Hisense Sero 7 Pro - Unboxing pictures (no video)

Discovered a quirk with my Hisense Pro. When I have it attached to my laptop (Win 7 HP) via a USB cable, the touchscreen is out of whack. Like it's severely out of calibration. As soon as I detach the USB cable, the touchscreen works fine again. Anyone else see this?

Any time the Sero charges on the PC or a phone charger that doesn't put out enough amps it does this.

Well, I decided to take the plunge and not wait. Wilmington area WM (Centerville Rd and New Castle) have some Pros. There were about 6 hidden in the store room at former:1 with a 12/30/13 mfr date per first id on box; others with 03/30/13. I took 1 with a '1LBL94xxxx' on second box id number. No flex on rear cover that I can note but not going into destructoid mode.. MicroSD cover is slightly not flush with a card inserted but stays put.

First impression (ex camera which I haven't tested) agrees mainly with the positive reviews here, Youtube and on Revision 3. Responsive, vivid screen and fast execution. Power use in power saver mode is modest and I'm impressed that when charged fully and shut down for about 6 hours and not on AC, it was at 100% in AM. I also like that even though it is only 8Gb, the available app memory looks like about 5.4 Gb with a bit less than 400 Mb now. The Thrive 16 Gb AT100 has only about 3 Gb for apps . On the Thrive, I now have about 2.2 Gb used with well over 100 apps including 'Next Issue' Mag App which itself has about 400Mb of data internally stored at my settings. Looks like there's plenty of room for Apps unless you're into huge memory hog gaming apps.

As coming from a stock Thrive AT100 running HC 3.1 which I like, its going to get playing to get used to Jelly Bean 4.2.1. (eg, How do I restore my apps and data from Google cloud backup? There only seems to be ways to sync social networks an e-mail. Have not been able to transfer files to a 4 Gb MicroSD 'out of the box' but haven't installed any 3rd party file manager yet. Also, if I have app data on my Thrive's 32 Gb SD card and not sure if I can transfer this to the Hisense tab)

A few negatives. Minor-I had to upgrade 'Pandora' as version on it said I didn't have an account even though I logged in on Thrive and PC. Minor-Short USB wire and AC charger relative to what I'm used to with Thrive brick as I usually stay plugged in at home. As the Hisense will be more for travel, this may not be that important. Minor-using without a case for now and it runs slightly warm sitting on my leg.
Major- While sound was OK on built in speakers even on a hard surface, use of earbuds gave somewhat poor music quality - shallow base, hollow sounding. Tried it head-to-head with my Thrive. I may be spoiled with Toshiba's excellent sound enhancements to Google's plain vanilla settings. With a high quality Bose QC-15 headphone, results were decent but not up to par with the Thrive.

I deleted a couple of apps-Wallmart, Sam's club. I installed Amazon App store and restored one of my games-Angry Bird Rio-Free- from my Amazon account (lost my progress, though;-[). Also, added my yahoo and verizon e-mail acoounts with only minor problems on following what I had on the Thrive.

Took the Maps update on my wife's Sero and it works just fine.

There is another thread on Android Central.
This is a link to what I've found that I don't like in the new Maps version.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=2925408

I don't use my tablet for navigation, so I'm just looking over the new version.

I do use my phone for navigation and won't be upgrading.

Anyone download the P756.6.02.11.00 system update?
This is encouraging, since I had little expectations there was going to be a whole heck of a lot of support from Wally World & Hisense. I went into this thinking it would be a handy tablet for travel, if it meets a horrible fate on the road, better it than a $$$ iPad. Turns out I underestimated it.

BTW - I saw there was another Maps update that hit the store yesterday. Downloaded it, but haven't had a chance to give it a run. Fingers crossed.

Doesn't sound right to me. I've never seen a device not work properly just because it's charging via USB. My laptop tells me if it thinks the charging source isn't sufficient but it will still work. Kinda makes it difficult to use while attached to my PC! IMHO, that's a defect. I'm wondering if a powered USB hub would work better.

Didn't know there was an update.
Where did you find it?
There's no update listed on the tablet.

I turned it on last night and received a notification that there was an update available for download. It is about 55mb, update to pre-installed apps and fixes for performance and stability issues. I should have taken a screenshot, but it was late.

There are multiple comments about this buried in the thread.
The tablet requirements are for a 2.1amp charger, a PC is .5 amps.
I've never had the issue on any other device either, they just charged slower.

I don't use the PC to charge, or transfer files, so it hasn't been a problem.
For the initial loading of all my music, Photos, videos, I put the card into my PC and transfered them all at once.

Subsequent videos from DVDs I have always used Dropbox to send them to my devices.

Thanks, nothing here yet.
Of course I've rooted mine so it may not show up.

I have zero issues with the screen when plugged into my PC, it just doesn't charge the battery.

I can't rule out the possibility of one of my USB ports providing more than 500mA, though. But all the other ones are in back, so I'm not going to try them all to check. I did once have a USB hard drive that would work without a power adapter on one port but not another, but that was on a previous motherboard.

I grabbed a few USB cables and started plugging the tablet into my laptop.
A variety of things happened depending on the cable.

The cable that came with the Sero.
It would charge and you could copy/move files, to/from the tablet.

Cable from my S3 would only charge.

1 Generic cable was data only
2nd generic cable would only charge.

On all the cables that would charge, the touch screen touch points were off slightly.

When I plugged the tablet into my S3 charger, the screen was way off. Trying to unlock with a pattern was almost impossible, took 3-4 tries.

Had you registered your Sero 7 Pro. I am trying to determine is update roll-out is only to those who have registered. Thanks!

I called Hisense as web site has no place to register this type product. Rep said it isn't necessary-they pick up your data from Wally World computers. As e-mail wasn't entered at WW, I don't know how they contact you on issues. This was one (minor) plus on Toshiba Thrive purchase but support then lagged later (eg, Android update, fixes).

I only have a system update option. It keeps saying I am up to date. Where do i go in settings to see the current software version listed, other than android 4.2.1?

I have found that it is important to use the cable that originally came with your device along with the manufacturers approved charger or there may be issues.

In regards to the usb charging issue. I've had my sero 7 pro for only a few weeks now, but I've charged it exclusively via the usb connected to my desk top with the cable that came with the tablet with zero issues so far.

Just tried the cable that came with it on my Dell D630. The touch screen still goes nuts when attached via USB to this computer. I will try another or a powered USB hub.

This tablet charges better with the cable that came with it. Unfortunately mine fits too loosely in the plug and isn't charging properly so I called to get it replaced. The rep had me email him the issue with my contact info and a photo of my receipt attached.
