Google Pixel 6/Pro - just over the horizon?

So no chargers will be included with the P6/Pro. Are we stuck with using old 18w chargers then? I wonder if a faster option will be available for purchase.

Yip. They need to get away from mediocre specs if they are going to charge flagship money ala the 4XL.

Sticking with old school 18W would suck.

I'm kind of miffed about losing the charger, but I do have so many laying around. I have 2 at home, 2 in the car, 1 @ work. If they end up selling that pixel stand that was supposed to have fans, and fast charges I might pick that up for my night stand.

Apparently Apple and Samsung are already not selling chargers with new phones, so now it's Google's turn to jump on the new trend. I'm OK with it, like Apple and Google both stated most of us have plenty of chargers already laying around & in use. I'm sure the current Pixel 18W chargers will work fine on a Pixel 6.

18w is slow, old tech that is unacceptable for a 2021 flagship.

It would likely be an error to presume that just because they're not giving us a charger in the box they're also not increasing max charging speeds. One indicator that they likely are is the leaked information about a new Pixel Stand with an integrated cooling fan, which would only be necessary for a substantially boosted wireless charging compatibility, and if that turns out to be true then it only makes sense that they'd also offer faster wired charging.

18W has been sufficient to date for me with more modest battery sizes, but with phones pushing into the 5,000mAH range something a bit more robust would certainly be appreciated. But this focus some companies are putting on ultra-fast charging (e.g., 100w+) seems like it's really past the point of diminishing returns in rate of charge and pushing into a rapidly accelerating rate of deterioration of the battery cells from the higher heat generated.

This is the first I've heard of no pixel 6 charger... extremely disappointed with Google on this one. This new trend of offering less for more is sad to say the least. Any battery dependant device should come with a way to charge it in the box. That should be really sweet when an iPhone/Moto/Samsung etc user who doesn't have the right connector type, or right charging standard (or speed) charger opens the box of their new pixel flagship and realizes they can't charge it.....or only slow charge it. Should make for a fun unboxing :-\

So I guess $1000+ phones will now be coming in generic cardboard boxes with nothing else included? Glad I never pay full price ;)

If no charger is included, then give the option to purchase a charger (at a discount) at the same time purchasing the phone.

There was a time at which almost any phone you could buy came with a wall charger, headphones, and a printed user manual. Every item an OEM can omit to include helps them to reduce their net production cost, so it's not really a surprise that they're removing an item that most users would find redundant.

Of course, it would be nice to believe that they're using that reduced cost in determining the product's market cost, but more likely they're just taking the extra $1-2 margin as profit.

Most users don't have a fast charger. I know I don't. If I'm paying top dollar (which we will be for the P6), I expect the full, premium experience to be there right out of the box. If Google offers a separate fast charger at a reasonable cost, then fine. But I can see them charging $50+ for it.

Pixels as far back as the Pixel 2/2XL supported and shipped with 18W USB-C PD chargers. I can't imagine that charging protocol not being supported; if a higher rate is supported, they'll surely offer it as an option, or you can go through a number of different and reputable 3rd party suppliers to fill that need more affordably (Anker, Aukey, RavPower, etc).

As an example, you can get an Anker charger that supports that traditional 18W (9v2A) and most other protocols up to 65W charging to handle most laptops, iPads, or phones in a compact form factor (about 1.5" x 2") for under $35.

You're missing my point. I know that 18w will be supported but no P6 buyer should be OK with just using old 18w chargers that they have laying around. It's like BMW selling a new car and charging extra for A/C or cruise control. The decision makes Google look cheap.

That sucks about the omission of the charger if that’s the case. But if they offer a wireless charger akin to what OnePlus has that would be cool. Also I believe OnePlus and Sony still offer chargers in the box with OnePlus giving customers warp charging at that. People should appreciate them a little more especially Sony who still offers everything a power user could ask for. That was my number 2/3 option for upgrading this year outside of the S21 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro.

I’m still using the iPhone 11 Pro but I’m bout to switch to my Pixel 3a to transition back to Android for when the Pixel 6 Pro arrives. Should be fun.

My dream has been for a Sony Google Pixel. I still kinda miss my Xperia Z2.

A few rumors have circulated stating that there will be a new Pixel Stand launched with the Pixel 6 this Fall.
