How do I get the new Gboard to capitalise 'i'

[AC Question]

I have a Nexus 6, and since it installed the new Gboard, it won't capitalise 'i' while I type.

I've looked for fixes - the suggestion is to delete 'i' from my personal dictionary. But when I look in my personal dictionary, it says 'English (United Kingdom)' and then when I look inside that, it's empty.

I've tried adding 'I' with a shortcut of 'i', but that doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

Is auto correction turned on in the Gboard settings? Mine turns "i" into "I".
