Gorilla Glass? (Corning Tweeted No)

do you have a gorilla glass phone? because it sounds like you dont...

it does an EXCEPTIONAL job protecting your screen, no screen protector is needed whatsoever.

I really want the galaxy nexus.. but if it comes out without gorilla glass I will simply be forced to buy the razr because durability is one of my main selling points.. and I would rather stick with my facinate then use any phone with a screen protector on it. (its hideous, and just feels awful to use)

I don't know-don't care-if this phone does or not. I know I have a screen protector on it and I doubt anybody can tell.

So Gorilla Glass is just like the sapphire crystal on a top end watch.

Yup. And just like a sapphire crystal it scratches. It's also not as scratch resistant. With my two watches.with sapphire crystals you need really bright light and the correct angle to barely make out scratches. Gorilla glass shows scratches much easier.

I have an OG Droid, a D2G, DX, and a TBolt all with gorilla glass. All have scratched glass. The D2G I bought used in Craig's List. Man that one looks horrible with the scratches.

Bottom line is that its better than regular glass but will still scratch if your not careful.

Re: Gorilla Glass?

I have a Verizon Fascinate (SGS1) which has Gorilla Glass, and it spends a lot of time in my pocket, and has no discernible scratches. I have had it more than a year. I would hate to have to use a screen protector.

Re: Gorilla Glass?

I just took some quick shots of my fascinate this morning, just showing how well the screen (gorilla glass) has held up.. and I took some shots of the phone in general to show this thing has been used and utterly abused.

Plus the fact I've never had to deal with the annoyance of a screen protector, or its ugliness.. I'm pretty much sold on only buying phones with gorilla glass.. if not for the scratch protection for the fact this screen should of been shattered 10 times by now considering all the drops its endured.

ugh.. looks like its officially not on the Galaxy Nexus.. this throws a monkey wrench into my plans.

Re: Gorilla Glass?

My Samsung Fascinate has never had a screen protector. I have dropped it, kept it in the same pocket as my keys, etc...Not a single scratch, dent, or chip.

My Xoom has Gorilla Glass as well. Just yesterday, I accidentally dropped the metal-covered corner of a drawer on it. Not a single scratch, dent, or chip.

Gorilla Glass is a top-notch product.

My last 2 phones and my tablet have it. My 2 phones are scratchless. Tablet has a screen protector, which I hate! Had I known it was gorilla glass from the get go, I wouldn't have wasted the money on it.

Re: Gorilla Glass?

After about 6 months I took the screen protector off of my Droid X (with Gorilla Glass) and it's still scratch free. I know it could get a scratch, but I tend to be pretty careful with my phones.

That said, I wonder if Gorilla Glass can be fabricated for curved screens yet? Almost all of Samsung's high end handsets use Gorilla Glass, but neither the Nexus S nor the Galaxy Nexus do. I'd guess it's the curve that necessitates the difference.

Speaking of which, who has a Nexus S? How has the screen held up?

FFS. 1.2 vs 1.5, an aging GPU? Meh. No Gorilla Glass? Different story. It's saved my OG Droid several times.

Re: Gorilla Glass?

No Gorilla glass on Galaxy Nexus. Confirmed by Corning and Samsung. Samsung stated that the Galaxy Nexus will have "another type of fortified glass", just not the brand name. I will hold judgment until I see a test. I am still getting this device, but I may need to purchase the screen protector and leave it on till someone proves that I will be OK without one. I am not going to test it with mine.

i have had 2 phones with gorilla glass and both scratched with ease got refurbs and learned my lesson gorilla glass is not everything and you need a screen protector.

I really have to disagree. What did you do to scratch them? I use my phones without any cover/case, and if you treat a gorilla glass phone even moderately carefully, they aren't going to scratch.

You went through 2 phones with gorilla glass.. and now have one with a screen protector on it?

Where do you work? a diamond mine?

p.s. - please list what phones this happen with... and how?

I showed the pics of my fascinate.. thats from a years use.. the phone is beat to pieces.. the screen is flawless.\

You cant deny Gorilla Glass is great.. not sure why anyone is.. What we can hope for is some info/tests on this new fortified glass.. for all we know it could be better then Gorilla Glass.. but it is kinda sad to see everyone start acting as if Gorilla Glass or a comparible competitor doesnt matter.

The same can be said of devices without gorilla glass. I've owned my fair share of devices sans screen protector that didn't have gorilla glass, and never scratched them. But then too, I don't stick my phone in my jeans pockets with keys and coins.

ANYTHING is better that the iPhone 4 screen. Anything.

I am happy no matter what they use as long it's not the glass that Apple uses. My iPhone 4 shattered when I first looked at it. Also, generic brands are just as good, if not better. I always prefer Safeway Select Cola to any other....

Had my droid x for 11 months with no scratches, no protector. Keep it mostly in the back pocket. I don't want a phone that needs a screen protector. They look terrible and after paying that much for a phone I don't want added expense if there is a more robust phone out there. Was going to get a nexus, but may get a Razr unless someone can vouch for the nexus glass.

There's a joke about ugliness just waiting to pounce here... ;)

By the way. Know what is on the Gorilla Glass list?

This.
