Honeymoon over

Honestly it has nothing to do with the fore knowledge that the SD card slot doesn't work and more to do with the fact that a device coming out next week does have the feature working. I haven't made up my mind yet.

The way I look at it, I came in knowing the limitations and I'm patient enough to wait for the updates. Plus, I like the feeling of getting new features over time... it's like Christmas every couple of months! :-)

I think its time for people who say its unstable to tell us what, I use Amazon VOD than I will get ADD and look at other stuff and have multiple tabs open and never have any instability problems.

It's always random, I get about 3 restarts everyday on this thing. I use it everyday almost all day. Sometimes the restarts just scare me, like the ones while I watch YouTube videos. It just freezes up randomly (no warning) and crashes with an annoying beep sound.

God it gets tiring seeing people keep complaining about no LTE or SD card support yet and that's why they are returning their Xoom. You knew from the start it would not have those features enabled before you bought it, so stop using it as an excuse for returning. If you didn't like it fine, if you had buyers remorse or just want to wait until one of the other many devices come out that's fine as well. But returning something because it lacked a feature you knew it didn't have yet and wouldn't have for at least 90 days says more about you than the device itself.

That said I am still loving my Xoom. Use it daily to read, browse the web, and play the occassional game. it would be nice if Comcast/Xfinity would get a working app out for Honeycomb and gingebread, but other than that I am happy with it.

AMEN Brother!

I think it depends a lot on how you choose to look at it. Features which are not working (which you knew full well were not when you got it)

OR

Free upgrades that will be available soon.

EDIT: the only other Android tablet that intrigues me at all is the HTC Flier and it does not even have Honeycomb.

Playbook could be really nice but probably not till the 2.0 hardware that does not require a Blackberry for most features.

I love my Xoom; I spend many hours a day with her. She just keeps getting better every day, as she learns the things I like. She now supports an SD card and I am also able to plug a thumb drive in if I need to export a file or my boarding pass to print. Recent updates to Kindle and Dolphin Browser have vertually resolved the force close problems and greatly enhanced the Zoom tablet experianc. Oh, and her Flash support is very sexy.

Thank you and totally agree!! I love my Xoom and have no complaints. To be honest I'm just amazed at how people buy something knowing what they're getting and then jump ship... then again perhaps they didn't have a clue.

You guys always talking bad about the zoom but you must love it cuz you still hang around the forms like stalkers. And let's not forget its honeycomb that is the problem the transformer will have the same problems so please stop stalking your ex tablets go to your new tablets forum I cry about honeycomb the grass is not always greener on the other side

Still love Honeycomb, and am actually still using my Xoom until I return/exchange it on Tuesday. Honeycomb will never be able give the Xoom an IPS screen, or fix the poorly designed AC charger, or fix the poor vol controls or give it a KB dock with a built in battery. The grass is greener when there are dead spots on this side. HC in all its greatness can't overcome poor design choices by Moto. I'm sure the Transformer will have its own set of issues, such as the known camera issues, but I have no need for that feature. I'd much rather have a non working camera than non working SD and USB ports. No one is complaining about Honeycomb, were just excited to see better options in hardware. No need to get all defensive and defend the Xoom, we all bought one and know it was a great first go, and Motor will probably improve upon it in the future, but choice is a good thing. Its what avery fabdroid runs around screaming to defend the Android OSm but now its a bad thing when someone wants a different choice in hardware?

Sorry, can't have it both ways. Choice is good, if you enjoy the Xoom great, no one is asking you to read posts about us having and making a choice. We do howevee post here to get feedback from other members that have used the Xoom in helping decide if the move to any number ofther HC tablets suits our needs better.

Many Xoom users including myself converted from the original I pad as the Xoom is the first HC based tablet and wanted to give HC a try. After seeing the potential in the OS, some of have been using IPS displays and basically well built hardware that no, I didn't expect Motorola to include an AC charger hat looks and feels like an afterthought. The volume rocker should also not be sunken in far enough it takes anything more than a light push to get the button to actually work.

I'm happy for those with no issues with these things, but again, the fact HC is coming out on so many tablets I'm not going to settle for the first one knowing (IMO) better hardware is less than a week away. It still runs HCm just like when I upgrade my PC.. same Windows 7, just improved my hardware. Not really out of the ordinary, tech progresses, I usually am an early adopter and give it it a go. If better faster more useful comes along, I move on. Simple as that.

This is like people on a gaming PC forum talking about the custom built PCs they build running Win 7, no one cares what brand ram, or CPU, gpu etc.., sure some will say they prefer brand xyz, but the focus is on the OS and performance it brings each user. If Android users here act like were buying I pads lol, seriously get it over it, you tell us to stop talking bad about the Xoom like you personally built the damn thing. None of them are going to be perfect, and this type of discussion will go on and on week after week with all the new tablets coming out.

I'd suggest you grow some thicker skin because this is only the beginning.

Even a casual look at the smartphone market suggests that there are years and years of there always being a newer/better/faster tab just around the corner. In six months, the Xoom and the Asus, like the iPad2, will be "obsolete" in terms of the features and technology available six months from now.

Flawed reasoning.

If you bought a XOOM and it doesn't cut it for you, there is no reason "to get feedback from other members that have used the XOOM", other than to make the rest of us listen to your diatribe.

We have three XOOMs in our home. All work flawlessly and we are all happy.

If a significantly better tablet comes along, we will switch and I'll show up on a different section of this forum and leave this one behind. It's that simple. I have no emotional need to leave a steaming pile of dung behind me for the people who do not share my values.

Yet is clearly bothers you enough to come back and read what we have to say. The "leaving a steaming pile of dung" is for those that would come to the Xoom specific forums, looking to buy a Xoom. They see a thread where people are not happy with the device and/or switching they may find the topic of interest as to why someone would choose device X over device Y.

This feels more and more like the iPad forums where the drooling masses try to stone anyone that doesn't suck SJ @#$%, seriously get over it already. The Xoom has issues and the OP wanted feedback, and that is what we left, good, bad or otherwise. Sorry if we are not brainwashed into thinking the Xoom is the best tablet out there.

I'm glad you like your Xoom but I'm just responding to the OP about my experience--which is what he asked for in his post. So if you don't want to see people complaining why did you open this thread? I'm sorry I can't provide you with the affirmation on your purchase that came looking for here.

That said I am still loving my Xoom. Use it daily to read, browse the web, and play the occassional game. it would be nice if Comcast/Xfinity would get a working app out for Honeycomb and gingebread, but other than that I am happy with it.

So you use it to surf the web and play a game sometimes--that doesn't sound like a robust usage pattern to me. It hardly justifies the cost when you consider the other options out there.

Everyone always talks about the "potential" of the Xoom and waits patiently for these updates which will finally fulfill this potential. That's fine, once these updates are released and the potential is fulfilled, THEN maybe the Xoom will be worth the price and I'll get one again. However, I have a feeling that by the time the Xoom has been updated and all features are available and working well--the successor to the Xoom will be on the horizon with far better hardware and software integration.

My skin is just fine... I'm not the one coming to the Xoom user forum crying like a lil school girl after returning the Xoom looking to others for comfort in the decision... those might be the people that need thicker skin.

Might be a generational thing, but I'm still amazed at how many people buy something and end up returning it. Guess that's their right as it relates to a retailer's return policy. Just comes off to me as those people that buy clothing, leave the price tag on and then return after wearing.

I personally do my "test driving" in the store, other research online and then make an educated purchase. IMO making a purchase and then "test driving" only to end up returning is taking advantage.

Flame suit on...

But returning something because it lacked a feature you knew it didn't have yet and wouldn't have for at least 90 days says more about you than the device itself.

Initial comments from both Motorola and Verizon did lead people to beleive it would be weeks, not months after release for these features to be working. The fact that it has now been 60 days is a bit bothersome to me as I bought mine at costco with the intention of only keeping it if 4G LTE worked out better for me than using it with wifi only. Also, after 60 days, I am actually starting to run low on storage, also a little frustrating that other tablets have now been released with working SD - I know, I know, they used a work-around but, none the less, its officially supported by the manufacturer and those devices don't need to be rooted to use it.

None of this is enough for me to return my Xoom, I love it and will continue to use it, but its also my right as a consumer to complain to the manufacturer about the devices failings.

why is it tiring? It's perfectly reasonable to expect these things to be working out of the box.
I can well understand anyone venting about it. Fortunately, I don't need the extra space or speed for my usage so I'm happy enough. But I do feel for those that want what they paid for now.

It gets tiring because we knew when we walked into the store that they were in the coming soon column not the now working column. Yes it is frustrating especially since there exists a rooted kernal that will support it. However if you didn't do the research first and know that these issues existed that is your own d?'@ fault. We will get it. Maybe instead of spending the time bemoaning it here we should all expend that energy bugging moto to get it pushed out to us.

Nah, it's a lot more like AVSforum; the return rate is about as high as over there too. Pretty much every tablet announced is a Tegra 2 device running Honeycomb, the only differentiation is screen size, screen type, or gimmicks like the Transformer. Which isn't to knock the Transformer, but I do get the impression a lot of people really wanted a netbook at the end of the day, not a tablet. If that means the Transformer is the Honeycomb device for you, great, apparently Asus has a market. Other than that it's mostly splitting hairs over price, weight, screen size, or the quality of the panel.

Personally, I hate Samsung color processing/contrast, I don't want a netbook, I want a 10.1" screen, and I like the idea of having a reference device... so the Xoom is a good option for me. I guess there's always the Acer and Toshiba tablets, but they're going to be a while. Although, lately, the lack of Honeycomb apps and constant force closes have been getting to me, and the fact the only app I feel like I really use is the browser. Flash is of course nice to have... now if there was just an easy way to block it like I do on my computers...

Anyway some days I still love my Xoom, others I just want to throw it at a wall, but I still have more than 60 days to decide either way thanks to Costco. If it does go back it'll be because I think Honeycomb is a wash, which I'm starting to consider a very real possibility depending on what the rumors of 3.1 bring.

Still own the Xoom.

Simply replying to the OP's Question about plans for the device.

Only people that seem to be taking issue is those that want to keep it, lashing out because they can't handle the facts that the Xoom has issues. Simply stating the obvious about a product that 60 days in has competition that is clearly better suited for some people.

I'm happy you can make a decision based on a store visit and online reviews. I myself prefer to use a device for a few weeks and run it through all the various activities I need it to perform. Many of which I simply cannot do in a store.
