Google Possibly Investing in Songza

Allowing for variances in how these things are categorized, etc. 13% and 27% are pretty close to each other big picture
LOL, I think we will have to agree to disagree on that. A difference of tens of million of units is not trivial IMO.

and basically mean that 40% of all devices are "flagships" while 60% are spread between "junk android" and other OS devices.
It depends on what you define as "junk" and what you define as "flagship", which is completely subjective. That's why I kept going back to Apple Insider's opinion...I have to assume that the stuff they do not define as junk is what they would consider decent or better.

IMO, even Apple flagships are junk. They are horribly overpriced for what you get IMO (at least hardware-wise).

That 44% are the "non-junk" phones runnin android. But your 500,000,000 figure includes all iPhones...even the 3G and 3GS. And I think we can agree those now count as "junk.

So how much of that 500,000,000 figure is just the iPhone 4S and above?

Who's moving goalposts now, lol? 3G and 3GS were not junk. I am counting ALL iPhones against ALL Androids since inception.

In 2013 over twice as many people bought non-junk Android phones as bought iPhones.

There were 150,260,000 iPhones sold in 2013. I don't think that there were that many high-end Androids sold, nonetheless double.

So explain to me why Apple is no longer making them if they are not junk. Tell me what, in your opinion, makes them non-junk phones.

Ok.

In 2013, Android phones accounted for 78.4 percent of all smart phone sales to end users worldwide, or 758.7 million units.

Apple sold 500 million units, right?

This data agrees with yours actually has it a little higher 153.4 million. Android at is at 793.6 million, 34% of which would be 269.82 million which is about 175%, not 200%. It's roughly a 7:4 ratio instead of 8:4.

I think we have concluded Android phones world wide outnumber iPhones, there is no debate there.

Good call, this is a pretty subjective argument we're having here

LOL! Why isn't Samsung still making the Galaxy Nexus, or HTC the Droid Incredible, etc.? MS no longer makes Windows XP. It's called progression.

Because better phones have replaced them. Because by current standards they would be junk.

MS no longer makes Windows XP. It's called progression.
So you are saying the 3GS is no longer made because it is junk by todays standards?

On that note. This is boring again. Jeff, don't forget 34%.

The only reason these arguments even start is because Apple people challenge claims that are obvious. And they will not accept it until you spell it out in detail.

I already knew this stuff before even entering the thread. It was just a matter of finding specific articles and sources that leave no semantic wiggle room.

Also...this forum is called "phone wars" after all. So it can't be a huge surprise to anyone that these kind of debates take place here.

And yet, every year, the current iPhone is the world's best-selling smartphone.
The 3GS is not. Which is what we were talking about. The 500,000,000 figure is not all flagship phones either. That was my point.

Even Apple users would consider the 3GS a junk phone.

Let me repeat this: every year, the current iPhone is the world's best-selling smartphone.

And? Still not more than all Android devices. And even then it matters little in the grand scheme of things because who makes the most in mobile? Who gets preferential treatment in developers eyes? That's all Apple.

What do you else do you want?

Once upon a time, iPhones outsold all Android phones too. And it looked as if it would be that way forever.

Lets see how long this lasts.

They set sales records every year, and now are adding some features that people want in the iPhone 6. No single Android phone will outsell it. And if Samesung drops Android for Tizen, Android will probably be cooked. I hope that doesn't happen, as it would be a crappy move on their part.
