[Guide] Tools and Information for Mac OS X Users - Updated 04/07

1) Yes, if you update you can mount the Fascinate on you Mac as mass storage

2) You do not need Windows or Odin if you follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread- someone else will have to answer about backing it up; after I finished the process (which took me several tries), everything was pretty much un-touched without the Verizon bloatware.

3) The battery life seems about the same for me, which means it lasts all day and I charge it at night just like before- someone else may have better stats

I was also squeamish and not too sure I wanted to or was smart enough to do this, but I'm glad I did since I no longer have to wait for Verizon/Samsung to do what others on here are able to do in their spare time! Amazing. And no PC involved :)

This is good to hear, thanks for sharing. You said it took several tries ? before everything was working, did your phone become unusable at any point?

Also, once the update was finished, was all your information (personal data, apps, etc.) still in the phone, or did you have to re-install everything?

No, my phone was always usable. Nothing was ever "damaged"- mostly things didn't take the first time and I had to re-try. I don't know if that is normal, but that was my case.

When I was finished everything was still there that I had personally put on the phone like my contacts and apps, which I was a little surprised by. I was afraid I would lose all of that too but it was all there!

I mean, I was pretty worried at first as well and tried to read and understand as much as I could before I jumped in but I was still nervous because I only have the one phone and need it for my work. I would say Braydon has done a great job and everything seems perfectly safe from my experience even though at times I thought I had totally screwed it all up.

Okay, back with more questions – I tried running the 1-click PushtoSDcard program, but it can't seem to connect with my phone.

I think this has to do with the fact that, since the last Verizon update, I can't get my computer to recognize the Fascinate at all – connecting the USB cord will charge it, and occasionally it will show up as a modem in the network interfaces, but I can't actually mount it.

Okay, regarding the Push to SD Card program:

I tried my work mac (running 10.5 instead of 10.6), which seems to at least recognize when my phone is plugged in. I ran the app, and now I'm not sure if it worked or not. I dragged that ADB file from the 'files' folder into the terminal, hit enter, and this is what happened.

designmac:Files egardner$ /Users/egardner/1-click-pushtosd-v1.1/Files/pushtosd.sh
Please drag and drop file into terminal, then press enter. => /Users/egardner/1-click-pushtosd-v1.1/Files/adb
/Users/egardner/1-click-pushtosd-v1.1/Files/adb
Copying file...
/Users/egardner/1-click-pushtosd-v1.1/Files/pushtosd.sh: line 19: [: too many arguments

failed to copy '/Users/egardner/1-click-pushtosd-v1.1/Files/adb' to '/sdcard//adb': Permission denied
Push was successful. You can now close terminal.
designmac:Files egardner$

It says both 'failed to copy...' and 'push was successful.' Thoughts?

Wait, nevermind, I think I just got it working – I just dragged in both files at once, instead of dragging the whole "files" folder. Simple!

Try copying a different file as adb is the Android Debug Bridge that the script uses to push files to the phone....

Okay, next step:

I attempted to run the 1-click root program, but I don't think that worked either. This was the response in Terminal:

designmac:Files egardner$ /Users/egardner/1-click-root/Files/root.sh

Thoughts on what's going on here?

Not the beta. I guess I'll try that one to see if it's any different. I'm using the one from the beginning of this thread.

Thanks a lot – I appreciate all the responses.

Okay, I *think* it worked.

Terminal says it successfully installed superuser.apk, and seems to have stopped doing anything. But it didn't give back the command prompt – the window still says adb at the top. Is this normal?
