Gorilla Glass 4 on the Galaxy S6 = Not that tough.

Huh? What point? He stated "you're saying that buying an expensive phone doesn't warrant a case to protect it?" in regards to my comment that I felt a thin case is sufficient based on plenty of drops with my current phone. Nowhere did I state that I thought going caseless was a good idea. I also stated my my phone looks like a train wreck but it still works fine. Re-read my post if you're confused.

No confusion. When you see "Can you read?" seemed a little hostile. If a thin case works for you, great. Why can't we express opinions without sarcastic hostility?

That doesn't surprise me. Many phones break after a few drops .. some as few as one .. just depends how it lands.

Already knew this, to believe otherwise is kinda foolish! That's why I always buy a case! And remember the all glass iPhone 4-4s... and remember how many of them you saw shattered like this?... Yeah exactly.

It sucks z, but It just depends on how it falls. Glass can break. Period.

No it doesn't. The camera does seem vulnerable.

What I took most from this again is, apparently, the more times you drop one or throw one, and the higher you drop it each time, the more damage the device will sustain.

Thank you, You Tube.

If you have a rugged case whatever the brand, you have the comfort of knowing that it really doesn't matter how many drops. Some of the higher end of rugged case also protection of the camera "wart".

I always just assume that there is a risk with any phone that has glass on the front and/or back. Accidents happen. If you're the kind of person who drops their phone a lot and doesn't want to put a case on the phone then this isn't the phone for you. Either that or just accept the risk. There's no use complaining about it. I'm not implying that people here are upset about it, I just mean in general.

You either get scratch resistant or resistance to cracks. Brittle vs compliant. They could have used polycarbonate but all of the reviewers would be scratching it all up with their keys and stuff.

only fools believe the glass won't ever crack or scratch.

This. Not sure why people expect their phones to be indestructible. If you're worried, get a case. It's kind of like the people that complained about Samsung making plastic phones and then they throw it in a otter box. I'll never understand.

I agree, Otterbox cases are way too bulky! I already got a Sligen case. Just waiting for T-Mobile to wake up and actually ship my 64GB regular S6!

I hate the bulk of Otterbox cases, I always use something with a slim profile like Incipio. Basically it's more scratch than drop protection but I've never had a breakage from dropping so I'll continue to take my chances. Around 3 of those years have been with phones that have had glass front+back too. I'm sure one day I will break a phone but since I'm on a 5+ year streak, if I end up having to replace once out of my own pocket in that length of time, I'm willing to eat it in order to use cases I like.

Same here. I've use the Incipio Feather case on my HTC One M7 which keeps the phone slim and offers some protection from scratches and falls. Luckily, I've only dropped my M7 twice in two years with no damage. But, I think with the glass back/front of the S6 I'll need to be extra careful (or pay for a protection plan).

I believe this is why Apple dumped the glass backs on the iPhones a long time ago.

Better get a case on the S6 the second you take it out of the box.

First of all, that device makes me weep for humanity. At what point will we evolve to not need thumbs? Some days, that's the only thing keeping the dogs from ruling the world. ;-)

Second, looks like this handset REALLY will not tolerate any mishandling and will NEED a case. Sigh. I hate cases.

Is anyone worried about the camera since it sticks out so much? I always keep a thin case on my phone but with a thin case that camera is going to be the first thing that hits when you drop it on it's back. I use the camera a lot so if that get's scratched or broken I'll have to end up using my warranty.

If you think glass won't break because it has Gorilla Glass X, you're a moron.
Glass is fragile and it's gonna break depending on the force put on it. There is no way to control how a phone will land and so the amount of force will vary.
Put on a screen protector and a TPU case and you will be mostly protected.

People make fun of Otterbox but the cutout on the Defender is pretty deep enough that it isn't an issue. Glass no matter how scratch and impact resistant is still going to break if repeated and/OR sufficient force is applied. Aluminum will also ding and scratch easier than other metals. Get a case.

Yeah the huge camera wart is huge but a Tech 21 or UAG Maverick would mitigate it.

Exactly this. I dropped my Note 3 without a case a few times.. even off my lap onto rocks. None of that broke it.. until one day it dropped less than 2 ft off the coffee table onto laminate flooring and cracked from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. It all depends on the point of impact. Glass will break and scratch, no matter how strong it is.
