Have questions about the Aria? Ask 'em here

Hi,
I just got an Aria. It is from AT&T, and has froyo on it. I want to be able to install 3rd party apps (I am able to sideload them) directly on the phone. Is rooting the only answer?

You're don't need to root however since they haven't enabledsideloading for the aria yet you cause the sideload wonder machine or connect to ADB andenableit yourself that way.

I have been using the sideload wonder machine, and it is awesome! What else am I missing on an un-rooted phone?

They've actually recently enabled sideloading on the Aria. You can either wait for the update to be pushed to your phone, or call up AT&T and try to have them push it manually.

I read in here that they took the side-loading capabilty back in an update after that one...

That was an update to HTC Sync a long time ago. This is an update to the phone they started about a month ago. The Captivate and Inspire are getting the same update.

Hello All,
Other than getting rid of the AT&T stuff that is already on the ARIA, if I am able to sideload apps, what else am I missing if I do not root my phone?
Thanks!

Ustomroms roms and kernels. Free tethering. Also some apps require root.

I wanted to go back to CM6 due to storage space limitations in other builds, but I cannot get the Google apps to allow me to set up my account. Is this perhaps because the version of Gapps still shows as "Market" instead of "Play Store"? If so, what specific version of Gapps do I need to install?
