work as long as it's 5V output and you're using a Type A-C cable that follows the proper standard. The only issue will be how fast it charges. The lower the amperage, the slower it will charge.

That would be very great if there is a kind of type c car charger which can charge my Nexus 6p and Nexus 6 at the same time.

You'd need a Type A & C dual port charger, like the ones from Vinsic or Monoprice. However, you won't get a full charge for either device with both ports in use since both chargers have a max current of 3A max (total, not per port). It would need to be rated for 5.4A max (3A for the Type C port and 2.4A for the Type A port). So far there isn't anything on the market yet that will do that, so for now you'd have to charge them one at a time.

No, you can charge both at the same time, but just not at the maximum rates.

Which is what I said.

"However, you won't get a full charge for either device with both ports in use since both chargers have a max current of 3A max (total, not per port)."

If you're not worried about charging at the maximum rate, then any dual port charger will work. If it has 2 Type A ports, all you'd need would a Type A to Type C cable, like what's included with the 6p, and a standard Type A to microUSB cable for the Nexus 6.

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but I got this one from Amazon and the phone does indicate rapid charging.

Nice catch. Although I wonder if he tried charging with both ports in use and still got 3A on the attached Type C cable. It sounds like the testing he did was with each port individually connected to his 6p, and using a Type A-C cable on the A port. Which is odd considering I would've thought he would've gotten 2.4A out of the A port with only the 6p connected to a device. But otherwise it looks at least as good as the Vinsic and Monoprice chargers.

tronsmart car charger (the one with the usbc cable molded to the charger) is charging rapidly my nexus 6p. great buy!

This?

USB Type-C Car Charger,Tronsmart 36W 2 Ports Rapid Car Charger with Quick Charge 2.0 Technology.Attached USB Type C Cord for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X (Not Compatible with Google Pixel) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0146FK3G...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4898762

That one is the first one they came out with, that I bought and that Benson tested and found it not in compliance. One of the other guys who tests this stuff mentioned that Tronsmart was coming out with a device that would be compliant with the 5V/3A standard. After their first one, I'll wait until its tested before I take the plunge. This is the newer one I believe since I hadn't seen it before.

Um i don't believe the nexus 6p supports quick charge 3.0 but rather rapid charge so this makes me suspect of this product. Quick charge 3.0 is supposed to be released on the Snapdragon 820 next year.

Right, Benson said it against the rules. Anyway, does 5X & 6P charged @3A with USB-C from 0 - 100% ?
