Google Pixel 6/Pro - just over the horizon?

In his video Marques states that in holding the actual phone the camera bar is better looking than in the renders. I hope so. Even if it's not getting a cutting edge evolution Pixel will be worth it considering I look at the front a lot more than the back.

Looking better is very subjective and looks don't overcome a "hump." I actually like the looks of a horizontal camera bar; one reason why I liked the S10 compared to the newer S20 series. However, this hump "looks" like it sticks out a good distance. But no measurements for exactness.
Too bad he didn't measure, if he really actually held a real model.

I have no idea of the exact specs; however, in this article it sounds like it might be big, but not sure if the guy actually knew the spec or was just looking at renders.

"...as the rear camera housing looks, it sure does stick out. A LOT."

As for camera bump on a 4XL
Thickness of phone with screen saver 9.43mm (.371 in)
Thickness of phone at camera hump with screen saver 10.02mm (.394 in)
0.59mm difference (.23 in)
(Measured with a Mitutoyo 500-752-20 digital caliber, 4:30AM, after six cups of coffee...hopefully it is accurate.)

And my 4XL does not wobble on any surface. Other Pixels might be different since the 4XL is my first Pixel, I have no experience with previous models.

However, as most things are in life, it is subjective as to what people like or don't like.

I actually, look forward to driving 30-60 miles to a Verizon store to take a look at one sometime in the future. But out of curiosity, not with an actual intent on purchasing.

The last couple years, Google BF discounts have been minimal. $50 at best. That ship has sailed. Carriers may do better but that usually involves trade-ins at inflated prices and/or monthly bill credits. Either way, the carrier has locked you in for a couple years. No bueno. Still, if your heart is set on one of the 6's, you will get some discount. I got my P5 last year on BF.

I would probably pass on the P6 anyways since the P5 is still great and the battery looks like it will easily last 2-3 years. For me, the P6 pro is way to big and the price will be shocking. I'm thinking at least $999. The smaller P6 will also be too expensive, $899 I'm guessing, and looks to be too tall for me. Not liking this trend. I also don't like that G is downgrading the camera from the Pro. Didn't do that last year with the P4a5G.

They have been $300 off every year since the Pixel 2 during BF week. Specifically at Best Buy, never buy from the carrier store. At Best Buy, it's a straight $300 off at purchase - you then finance the balance. At Verizon, they offer the same amount, but with those BS bill credits over 24.months. I've checked each time I've done this at Best Buy, and my payoff balance days later has always shown the $300 already credited in full.

Not holding my breath for Black Friday, especially up here where the deals are nonexistent.

Samsung had an amazing deal with the N20U in the US but had to go through many hoops and more importantly I had no access to a US address.

I see what you're saying. Black Friday doesn't always give out the best deals.

Yes, there's a bump. But if you want a flagship phone with flagship camera.... you'll have to deal with that.

But specifically, is Google's bump too big? Let's look at it from two perspectives:

Is it too thick (extending out from the body).

6 Pro is reported to be 8.9mm thick without the bump, 11.5mm thick with the bump, a difference of 2.6mm, or just barely over 1/10". Hey, 2.6mm is noticeable - but just how 'bad' is it compared to the competition?

The new iPhone 13 Pro Max is rumored to sport a 3.65mm thick bump, about 45% thicker than the Pixel 6 Pro's bump - OH NO!! But.... that's really a difference of only about 1/10". Meanwhile, the smaller iPhone siblings allegedly get the same 2.51mm thick bump as the Pixel 6 Pro).

Compared to the current Samsung flagship, S21 Ultra, which has a 1.9mm bump, it's about 30% thicker! Oh - but that equates to all of about 1/40" difference. We'll know soon enough how the S22 Ultra stacks up in that department, but it seems likely it'll be at least as thick as last year and, if it follows similar suit to iPhone, possibly considerably thicker.

You don't want a camera bump, there's a lot of great phones with great cameras that don't use them - but that's a tradeoff you'll have to accept if you want the 'flagship' phone camera experience, and it's looking like Google's bump will be considered slender next to at least some of its competition

Is it too wide / why not stick with a square like everyone else?
Well, while the rest of the OEM's are marketing their bumps like a classic hit by Huey Lewis and the News, Google decided to risk not being what the song says is 'hip' by going a different direction - laterally. I respect that some others might find it aesthetically unpleasing, but it's a simple and proven fact that most people prefer symmetry over asymmetry, and Google opted to deliver the former, with an additional benefit being that a phone with as pronounced a camera extrusion as modern flagships are wont to provide are much more stable when lain on their back on a table with a full-width bump, whereas the square mounted to a side can compete for a different world's best claim - best wobbler.

Of course, the vast majority of people will still put their phone in a case, making essentially all of the above irrelevant.

My suggestion to all is to reserve judgement until you can have the opportunity to handle one hands-on - having also done the same with any competitive offerings you are considering.

I got $300 off on my 4xl around Black Friday 2 years ago. Bought it from Best Buy and it did not involve any trade in or bill credits. I'm paying it off over 24 months on Verizon but I'm free to pay the balance and upgrade at any time. I'll be waiting again for BF this year.

Yep! First batches of tech usually have issues also. It's a win/win to wait IMO. Looking forward to it

I'm one of those strange people that does not care one bit about a camera on my phone. My pictures are things in tearing apart in my garage, for re-assembly reference. But I am definitely getting a Pixel 6 (or Pro). I want a new phone, and am intrigued by the design aspect and the new Google made chip.

One thing that's always bothered me with my pixels is the lack of expandable storage. I wish they'd all a micro SD card to be added to the phone.

Because it don't have the same write speed as internal storage, also known to get corrupt and cause freezes and performance issues

In reality though that’s very rare. I only had one sd card fail on me in all my years of using them and then one time I dropped my phone in the ocean, the memory card survived while my phone didn’t. Maybe the performance argument but Sony still makes flagships with sd cards and no reviewer or phone owner has ever complained about those issues.

In all honesty I haven't had any of my Samsung SD cards fail myself, if we really want get into why SD card are going away and not preferred , money is one , they can charge for different storage fees the phone comes with and charge cloud service it's definitely not dependable performance wise as internal for portable yes , it don't have proper permission and allows all apps to access all folders which can be a security concern . A update or improper eject can damage a SD card and it happens frequently .

Don't you have to activate a VZ or AT&T plan to get this? And not the cheapest plans that are available. Not saying that this isn't a good choice for some, but the higher cost of one of these plans can offset the initial savings over time. And you'll have to pay off the balance if you ever want to unlock the phone to use on another carrier. There may also be some fine print to consider.

Both Amazon and Google did offer decent BF ($100-$200) discounts until last year. I scored a P3XL for $150 off 3 years ago. Last year, $50 was the best for the P5.

Bottom line for me, is that I'm going to purchase my phone unlocked, free and clear. Especially since I'm having an issue with Spectrum Mobile on a phone I bought through them that involved discounts and credits.

When I got the $300 off on my 4xl I did not have to activate a new line/plan (just used my existing Verizon account), nor was there any restriction on the type of plan. I have a shared data plan with my family that is less expensive than their Unlimited plans and the Best Buy deal worked fine with it.

The design concept on the Pixel 6 line is very cool, I must say. Futuristic, IMO.

I thought this too. Futuristic, but being a Google phone, laden with drama. Yep, Futuristic, Drama. Then the master plan all came together.

I give you now an exclusive peek at the Pixel 37, same forward thinking design elements (current model just needs teeth):

You appear to be sold, heck you appear to be in love with it. COOL! However, how I judge a phone for my personal use is of no concern of others.

I think it is fugly looking; however, that is subjective, others love it...cool, buy it. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH ANYONE PURCHASING THIS PHONE OR ANY PHONE, BUT I SO FAR, I HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT TO SAY WHAT I WANT ABOUT IT AS SOME DO FOR IT.

But considering when it will be released, the drive to hold one is probably not high on my list of things to do for a phone.

Besides, the looks and feel, it is an untried chip on a very expensive phone.

So, have fun with your knew phone when it comes out and hopefully, it works for you.

As for me, I also have better things to do than discuss a phone I'm most likely never to purchase. So, I'll move on; no use continue a debate.....I HATE THE LOOKS OF THAT PHONE.................PERIOD! LIVE WITH IT!
