Gorilla Glass Epic Fail

Isn't GG supposed to be extraordinarily scratchproof though? My Epic has two short (~4mm) but deep scratches that it picked up just from being in my pocket. After going through two iPhones that now look like Wolverine has been texting on them, I treat this Epic with kid gloves and ALWAYS carry it in my left pocket, all by itself. Keys and other poky scratchy things go in my right pocket. The Epic seems even more prone to scratches than the iPhones though, so I don't believe the Gorilla Glass assertion.

Fair point, but the Epic seems to be neither. I've seen videos on YouTube showing Gorilla Glass standing up to far worse treatment than my phone has ever been through, which convinces me that the Epic does not have it.

I did the exact same thing to my epic and it made it out almost perfectly fine. There is a very small chip on the outer edge of the glass on the top left of the screen.

I took off my screen protector when I found I can get a replacement screen for $35. I now put it into the same pocket as my change and keys. It has been a month since the removal of the screen protector and my screen hasn't a single scratch on it.

I'm thinking about doing the same. $35 isn't bad at all. And I think I'll enjoy the feel of the glass even though this PhantomSkinz is pretty smooth.

Thats why I got my Epic from Best Buy. There Warranty has No Deductable.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too careless with ur phone just because you have the BB protection plan. I have an Epic that fell only off my desk on its face like buttered bread, n that gorilla glass shattered like I smashed a rock on it. I took it to BB, since I have that repair/replace plan they told me is so great.

Well, after telling me they had to send it out for inspection before deciding whether to fix it or not, they tried to offer me a sanyo basic flip phone as a loaner.... for a $150 deposit! I said hell no, I would activate my old Hero then. So, naturally, I asked how long it would take n the guy tells me 2-3 weeks! Whaaat?? I told the guy that when I was sold this plan that I would get a new phone right then for damage like this, I was told that's not accurate.

So, fast forward 30 DAYS and several phone calls with no explanation as to why my Epic was not repaired or replaced, I had to have them file anan escalation for my case. After another call getting the runaround, I went to the store right at closing, had a few choice words with the Geek Squad mgr n said I wasn't leaving without a new phone!

So after 32 days, countless phone calls n clueless reps, I got my phone replaced for no deductible.... was it worth it? U be the judge. I'm back in the sprint tep now!

You're right - they list the fascinate, captivate, even the continuum, but not the Epic. Very odd.

I've noticed that the Epic frequently gets left out of lists when pertaining to the Galaxy family. I've hypothesized this may be because it's the only galaxy with a unique form factor, a specialized version of TW and was released last.

the fascinate was released after the epic, also the continuum has a very unique form factor in the sense of two screens. we also dont use kies

Friend of mine just cracked the screen on his Epic. Sprint store is charging him $100 to fix it, same day. Who has actually had it done for $35?

I can't be sure but that sounds like they are charging the deductible fee for an insurance replacement- maybe the crack was too big. Does your friend have insurance?

There seems to be YMMV type thing on the $35 repair of a screen and your friend may need to go another store.

They are repairing in the store, but they did charge him the $100 deductible from his insurance he said. Can't he do the $35 thing even though he has insurance?
