Help understanding this phone

ok got both the rom and the patch downloaded on my laptop...now i flash into clockwork..flash the rom containing the kernel..and while still in clockwork flash the patch at the same time or let the phone boot then go back into clockwork and flash the patch?

First make sure you transfer the ROM and patch from your laptop to the sd card on your phone. Then boot to clockwork. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash the ROM, boot up the phone and let the ROM fully load. Boot back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache but not data, flash the patch, reboot phone, let it fully load. Reboot back to recovery to flash any of the other patches or mods you want to flash. All those are pretty safe to flash in the same cwm session.

Thanks a ton Sharky..if there was a thanks a ton button i would have hit it a few times!! They need a bro hug button to lol..im going to flash the rom and patch n a lil while..then ima figure out how to theme it and remove theme for future reference

ok shark..im in the middle of wipeing data/factory reset..which is taking like forever....but i was looking and the only wipe cache i have is wipe cache partition...just wipe that? should my phoone take this long to freaking wipe data and factory reset? been like 5 minutes

hit me up asap cause its just sitting here after i hit factory reset in clockwork and it says:
--wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /datadata...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Fprmatting /sdcard/.android_secure...

The more stuff you have on your phone, the longer it will take. But it shouldn't take 5 minutes. See if the back button will work, if not hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see the samsung logo flash for the second time and let go. You should be back at the main CWM menu page. The other cache you have to wipe is the dalvik cache. Look down toward the bottom of the main menu page, you will see advanced. Wipe dalvik cache is in the advanced sub menu.

ok..i rebooted the phone and i sent into settings and factory reset the phone through there will that work?

WTF it didnt factory reset

If you've already flashed Comm ROM don't do the factory data reset from inside the settings menu. The wipe data/factory reset in CWM wipes USER data so you can flash a custom ROM from a clean slate. I forgot that the CWM you used may not display the message that data got wiped or that it finished, but it did. Start over from that point, wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache, flash Comm ROM, reboot phone, let the ROM fully load, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, flash 2.1 patch.

I havent flashed anything yet because i cant get the phone to factory reset..in clockwork or in the settings and trying it that way..when i go through settings the phone just reboots and when i try to factory reset through cwm it says this and just sits there saying this and doing nothing:
--wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /datadata...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...

Trust me when I'm telling you that wiping data works. I remember now this being an issue with this cwm. You see it hang up at this point, but it does work. It does completely do what it is supposed to do, it just gets hung up at this point in displaying the message. Before trying again, you can also scroll to mounts and storage, hit the power button and make sure it says unmount in front of all of the above (data, cache, datadata, sd card) That may fix the stuck message. Scroll down to go back if you can, hit the power button, then wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and flash the ROM.

the clockwork version i have says CWM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v3.2.0.0

That is the correct version number.

I finally got it..what I did was flash that other clockwork u sent me the red one and then she wiped just fine and installed the rom beautifully...but dang battery is a lil crappy on this rom..I posted another thread in the roms n hacks and one other guy said his battery was horrible with this rom..is there another voodoo kernel that'll help battery..this rom is smooth n sleek but im watching the % drop like my gas hand in my mustang lol..

Give the kernel about 3 days or so to settle. I always had terrible battery drain right after flashing a new kernel. If it's still bad after about 3 or 4 full discharge and charge cycles, you can try another kernel. I always had great success with ComaVolt. You can find all the kernel options in JaeKar99's great Themes, ROMs, Kernels, Boot Animations thread here:

Good to know you got things up and running.

Yes, switching kernels is easy. Download new kernel to sd card, boot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, flash new kernel, reboot.

so i wouldnt have to disable the lagfix in voodoo or anything to flash it...just making sure dont wanna funk up the phone..already thought i did a couple times and was doubting my abilities to follow instructions lol
