GS8 & GS8+ Midnight Black Otterbox Owners Unite

I think that the dual curved edges makes the GS8 appear thinner along each vertical side so that while quite slim, it makes a good grip possible & giving the allusion of less bulk. It is couple of mm thinner that GS7 Defender at chin and forehead.

Well I just ordered a black Defender from Amazon. Can't wait to compare it to my awesome Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro.

The amount of money I've spent on cases and screen protectors for this thing....

Personally, I wouldn't waste money on tempered glass or screen protectors for this phone. The curves make it nearly impossible to make a decent tempered glass unlike flat screen devices.

If you plan on keeping it in your pocket like myself with nothing else in your pocket, I don't see the need for a screen protector really. My S7 edge has no scratches on the screen and the same for my S8 Plus so far.

I see them as a waste of money when people buy that 40 dollar ZAGG stuff at Best Buy. Even Flossy says you really don't need them on these phones.

Lol! For my S6 Edge+ I bought five protectors. Numbers 4 & 5 went on my wife's and mine acceptably, while I destroyed 1, 2 & 3 trying to get a steady hand!

Well first impressions of the Defender are that is not nearly as big and bulky as I expected. It's also nice and grippy feeling in the hand.

But compared to the Unicorn Beetle Supcase Pro it doesn't feel quite as nice to me. It's slightly wider, probably giving somewhat better protection, but I prefer the hand feel of the Supcase a bit better.

The Defender also creaks on the left side, as if it's not fitted quite right. I double checked and made sure it's fully snapped into place so I'm unsure what the problem is there.

The bottom of the case over the charging port and headphone jack bulges weirdly, it's not straight across for some reason. It may be that it's made this way, but I have to say it looks like a defect to me.

Also I noticed that the Defender is pushing up my Yootech film screen protector on one side whereas the Supcase does not.

All in all I'm sure it is great protection equal to or slightly better than the Unicorn Beetle Supcase Pro, but I really have to give it to Supcase for fit, finish and hand feel this time around.

I'll keep both cases and take turns with them.

No creeky sounds. I did notice a slight bulge at the charging port and headphone jack when both are being used.

Haven't used charger yet in the Defender, the bulge is just there as if that's the way the case is made. Just looks weird to me.

I think I actually do like how grippy all over the Defender feels. Definitely don't feel like I'll drop it. Although it is slightly wider and therefore less easy to one hand than some other cases IMO.

I'm not knocking the Defender, it's a great feeling case, just wanted to do a quick comparison to my current favorite, the Supcase.

All Defenders I've had eventually creak likely due to the plastic shell tabs wearing/expanding a bit. Nothing can really be done about that. It has to have some give in it.

Did not know that, I've never owned a Defender before. Thx for the info.

The Supcase also has a plastic frame the main case attached to, it's not creaking. Feels solid and comfortable.

But they don't have tabs that snap together like the Defender. Totally different design.

Black defender here. Just ordered the marathon color (grey and blue)

Anyone have a problem with the bottom part of the inner case not sealing and the silicone outer shell not sealing against the plastic inner piece?

I'm not using a screen protector btw, just the wipe on screen defender stuff.

I also checked out the Defender and Armor Box, but finally decided on the Supcase Unicorn Beetle mostly because of Flossy Carter's review (and price). So we'll see, should be here tomorrow.
That's a good case. I had one for my S7 edge and note 7.

Defender for s8 plus feels better though. I like the silicone outer layer, whereas the supcase is mostly all plastic.

I'm not sure if the supcase has port covers or not, if it does they don't work as well as the defender. I deal with dust at work and my ports are always full of it, but haven't so far with the defender.

First OtterBox I've bought in years.

Get some liquid defender and you're good to go. This is my fourth phone, using the same two bottles I been using and haven't had a problem or scratch.

It's 20 bucks on amazon, so 5 bucks per phone. Lasts a year before needing to be reapplied.

I also use the holster a lot so my screen isn't rubbing against anything.

I had my first S7 edge (went back for warranty issue) in my pocket with nothing in it and the polyester in my shorts scratched the screen.

No problems when I applied the liquid stuff to my second one.

Mine is the same way. It bulges at the bottom. If the one I get tomorrow is the same way, I won't worry about it, but if it's not, then I'll return this one to Verizon.

The defender doesn't work well with most screen protectors. Especially if they go under the lip. It's a tight fitting case.

That Liquid Defender didn't have the best or very many reviews on Amazon. I was all about to buy some, but there's one review on there that shows it damaged some sunglasses.

Yeah that's bc the girl did it wrong and honestly shouldn't have used it on sunglasses.

Most of those negative reviews are people not following instructions.

And you mentioned using it on numerous phones. Ok I may pick some up. The regular films and glass ones are just not working.
