I rooted my girlfriends evo and left the stock Rom and told her to never do an OTA software update while rooted, well first chance she got she goes and does just that. Now her phone if very laggy and has many bugs. How do I fix this for her. I tries installing a different rom but that didn't work. Any suggestions anyone?

Obviously taking an ota while rooted is a bad thing. Time for a factory reset and guess what? No root for 2.3

That depends... OP what method did you use to root??? If you used Unrevoked Forever you "should" still have s-off.

When you boot into hboot look at the top lefthand side of the screen, what's it say???

If it does still say s-off, then you may just need to reflash a recovery.

+1. SouthPhilly is correct about this.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes I did root her phone using unrevoked and it is on s-off. What I had done was flashed cyanogen mod 7 but she says her phone is still messing up. So southphilly how do I reflash a recovery?

Go to this thread over at xda... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 and download the zip file and follow the instructions in that link. This should give you a some what of a fresh start.

Also I would after you install the new recovery just do a complete factory reset and reinstall everything she needs or wants like Rom, apps and the such. Don't use any back ups, it could miss something up.

Let me know who it works out.

It looks like I can just flash a new recovery from Rom manager, so I did that. I had clockworkMod 3.0.0.5 and now have RA recovery V2.3. So do I now do a factory reset? Also do I have to flash back to clockwork after all this in order to flash a custom Rom through Rom manager.

Moved to root section.

Now that you have a custom recovery, nandroid back up, wipe everything via recovery and flash a rom of your choice.
