how long has your battery lasted F-E

I unplugged my phone from the charger around 9PM EDT yesterday. A few texts messages here and there and the occassional WordFeud play. An Additional ~40 minutes or so of Angry Birds before goign to sleep around 1AM EDT.

Came into work @ 8AM a few texts and about an hour of Angry Birds.

Display 44%
Voice Calls 20%
Cell Standby 17%
Phone Idle 10%
Angry Birds 6%
Andriod Sys 3%

Still have about 50% battery life left. Getting better!

Upon further investigating...

This might be because Samsung used a dirty hack to make the Galaxy S phone CDMA friendly. This was the way back with the Hero and we started flashing 2.1 ROMS.

Go into battery information and check out the Cell Standby info. Time without a signal is what's important. If that is high... like double digits high, it's because Samsung didn't fix that little issue of trying to find a CDMA tower over a GSM tower. Sigh... we might need to wait for a fix, but in the meantime, people need need need to call in about it. Tell them 5 hours of battery life isn't acceptable, nor is installing Juice Defender (it totally makes your smart phone a dumb phone...)

Hey Keith to be clear with your statement, is it that the Epic is trying to lock on to a GSM signal over a CDMA network because of the "dirty hack" you allude to, or the other way around. I think trying to lock on to GSM (because of poor radio firmware porting from GSM Galaxy phone) makes more sense to me in explainng this business of time without signal and shortened battery life.

Would you please elaborate more on this theory. Thank you.

I placed the phone on the charger around 3PM today with 27% of battery life left. Definitely doing better.

Agreed... my daily drain and charge of the battery is definitely beginning to improve the life, which is how it's supposed to work and is definitely welcome

My first 2 days' battery life was absolutely atrocious. Now all of a sudden the last 3 days the battery life has been very respectable. Guess it just had to be broken in.

dont know if or how to take sceen shots but wanted to type the info in before i charge it or it turned off.
1day 38mins 11secs since unpluged
33%cell time
32%display
15 phone idle
6% sprint nav
2% android system
2% pocket empires
I have screen set to low setting and atk set to kill all when screen is off.
Gps off and wifi on always. So for what i use it for and how long I'm out for , if I can last 8 hours before a charge I'm good. today at work was'nt able to use it as i would but my for what i did check today on my phone i am very happy with it....

So, I look for ATK on Market... and there is advanced task killer, and automatic killer. Which one are you using? Is anyone else using either or?

I am a BB convert with the Epic being my first Android phone. I am used to going 3-4 days max without charging a phone. And that is with Google Maps or Sprint Nav with moderate browser and email usage.

I got my Epic on launch day and immediately place it to charge. At first use I got around 4-5 hours with it. As time passes and with additional tweaking here and there I am noticing the increase in battery life. I still have to charge it once daily. Mostly charging when at <10%.

While I love the phone and it's capabilites, I am not 100% satisfied with it and that is due to the battery life. The most I've gotten it to last was a little over 8 hours. I notice that my Display is typically above 30%. I've recently turned the Auto Brightness off and disabled Auto Sync and Background Data. Audible touch tones, phone vibration, haptic feedback and a few others are disabled.

I'll continue to tinker with it and post updates. I like to exhaust all options before jumping to conclusions about it being defective and having to start all over.

Where can I find this option? I notice everytime I unplug the phone from the charger GT is signed in and Sprint Hotspot. Would like to turn both of these off.

LOL I agree.

I have also noticed the same, and constantly have to turn both of the two off. I am also coming from a bb, where I could text and email all day, along with use the browser moderately AND bbm and still go two days before charging... I can't even get my epic to last 6-7 hours when I am using it for NOTHING besides texts! :(

What gives??

I took come from a BB but I NEVER got more than a day out of my phone with minimal use. Would always have to charge it every day. The most I ever got was a day of almost no use and had to charge it in the morning because it had 1 bar left if that because I forgot to put it on at night.

According to Battery Status pro I used 20% for texting for an hour. Wifi enabled and service not great where I am right now.

I just did the same with Advanced Task Killer. Don't know how long the batter will last longer if it will; but, I'll put it this way:

I end all always with the native task killer. I ran around 260-270mb of ram at all times. I installed this to kill everything at screen off. I'm running 190-193mb of ram on screen power on before doing anything while task killer is running. Deff a plus on that end! I'm sure this will deff help battery as well since nothing is running in the back.

I don't think the native task killer does much. It misses things it appears.

The ram went up but nothing is running. Not sure why still only in the 210 area.

Pushing 2 hours 34 minutes now of the same screen use. Messing with the app killer emails text and everything. The native battery indicator hasn't gone down from 4 bars now where it went down one bar after 1 hour of just texting. Think this is going to do the trick.

The problem, despite what it tells you on the phone, is that the back button doesn't end the applications. Although they won't show up in the native task manager they show up in ATK and the ram shows it.

For sure biggest problem is the data 3g, if turned off battery lasts for ever.
Turned off 3g at 10pm with 98% battery power. At 8am still had 96%. Turn on 3g battery good for 4-5 hrs.

Except the intercept lasts for days with the same battery, and no need to turn off 3g.

How do you turn on data and when you do can you receive text message.

Text are not sent through 3G/4G which are the radios you can turn off. Those are sent on 1x which will still work as it did on older non-EVDO capable phones.

With the data off, you will loose email, and syncing (weather, contacts, facebook, twiter, etc). All those will return as soon as you turn data on again.

After installing ATK I'm on my 7th hour of texting and email (light to medium use at times) and only 1 out of the 5 bars is gone on the native battery indicator.
