Gorilla Glass 3 - Do we still need screen protecters?

I like that "glass" type of feeling so I use the Feather Glass screen protector by MIME. It's only .15 mm thick. MIME's screen protectors are slightly cheaper than Spigen's and they have awesome customer service.

I had not used a screen protector but my son told me I should, I used one for about a week, the only time I have ever seen a scratch on my gorilla glass is the scratches on the screen protector.

Took it off and have never had an issue with screen scratches.

I'm still trying to get a screen protector that feels like the gorilla glass. I'm on my 2nd Zagg now. Thank goodness I registered it and get free replacements. First was the HD and it distorted the view on the note 3, but after emailing customer service at Zag and getting a new S4 I was told the Samsung S4 HD won't distort AND won't make the stylus drag. Good news is they are coming out with a 'glass' protector and when it comes out I can send this one back and replace with the new style. That alone will keep me a Zagg customer for life! (if it truly feels life glass) I would feel like I was cheating the company if I kept sending for replacements like this, but they are fully aware. Hopefully, I can give you a good update when the new glass type comes out - and I hope it's soon.

Just started using a screen protector because my wallet case was rubbing my debt card on the exact same spot and creating a rub mark on my note 3. I wouldn't call it a scratch but it is a mark that I can't buff out of the glass. I love the wallet case so sp for me.

I have had my S4 for 6 months now and I don't use a screen protector. I think it depends on what environment you are in. I am in an office most of the time so I am not worried about scratches from dust or dirt. I think this gorilla glass 3 is really tough stuff.

I've always used one just for peace of mind although I like the tempered glass ones but I don't recommend the Spigen nano t it's too thin cracks too easily

I put one of the unbranded on my wife's S4. It has the h9 hardness and its sturdy enough I could take it off and reinstall it when I got it a little crooked first time. $5 on fleabay so I am getting me one.

Hey guys,

My names Oliver and I work for a company called Expert Shield in the UK. Yes, we make screen protectors but don’t worry this isn’t a sales pitch.

I’ve read all the comments in the feed and I can answer a few questions been thrown around.

For those people who are worried that a screen protector will make your devices screen feel different – making it feel ‘clothed’ and not natural – then you are worrying unnecessarily. All good screen protectors (And by good I don’t mean the 10 for ?/$1 ones you find on Ebay) won’t affect the feel of your device. In most cases you won’t actually be able to tell if you have one on or not, that’s the mark of a good protector.

This point is the same for those of you worried about clarity. If you buy a good protector then this won’t be affected. If you’re clarity is then you should consider returning the item.
As for anti-glare, you will get a loss of clarity to some extent because of the material that they are made from. With anti-glare the purpose of them is to reduce glare to enable you to see your screen better. But when there isn’t glare around your screen will have a matte look.

Now, to address the original question in the forum –
The new S4 will come with Gorilla Glass 3, but do we still need screen protecters?

Yes, Gorilla Glass is strong, resistant and looks great, however it isn’t indestructible (As much as most marketing and sales campaigns claim it to be). Adding a screen protector to it will enhance its ability to stay scratch free and smash free.

I have an iPhone 4S, so I know that Gorilla Glass is great, but I did manage to scratch it, drop it and then smash it. Then after getting told it would cost ?150 to replace the screen on my insurance I got a screen protector for my new screen.

Okay, so some screen protector’s might cost ?/$15+ (ours cost around ?6-12 - $10-$15 dependant on the model) which might seem expensive but if your device costs ?/$150 or more then surly adding a bit of extra protection is worth it, no?

Plus it’s a damn sight cheaper than replacing your devices screen or paying out the insurance to do so – which is the real scam.
However, if you are still adamant that the ‘no screen protector crowd’ is the one to be in then that’s fine, it’s your device and money, but when (not if) you drop/damage/scratch/smash your device then you’ll suddenly realise the benefits of a screen protector.

To be honest.. YES! you do need a screen protector. doesn't matter how careful you plan on being with your phone you never know what might happen.. while having my phone in my front pocket it banged into a metal oven and a metal door knob slammed right into it.. accidents happen so better to be secure. The quality of the Zagg looks exactly as if there were no screen protector.

I too am in the no protector crowd. Never have I had one and doubt with the ever improving tech I ever will. No I don't want scratches to impair my view but I find it odd to always impair my view to prevent a scratch that might happen. I call it the new bicycle syndrome, when new you use the kick stand. Six months later you hop off and throw it down.

So, there is clearly some correlation here between those who don't protect their cell phones and those who don't treat their bikes properly!
