How bad is the LG V30 display

Mine is perfect, the one before that (exchanged for camera problem) was perfect too. No banding, great colors, even textures at night. The first one had a bit of a blue tint....not alot but enough to see but the return unit barely has any at all.

Based on what I'm seeing these are great screens with problems that are blown out of proportion by bloggers wanting clicks.

Test driving the V30 and have to say it's impressive or at least this copy is. No msjor complaints. The camera in automode is the best LG so far, however it still has room for improvement. The audio is second to none.

My son and I both have had the phone for several weeks now. As I never had an issue with the screen I took the time to go to 20 percent brightness with several different displays. I couldn't find any issue on my phone nor could my son. So regarding the screen, it's an non issue for both of us

I've replied before, but now have had the phone for a few days. My other phone is a Samsung Note 8. The screen on the V30 is very good. The only way I can tell it's not as good as the Note's screen is putting them side by side, and even then it's not that different. If you're considering this phone and what's holding you back is the screen, I would not let that hold you back.

Just posted this over on XDA, thought relevant here.

Picked up my new V30 tonight (manuf Oct).. What I can say about the display:

1. On a completely white background at 15% brightness (what I would typically use), I can barely make out a small band at the bottom. I can't notice it under any other circumstances. I'll stare at the screen a little later on, but I'm 99% sure that my particular device is fine. There is no such lines on my Galaxy S7 flat that is one year old.

2. There is a blue tint when tilting the device that is not an issue with me. When I tilt my Galaxy S7 I don't see any tinting.

That said, the display is perfectly fine, but if compared side by side with the Galaxy S7 you can see that the Samsung display is a little better, especially if viewing at an angle. To be honest, it is not something I would have noticed had I not put the two side by side.

The carrier rep said that they have not had any complaints from customers since I last spoke to her on Friday and sales are going well. The first batch had some returns due to screens, but none lately.

I say if you are worried about the display, then those worries might be behind you. Just make sure you are aware of your carrier's return policies and have a look before settling on the device.

Off topic: Only thing that has me worried so far is that the fingerprint scanner does not like my right index finger (it has a scar). The scanner kept complaining that it was dirty when I was using that finger near where the scarred part is. No other fingerprint scanner has ever had an issue with the scar.

Mine has one faint vertical band just right of center. It's only noticable on a white screen at low brightness settings. But, may see if Verizon will swap it out.

What was your camera problem?

I received mine yesterday was a little worried after everything I've read. I really shouldn't have worried the screen is fine. In normal use including apps and browsing with brightness between 30 - 40% the screen looks fine. I've owned multiple smartphones LCD and OLED and this seems like a lot of fuss about nothing...

Honestly, my biggest complaint about the V30 is how light it it. This is a very subjective thing. To me it just feels very cheap compared to my Note 8 because of how light it is compared to the hefty Note 8. But this is actually completely a non-issue. Most people probably prefer lighter phones, and the build quality of the V30 is outstanding.

Anyway, I found a case that adds a lot of weight to the V30 and also looks very nice, and am now a lot happier with it. For me, because of its DAC, video camera, etc, there's no question now that I will keep the V30. My only question is whether or not to also sell my Note 8. I can afford to have both of I want to. I prefer some aspects of the Note. But forced to pick only one, it would be the V30.

I bought mine a week ago and I LOVE it!
The screen is the opposite of BAD. I have used a ton of phones over the years, and this screen is one of the best. I've played with the Samsung S8 and Note 8 and while yes, they are beautiful screens, they are not the end all, be all of phones. They have their own problems and issues.
I've also used an iPhone 8 a little, which also has a great screen, but I am not wanting to jump from Android to iOS.
The V30 has a GREAT screen. (at least my particular unit does, and since they are mass produced, that stands to reason I am not the only one with a fantastic screen on his device)
So Watching Netflix looks well, fine. The details on the screen are fantastic. I don't think there's an issue with the screen.

How to check manufacturing date, i know there is a label on the side of the box but where do i check via Serial Number of IMEI?

Downloaded LG Phone Info app date is Nov 7, but i can confirm that i'm having screen issues below 30%, thats UK model bought from Carphone Warehouse.

I have also compared to Note 8 and noticed that Note 8 has banding all the time no mater on what brightness the screen is.

I saw the display. The OLED screen of the V30 is just bad. There’s no dodging this issue, and there’s no making excuses for it. This isn’t a good display, and if your phone doesn’t have a good display it might as well be a Nokia 5110

What are your thoughts about it?

It looks good. But doesn't look better than Samsung BC Samsung is the king of AMOLED displays for phones. Only they have the SUPER AMOLED technology, while everyone else has OLED. Personally, I think IPS LCD screens looks brighter and has better whites IMO.

Samsung's Super AMOLED and LG's P-OLED are mostly the same technology. They are both active matrix OLED displays that use plastic substrates and integrated digitizers. There may be differences in the materials they use for the pixel sites and a different pixel layout, but the difference in name is mostly a marketing exercise.

Most phones that have an AMOLED display got them from Samsung. They just can't/don't call them Super AMOLED as Samsung has the term trademarked for their own phones.

Hello, where did you find the LG Phone Info App please. I looked on the Play Store and can not seem to find it. Is it an LG made app? Thank you for any help.

There are 2 apps on the Play Store. LG Phone Info and LG Phone From. Use either one. Both give same info.
