Google to address Pixel 2 XL screen issues with several software changes and offer 2 year warranty

I don't think they are making it dimmer everywhere

From the Articles and Google's post:

"and reduce the maximum brightness level by 50 nits (an amount imperceptible to the human eye, Google says). "

Re: Google to extend warranty on Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 2

Just returned my Panda Pixel 2 XL. I wanted to love it and thought I would after coming from the original Pixel XL. Had to settle for the Note8. I already miss the stock Android but this screen is gorgeous. Hopefully the software updates fix everything for those of you that don't or haven't jumped ship!

Glad I opted out of an extended warranty...2 years is great, and I am loving my XL, no signs of any screen problems for a week now. I'm still looking for my microscope so I can identify Alex's burnin.:p

I'm on 8.1 now...So the nav bar dimms right down.

If you can't see the burn in on his phone you're blind.

Re: Google to extend warranty on Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 2

I think just did about the best they could with the hardware they picked, and I mean that positively. I did cancel my order and went with a refurb Pixel XL just to have a Pixel and if I didn't order the IP X last night this news would have swayed me to order the new XL. Oh well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those who utilize the oversaturation option when the software update is pushed will see a battery hit? It's like using always on display or the always listening music option. You're going to take a battery hit because the phone has to work a little harder to light up those oversaturated pixels.

The battery on the XL is such a beast any hit will be insignificant.

I'm just hoping enough people cancelled over the hysterics that mine gets shipped sooner. 2 year warranty is awesome and I have already been running my Pixel XL is sRGB for months now so that is irrelevant.

Google's announcement says they will reduce maximum brightness by 50 nits. I wonder how many people are actually running their screens at maximum brightness. I know I run mine at about 50%.

Maybe just the guys who see this burn in / image retention? :-!

That way I see this burn in / image retention issue, the area of the screen affected (or possible affected) is an area that in my previous phones was occupied by physical buttons. An area where I seldom, if ever, see any content that could be impacted. Even just to check for this problem I have to go way out of my way and perform actions that I don't normally do in the course of my day to day enjoyment of my phone.

So far, EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM that Internet obsessives have gotten themselves into a lather about have been complete non-issues to me. I love this phone, it's the best phone I've ever had. Sure the screen isn't as good as the screen on the Note 8, but so what? No other screen is.

I'm going to use and love this phone and not worry about problems unless an ACTUAL problem arises.

And now I start looking toward the Pixel 3. I'm willing to bet Google will learn from this and have a much better screen next time...

I cancelled my preorder the day my Pixel 2 XL was going to ship. The two year warranty and the assurance that the OLED doesn't have an early burn-in issue have swayed me to strongly consider reordering.

Returned or cancelled your order?

Well I thank the internet for the histrionics that resulted in an extra year of warranty for me. Having the phone for a few days now I never saw any issue with the display. I've always used sRGB mode on my phones as the normal settings always looked rather fake and rather unpleasant to me. I'm incredibly satisfied with my 2 XL and consider it to be a nice upgrade from the first gen Pixel XL.

I can't wait to get my hands on my P2XL as soon as the delivery truck gets here this afternoon

It's definitely good news that Google is extending the warranty, and at least alleviating most of the display concerns. I'm back onboard as far as getting the 2 XL. Now, c'mon Google, get more pandas out there! :)

I'm reassured now about possible screen burn-in issues knowing Google will replace the phone for up to 2 years. Staying with my order late November of Pixel 2 XL. Thanks to Google for responding rapidly on this potential problem.

Everything right here, folks.

Thank you Google. This is the quick assertive type of response I was looking for. I placed my Pixel 2 XL order last night.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Although I have yet to receive my phone I attributed all the fussing over color being that folks have grown accustomed to that filtered lifestyle when it comes to the esthetics of the devices we use. Honestly everything started to look like we were viewing it through a Pixar Lens. This was just Google's way of saying... "Ok, back to reality" which I preferred but to each their own. The whole Burn-in issue did worry me so Google's response and subsequent warranty extension greatly eased my fears. Glad I kept it together and didn't cancel my order...
