How to increase the brightness of a dark photo in Gallery

Greetings!

I am currently having an issue and am having quite a hard time finding a solution.

A while ago I had a Galaxy S5 and was looking through old pictures in my gallery. The pictures were quite dark and the phone had an option to enhance the pictures and make them brighter, through another app within Gallery, so i could actually see what was in them. I am currently 3 phones removed from that S5 (second S5, Note 3, and now Note 5 everything I touch breaks) and I cannot for the life of me find the option to do that on any of these. It seemed like my original S5 launched a special photo editing app (Which i didn't download i checked my google play account).

It sounds quite complicated but it was such a simple procedure and I wish to be able to do this again with my current phone. I have tried other apps but nothing worked as well as this "stock" app the S5 had. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

These are also older pictures not ones i just took. They were from a vacation 5 or so years ago, the exposure was so bad they just look black but after I used the "enhance" feature they look like what I saw that day minus just a bit of distortion.
