[GUIDE][8/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Must say my phone booted much faster with the bootloader installed. Maybe it was a placebo effect but that's how it appeared. 2.4 seems less laggy to, not that the other versions were...
So by my calculations 2.5 should be out by 4? :-)

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Hypothetically... If I install the new bootloader, then say I want to go back to ICS, could I just run the factory image from Google to restore the system back including bootloader?

The only reason why i'm debating on installing this bootloader is that it might not be optimized for CDMA and could cause issues... unless i'm wrong.

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

The boot loader is not required. U can update without it.

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

It appears so, but we won't know for sure until source drops.

Xanth - wipe cache, dalvik, format system. That's it. :-)

I did cache and dalvik, only thing I see for system is wipe and reformat (restore not sure) <-- did not do should I wipe all 3 again and reflash? phone is working.

I hate the small wording it makes it hard sometime to read and the scrolling with the vol control is a pain in the butt.

The boot loader is very risky to flash. But yes the Google image Will do it. Also the bootloader is not required to do the update

Yeah, I figured that I can just leave it alone if all it does is optimize the boot time for the time being. It's not that I am not risky or anything, but rather is it necessary. If it is necessary, then that's a different story.

Fwiw I'm back on the ICS one although I've seen more than enough differences to not nearly be as terrified with the JB one.

Also, 1689 with the higher gpu trinity is the bee's knees.

...am I the only person having extremely short boot times without the 'optimized' bootloader? :) Seriously, though.. from power button press to responsive lockscreen I just timed 31.5 seconds. That beats anything I had with ICS.

There's a five second difference or so from my unscientific observation.

Still, fast regardless.

Good to hear. I'm getting very impatient for source to drop. :D Can't wait to see what comes out of the first month or so of development.

dmmarck:

Question, what does the I/O Scheduler mean in the Trinity Toolkit? I'm trying to look that up and have no clue what it is.

Thanks.

I went back to the JB bootloader. Had an sod in best buy and it took 12 minutes to boot.

Immediately cleared the caches and installed the JB bootloader. Placebo or not, another long boot will give me a stroke.

Seiga - check this thread out. I use either deadline or noop.

Hrm... should I cave in and install the JB bootloader... or not.. that is the question.... my curious side says yes... my conservative side says, "Do you want to chance at effing it up?"

Up to you, this is a risktaker's game at this point lol..

Also, is RW down?

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

No Belly updates I see...oh well. Also went back to the 384 GPU trinity. Don't know what caused my phone to SOD, but I'd like to go as safe as possible and then ramp it up again :).

Meh I vote to hold off, fwiw. I'm happy not taking chances with bootloaders, my phone boots up pretty darn quick I don't see anything to gain from swapping it out. But it sounds like nobody's having issues, at least yet, with the JB one so if you want to give it a shot, its easy enough to switch back anyways :)

Was for a while, just finally loaded up for me lol.

My phone was heating up with the higher gpu. So I reverted to the 384 as well.

How would I go about making a backup of my current bootloader... just do a nandroid backup?

Backups don't touch the bootloader. To switch back you just find a flashable zip of the 4.0.4 one (dmmarck has one) or you can take this and fastboot it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47300967/bootloader-toro-primela03.img

Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-toro-primela03.img
fastboot reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot
:)
