How fast is YOUR 3G?

I just picked up the Optimus yesterday already have it rooted and loaded with Harmonia 1.5E ROM and i was suprised at how low my 3g speeds were..im getting 231 ping 185 kbps DL 399kbps UL, i had to use WIFI to DL all my apps from the market which ive never had to do with any other phone before ...i just got rid of a Sprint phone ( which Virgin mobile runs off of Sprints network) and i was getting anywhere from 900kbps DL to 1.7mbps DL on it. Im wondering if its just me or some limitation or governer. I will be traveling out on monday so i can test it more then. Anyways just wanted to share.
Thanks

I've heard this is normal. Just because Virgin Mobile runs off Sprint's network doesn't mean we get to reap the benefits sadly, or at least that's my view on it.

There is this link to the xda forums that tells you how to change your PRL: [HOWTO] Change PRL on Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V (5/06/2011) - xda-developers. Some people have found it helps them get better 3G speeds because they're able to connect to a different, closer Sprint tower (instead of just the ones that Sprint limits to VM's use)

I often get an average up 400kbps down (the highest I've seen is the 700s, lowest around 100). I've tried the PRL swap mod and.it didn't seem to change my coverage or 3G speeds regardless of which PRL I tried. But maybe its just me.

Then again I only have 1-2 bars at home, in my basement (where my room is), standing next to the window...and our internet is only 1Mbps because my parents are too cheap to buy any more bandwidth. They don't think we need it.

EDIT: I noticed how it says that on 3G I'm 700 miles away from the server that I picked...so I tried it again by turning off the location services (GPS and finding by Wifi/Cell tower triangulation) and this is what I got (mainly much better upload rates...strange. lol):

Yeah I did it too, didn't really notice a difference but then again according to Open Signal, at least at my house, I didn't change towers...so oh well. I kept the hybrid 61667 one on there anyways, might come in handy when traveling or something.

I just started working in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and i'm shocked. My DL speeds are 2.3mbps. Up is just under 1mbps. At my home I rarely get more than 400 down.

I'm .7 miles from a cell tower and I'm getting these speeds. Good thing I have very good speeds on WiFi
I let it choose it self cause I'm lazy.

My speeds are spotty here in Buffalo, NY. I get anywhere from 150 down to 900 down, from 400 to 1200 down, and a ping usually around the 600s.

I live in Rincon, Puerto Rico and my speed is pretty bad.
One screenshot is the speedtest i did now, another is results ive gotten this week and another is of the fastest speeds ive gotten since the summer.

@Jdcnosse, the sad thing isn't your parents being cheap, but that 1Mb internet is still avail. The same here, one local company still offers 512kb as their cheapest, but another company's cheapest plan is around $30 for 12Mb.

in a word, abyssmal. in Indianapolis it was spotty from .3 to 1.1
here in Central IL like .1 constant

I live in Chicago IL .

3g =
Ran 3 times. 2-3 bars stayed at 3 bars mostly, 4am
1st - Ping 211, DL 976Kbps, UL 29Kbps
2nd - Ping 189, DL 905Kbps, UL 27Kbps
3rd - Ping 201, DL 1040Kbps, UL 26Kbps

at 4am it is pretty good right now but i swear when i need it while i outside of my apt during the day 3g is crappy i'd say it's usually 100-400 avg.

Lets discourage people from getting Virgin Mobile or Sprint and maybe our speeds will go up, haha:D. On my college campus there is a cell tower (on the tech building) so I get six bars everywhere (and 3G), but things are so congested the speeds must be like 10kbps, yes that low. Everywhere I look, I see people with Optimus V's.

Dont know if you've already changed your PRL, but i've changed it a number of times in attempt to get better 3g speeds. I'd all but given up, but then i found a PRL that was newer, but didn't have the exclusions from the sprint "post-paid" better faster towers in my area ( Tallahassee, FL). Prior to this PRL my 3g speeds were 200 kbps down on a GOOD day lol. After swapping for my current PRL ( 60681) My speeds are always at least 600 kbps down, with an average of about 1150 kbps, and my all time fastest individual test of 2199 kbps down.(May or may not have been a fluke). I'm not saying this is the right solution for everyone, but for me it is AWESOME. (Been through PRL's 61007, 60677, 61677, 01115, 60676, 22081, etc)

How can speedtest.net be really accurate when I live in new York and it sticks me on a server in Oklahoma which is claims is only 30 miles away from me?!! :p seriously I manually changed servers to one in Wyoming and my speed doubled from 300 kbps to 600 kbps...
