I am not sure if this is the right thread to post this, as there seem to be many regarding the Black Screen Of Death on the Droid Bionic. This seemed as good as any though.
I got my Bionic three days ago. It worked good for the first day. When I got to work the second day I set it down on my toolbox top. This is a metal box covered by a rubber pad. The phone went black immediately and I had to pull the battery to restart it. It immediately went black again when I set it down. It did this multiple time through the day. After I left work I had no more problems.
Today when I got to work I set it down on my toolbox and it went black again. The connection finally clicked with me. I put it on a cardboard box on top of my toolbox and had no more problems till I set it directly on the toolbox again.
As far as I can tell it has something to do with being put down on a metal surface. It does not always happen right away, sometimes it takes 15 or 20 minutes after setting it down. I was able to get it to do it enough times, and never on any other surface, that I am sure it is more than a coincidence.
My Bionic is running version 5.9.902. I tried turning in pocket detection off, and putting it in performance battery mode with no change.
I hope this helps someone. I will just avoid putting it down on metal surfaces.
