Google Pixel 5a - A tempting value option or just left over old tech?

I had forgotten that all Pixel phones after the 5 no longer have unlimited photo backup of any kind of quality. So the 5A and the 6 won't have this perk. Not a deal breaker for me as I don't take an excessive amount of photos but still a bummer.

That's definitely a bummer and something I keep on forgetting about, as well!

That's something I have not even considered. However, I take so few photos with my phone easy to back up on computer.

Reference the value proposition for the Pixel 5a, I purchased a Nexus 5X in September 2015 for $429. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $492.21 today (https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm). By that measure, the Pixel 5a at $449 is a great value.

Was also sad to see that feature leave. It's by no means a deal breaker for me but definitely a nice to have.

Luckily we can pick up 1TB external drives these days for reasonable prices and can throw millions of full quality photos on there.

Who knows, depending on how well the devices do, Google could always reinstate the feature as storage becomes cheaper.

If I need to take some photos on a trip, I usually have a Nikon DSLR with some rather large and expensive lenses nearby. Photos around the house and the property are taken with a cell phone, but those are in small numbers.....

In my opinion phone cameras are for pictures, BIG DSLRs are for photos.

And big difference from right out a camera in many instances.

Does it matter? I feel like the technology has gotten there, and Google is advertising IP67. If it's not true, there will be a class action lawsuit. If it's an engineering question, there's probably videos on YouTube?

It's some sort of nano type coating. Same thing used on the speakers and microphone in IP rated phone.

Coming over from an 11 Pro Max (didn't like the CSAM Apple stuff) and preordered a 5a. Should be interesting. I had an OG Moto Droid and then a Galaxy Note 2. It's been a while. I am exited to leave the walled garden.

What color case did you end up getting? Can you post pictures of it up close when you do receive it? I've yet to find a review on these cases to get a better look. If I get this phone I'm thinking of getting the black/green one.

My Pixel 4A works fine but that huge battery on the 5A is tempting. I just love the size of the 4A though! Decisions decisions. Haha

I ordered the "Maybe Moon". I've been a fan of the Panda/Storm Trooper color scheme since the Nexus 6P. If not for the orange accents, I'd probably get the "Black Moss". I'm happy to post pictures. As of now, the case has not shipped. While not comprehensive per se, the Google Pixel 5a case did make Ara Wagoner's list of best 5a cases.

I absolutely love the naming scheme for Google products. "Almost Black, Kinda purple, Maybe Moon, sorta pink".

Just puts a smile on my face everytime I'm looking through colour options for cases or phones. I hope they continue with it.

Congrats, a pixel will be as close to an Android version of apple as you can get (in a good way). I'll be using pixels until they stop making them
