I asked the question before a couple months ago and found no solution.this is hoping things have changed the past couple months and an update to whats changed on the phone.

*phone shows up as unspecified device but not in "My computer"(Win 7)

*toggling usb debugging is noticed by the computer but doesnt actually change anything.

*doesn't show up on samsung kies

*phone is rooted(despite not showing up it worked)and i may have tripped Knox recently.

*i have tried different wires (using the ps4 wire currently) to no avail

*the phone stopped charging and i replaced the usb port.

Maybe a silly question but is your screen unlocked when connecting to your PC?

You say you replaced the USB port on the phone? Did you do it yourself or did a shop do it for you? Do you own an OTG cable? If you do, can you connect a USB flash drive to your phone and does the drive show up in My Files? Sometimes it takes the phone a while to see the flash drive. If it doesn't show up, disconnect the drive and attach it again.

Also, are you familiar with Win7 and getting around Admin Tools and such... specifically Services? If you know your way around, can you go to Services and check to see if you have this entry in the list... "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework". If it's there, is the service "Started"?

Also, USB debugging is not required to be enabled for connection to your PC (in this application).

Easiest option. AirDroid. Download AirDroid from the play store. Then on your pc/laptop go to www.airdroid.com.
Activate AirDroid on the phone. Then on your pc you will see a QR code, scan it with the built in AirDroid QR reader, then you will connect. In doing this you can transfer any file to pc, and to phone. I do this with my music. It is all automatically connected via your home WiFi. For example a full 120 MB album takes 60-90 seconds. It sounds difficult but in fact takes seconds. I don't do USB connections. AirDroid is easy and fast.
Good luck.

I know there's many choices. I am used to AirDroid and find it very easy.
Also there are lots of users on the Playstore unable to connect with sidesync.

Well, Sidesync is new so I was just throwing it out there.

No probs. Everyone has their favs.

Hey I've used both AirDroid and SideSync. I prefer SideSync now as it has a few less bells and whistles than AirDroid.
Finally i had to remove AirDroid from my computer as well as Kies, and any other application that connects to the phone, then reboot the computer before SideSync would work.
Just a heads up. Good luck
