Google Nexus 6P USB-C car chargers?

Re: USB-C car chargers?

According to Benson leung from Google the tronsmart car charger is not USB-C certified..... That's disappointing. Check out his reviews here

I have checked the test of droidlife. It shows that tronsmart car charger can offer 2511mA. The cable is inseparable and just only can be used in tronsmart type c car charger.

Check the product page it shows:Safety Guarantee: Built with Industry grade materials and premium circuitry, fully protect against over-current, overcharging and overheating for safe and fast charging.

I had bought some tronsmart QC 2.0 chargers and the build quality is very, very good! I want to know the complete review of the charger by Benson leung. Now it is very difficult for me to buy a suitable car charger for my 6p

With the link I provided above, the docs sheet just said it isn't USB-C spec certified. Benson hasn't reviewed it yet. He just added that update to the doc yesterday. Idk why it's so hard to find a USB-C spec complaint charger. Wish Google sold one.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

Had my 6P for a week now, and my experience with charging is like this:

Plugged into computer with supplied A-C cable: "Charging Slowly"
Plugged into wall outlet using 1.0A charger and A-C cable: "Charging"
Plugged into wall outlet with supplied 3A charger and cable" "Charging Rapidly"

I also tried some experiments with other chargers/cables.

Using "Cable Matters® USB 2.0 Type C (USB-C) to Type A (USB-A) Cable in Black 3.3 Feet" with an older 1.3A wall charger, I still got "Charging Rapidly"

Using "iXCC® Dual USB 4.8 Amp (24 Watt) SMART Universal High Capacity [High Power] [Small Size] FAST Car charger" with the same "Cable Matters" A-C cable got me "Charging Rapidly" This is a dual port car charger, each port is 2.4A.

Using "USB Charger, GMYLE 11W USB Dual Ports Type C & A Power Adapter AC Wall Charger " with "USB Type C Cable, TechMatte USB 2.0 Type C to Type C " cable, I got "Charging" only.

The GMYLE charger supports both Type A and Type C ports, but has an intelligent chip to determine what voltage to supply, up to 2.1A per port. Curiously, it did NOT give me "Charging Rapidly," perhaps because the phone was at 85%. When I tried the phone in my car, the 2.4A charger DID show "Charging Rapidly" with the phone at 81%, so that is strange.

The "Cable Matters" cables are on the thin side, but they do not become warm when "Charging Rapidly" so I'm not worried about any fire hazards.

I've got the Cable Matters USB 2.0 Type A to USB Type C cable and am planning to use it with my Motorola Turbo Car Charger tomorrow. Forgot the cable today. I'll post back with what it says when plugged in.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

Just ordered the tronsmart, its shipping today, but from China.... So it says it'll arrive by Dec 2?! Must be back ordered. I still haven't seen a Benson review on it yet, hopefully it is spec compliant.

I got lucky, Amazon offered me another 1 month trial of Prime last week even though they already gave me a free trial once before. That charger qualified for Prime delivery so I got it in 2 days. Try that if you can.

It's already shipped. The tracking says china post. It so far has tracked it from the factory floor in shenzen to wherever the hell it is now, on a donkey on some dirt Rd probably. It will probably arrive in Dec, no biggie.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

Has anyone tried simply using the original wall charger with a car inverter to charge the 6P? I know it isn't the most energy-efficient setup but am just wondering if it works to charge to 6P at maximum speed in a car.

As long as your inverter output voltage is somewhere between 100 and 240V, there's no reason it wouldn't work. And if your inverter output isn't between those two, then it's defective

Re: USB-C car chargers?

As the all powerful and all knowing wise OP of this sticky I'm happy to inform you that the Tronsmart car charger does indeed charge the phone quite fast. I don't know whether the "charging rapidly" indicator on the screen is actually accurate or not because there seems to be some disagreement whether it's actually true but from my experience today it did.

Mind you I drive a RAM Hemi pickup, which is clearly the best road beast ever created so perhaps that was why.

PS: suck it F-150 furd owners, my truck owns your lame 5.0L :)

Just FYI I get the Charging Rapidly indicator using all my 2.1A chargers with USB-A to USB-C cables. So I'm not sure the Charging Rapidly indicator is the best measure of your charging accessories.

Careful, apparently according to Benson leung it's not USB-C compliant. I ordered one anyway, it could do damage to your car or phone by drawing too much current

I think by now it's highly obvious that Charging Rapidly means absolutely in determining whether a charger can charge the 6P at maximum speeds. Any Joe Schmo's 2A charger can get you a Charging Rapidly status, but only a true 3A charger gives you this:

Re: USB-C car chargers?

I am assuming the above image showing a 2940 mA charge is not from a car charger, correct?
