Ok, another snag. I got z4 back on and the very next command:
chmod 0755 /data/local/flash_image
doesnt work. it tells me unable to chmod /data/local/flash_image: No such file or directory
Do I need to completely start over?
Yeah in the xda link it does everything he does to back up the RSA keys but step 9So you followed the xda link to do the key backup and then just skipped those steps on this tutorial?
so i'm a little confused. since two (or was it three) of you had the same issue, what exactly did you do differently from the guide to end up with a rooted phone?
is it possible that the two (or maybe it was three) people that posted that sd card problem, are having that problem because they have a different hardware version? (ie, the guide works for version 1-3, but not 4?...)
trying to avoid getting half way into the root process and then going back. if someone can confirm that the guide posted here work for them on 3.70, hardware version 3, hboot 2.02 that would be great.
thanks all
mount /sdcard
In may specific case I first copy and pasted this - mkdir /sdcard/nandroid/RSA-PR-BACKUP - like the instructions stated. The XDA thread suggested, if you were having problems with this part, splitting it into 2 lines instead of one. First I pasted - mkdir /sdcard/nandroid (hit enter) - then - mkdir /sdcard/nandroid/RSA-PR-BACKUP (hit enter) - and it worked for me. When I tried to do it altogether I would get a file or directory not found error.
I just spent 40 minutes getting back to where I left off yesterday: stuck at the red triangle.
The three commands that follow simply fail.
Did you flash the first PC36IMG.zip file?
Question: there's no screen shots of the final steps in this process. After the red triangle...the next three commands...are those entered from the directory where the root files are? (in the guide's example c:\evoroot) Or from a # prompt?
yup. Everything goes exactly as the guide says until I put the phone in recovery; then I get stuck on the HTC screen, so I have to do the battery pull. Then I follow the instructions, try to put the phone in recovery again, it goes to the red triangle, and the next commands don't work.
Yes, the commands get entered at the C:\ prompt in evoroot, not at the # prompt.
Ok; just making sure. I'm giving up. Might try this again when I have a whole lot of time. I think I'm pressing my luck, so I'll just return to 3.26 before I do permanent damage.
adb devices
You're on 3.26 software? You root really easily with that...
before you give up, if you type:
what does it say? Just right in the command window
