Google Nexus 6P USB-C car chargers?

Re: USB-C car chargers?

FWIW, today I used my Qualcom 2.0 certified Anker car charger along with Cable matters cable ( C to A) and it showed 'charging rapidly'. When I had previously tried charging with the tiny type C to type A cable that came with the device using the same car charger the phone did not register charging rapidly.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

We discussed the Nomad on page one. It's a 1.5A output. Not bad for a small power bank. Not good for a car charger.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

I found this interesting. A Google engineer has been evaluating the different USB-A to USB-C cables on Amazon, apparently some do not meet the specifications and can damage your equipment. There is an article about it here and you can find his reviews for some cables on Amazon. So far, the only cables he has approved are the Belkin and the iOrange-E.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

I plugged a one plus usb c into my aukey car quick charger and phone charged rapidly. I know the one plus cables aren't up to spec so I ordered a couple of the I orange cables from Amazon. My two cents

He has also approved the FRiEQ cables.

Got lucky and bought the iOrange-E cables a couple of weeks before I even got the phone. Bought a couple of them... One for work, one for the car (Just plug it into the cars factory USB-A slot) and a spare....

Re: USB-C car chargers?

5x users, stay away from this car charger. amazon.com/gp/product/B00VH84L5E/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00VH84L5E&linkCode=as2&tag=scvo-20&linkId=U3QZNTJAGSMLHL6U

Just got it yesterday, and it does not charge my phone. It appears to begin charging then stops after a couple seconds. It repeatedly tries to start up but fails over and over. So, the screen never sleeps and it just drains battery.

I'm certain it's not a bad unit. It charges my HTC Desire 816, my wife's LG Volt and an iPhone 5 with no issues. I've tried it in multiple cars. I'm using a OnePlus A-to-C cord that works just fine to charge the 5x with a multi-port Anker wall charger and a Sharkk portable battery. I have an older off-brand car charger that does charge the 5x but at a slow rate, about 10% per 30 minutes.

So, i'm giving this Anker car charger to my wife. She's thrilled, but I'm a little bummed to be stuck with my older unit.

Anker got in touch with me, and after I told them this charger was not working with the 5x, they sent me this one amazon.com/gp/product/B00SSMRB9A/ to test out.

I haven't gone on a drive long enough to really make any grand conclusions yet, but the phone does charge, and the screen indicates rapid charging. So, if you were looking at that other Anker unit, this is the one to get.

I have a USB hub and a lipstick charger both from Anker, and I really recommend the brand, especially after the great service they just provided when things went wrong.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

I use this one on my 6p - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4812237

I have had it on for more than 30 minutes at a time and it charges throughout that time. It also registers as rapid charging on my 6p although the color indicator on the charger shows as blue. The charging is quite fast.

Do you use the supplied a to c cable or one that you bought? I have a bunch of quick chargers around and none of them register as rapid charge when used with the supplied a to c cable.

I seem to be having the same issue. The A-C cable that came in the box with my phone does not appear to fast charge; I've used both a Monoprice A-C and a OnePlus A-C and they do fast charging.

Initially I tried it with the little C to A cable that came with the device. It charged but did not register rapid charging. I then received my cable matters cables I ordered from Amazon and since then it has registered rapid charging and even when I pull it off of the charger it shows a significant increase in battery charging over a short time.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

I have the Tronsmart Type C charger. It's great for any Type C USB phone. Highly recommended.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

Has anyone tried simply using the original wall charger with a car inverter to charge the 6P? I know it isn't the most energy-efficient setup but am just wondering if it works to charge to 6P at maximum speed in a car.

Just ordered the tronsmart, its shipping today, but from China.... So it says it'll arrive by Dec 2?! Must be back ordered. I still haven't seen a Benson review on it yet, hopefully it is spec compliant.

Re: USB-C car chargers?

Hi guys,

Just to let you know:

Galopar USB 3.1 Type C to Standard Type A USB 3.0 Male: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Aukey 4.8A / 24W Dual USB Car Charger Adapter for Apple: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

This combination makes the 6P say it is "Charging Rapidly".

I personally wasn't bothered about quick charging in my car. Infact I wanted to avoid it for less chance of blowing an interior fuse on my car.

I just wanted it to get me a little bit of battery while I drive.

But hey ho, I now have rapid charging in my car
