Google to address Pixel 2 XL screen issues with several software changes and offer 2 year warranty

I applaud Google for doing the right thing, even if it's a CYA move. But... saying "the slight blue tint is inherent in the display hardware and only visible when you hold the screen at a sharp angle" is flat out denying a huge issue with some of these displays. Hopefully the QC is improving as they go and future shipments won't have this issue.
Also, I see a bunch of people in this thread got perfectly fine XL's. That's awesome. But that doesn't mean all the issues were just hype. :)

walked my wife into a T-Mobile store so she can see a Note 8 and see what everyone is fussing about.. she laughed and said "I never liked Samsungs screens, never looked real.. what's everyone's problem??" hahah I started dying

What does 2 year warranty cover? Like if a button falls off would that be covered or is it only screen issues? They call burn in normal so is burn in covered under 2 yr warranty?

My Note 3 has no burn in despite being left on all night on the home page with weather and time always displayed in the same spot.

I thought the two is the same as the one year. Usually covers parts and labor for defects.
As far as the screen, it would depend on what is acceptable as normal wear and tear. It was also depend if it was a large scale problem in which case they are fairly liberal.

The warranty covers everything the warranty covered before. They just extended it an extra year.

I have been a vocal critic of the LG screen blue tint. However, people need to realize it is not an "issue" or "defect". It is merely a design choice. Don't like it? Weigh the pros and cons and maybe buy something else. However, Google does not have to replace your phone if you have the blue tint. Just my 0.02.

I would agree with you IF the blue tint was uniform across all devices. But it isn't. Not by a lot. Some are only minor, others are very bad.

edit:
Here is just one example of the inconsistency:

Wow. That video makes me think maybe I got a bad display.

I actually wasn't concerned about the blue shift at all before I received my phone. But then once I got the phone, I had to admit to myself that the blue does bother me some. Even the worser one in that video doesn't seem as bad as mine (but I realize the camera might not be picking up what it look like in real life.)

Guess I should seek out a Verizon store to see if they have one I can compare to.

How you liking it so far?
Any regrets leaving the G6 or not going V30?
No regrets. I wanted something different for a change so I went back... To the thing that took me to LG in the first place.

The front facing camera is so much better and LGs has been getting worse and worse.

Overall, I'll adapt to not having a headphone jack, and I'll get used to the changes. But LG still has the type of build and features that interests me more than Samsung. But I wasn't much into the V30 once I found out that they axed the secondary display. It's practically a bigger G6 to me at that point... And the fact that Google will already release software "fixes" makes me happy. After LG being sooooooo slow, I don't miss it.

If the warranty is now 2 yrs, exactly what would happen for a Pixel 2/2XL issue that's near the end of year 2 when only the Pixel 3 is in production?

Excellent question. I think only time will tell. For what it's worth, I got a brand new 5X about a month ago for bootloop issues. So maybe they keep some old "new" units around for warranty replacements?

Don't they have the option to replace with refurbished

If you can't see the burn in on his phone you're blind.

I saw a pic of it it that as magnified would need to be 6" from my eye...I can not see anything that close. My vision starts about 18" to 2" from my face. I never hold my phone 6" from my eye...When you are my age(58) you'll get it...

I have not found a single instance where I see burn in on my phone...Sorry hopefully you will see it on yours. Good Luck!

I'd be ok with that given the refurb replacement is in good working order. If the replacement was near the end of year 2, I'd use it for at most another year and then get a new phone at that point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those who utilize the oversaturation option when the software update is pushed will see a battery hit? It's like using always on display or the always listening music option. You're going to take a battery hit because the phone has to work a little harder to light up those oversaturated pixels.

Changing the color profile will not affect battery life at all. The only thing that would is brightness.

I am very surprised that LG's display is so poor in relation to Samsung's. These two go at it all the time and are never very far off. It would be interesting to find out exactlly why LG can't produce a display quality that equals Samsung.

That's just it.... It's not as poor as it sounds compared to Samsung.
