How Long Is HTC Going To Keep Early Upgraders Hanging?

I'm puzzled ... for those of you commenting in this thread who didn't install the "leaked" version ... why are you commenting in this thread? I know, free internet, open board, etc ... but really ... what are you adding to the conversation? This is about HTC and bringing those of us who installed up to the "standard". By not installing, I'm not understanding what you're adding other than a reason for people to call you "trolls" or argue with you.

I did install .3. Never said I didn't.

ill be more then happy to answer your question without being rude or anything because I did not install the .3 update.. Its the same reason I post in the Droid incredible forum and dont have a incredible... Its not to troll and start wars its to be informed and inform others... Which is why you generally see more views on threads then responses.. The only reason some spoke that didnt have the .3 update is because some not all were bashing HTC for a mistake in which they made by prematurely updating their device.. I really looked at the thread because I was curious and figured id be on the "lookout" for those left in the cold and if anybody possible came up with a fix in this thread I could help others here and on other forums..

If HTC would leave Android naked, and not put that Sense (Remedial Android) crap embedded we wouldn't have this issue.

I still find it rather hilarious that Sprint's Web site still has the latest update listed as .3.

Current Version: 3.26.651.3

That page was "Last Updated: Aug 04, 2010." And yet HTC calls it an "unofficial version."

There are no innocent actors here. We the early installers are partly to blame, but so are Sprint and HTC. Their messages have been inconsistent and Android devices should be much easier to upgrade to new versions (as long as the hardware can handle it).

For commercial and competitive reasons Sprint and HTC announced the availability of 2.2 on the EVO. They wanted to be 1st. So did we. We're in this together, and that's why Sprint and HTC feel compelled to get us early adopters back on track. They know that they done wrong, that's why they are merely frustrated and not pissed. I dare say they are more frustrated in themselves that with us.

What does Sense have to do with people updating to a zip that had not hit their phones?

Also you bought the phone with sense installed. Why complain about it now?

Man, I'm really missing what all the frustration is about here. I loaded .3 before the weekend, and haven't had any problems. I can't imagine .6 has anything I'm desperate to have, so I'll wait for the OTA fix. And if it never comes...big deal...I root.

You can't root the OTA. Just food for thought.

"If you applied the unofficial EVO update, we are working to get you back on the official track. We will get back to you in the coming days"

"If you who installed an unofficial update on EVO last week, we working on a simple, effortless solution. Please bear with us a bit longer."

"A small reminder that when official SW updates are ready, HTC or your carrier will notify you. Unofficial software can create future issues"

...so if any of yall got the .3 update like i do just chill..htcs working on it

Wow judging from the back and forth here it seems like we have lost focus on the issue. Yes we downloaded and unofficial 2.2 update no one denies that but why are we fighting in the threads? HTC and sprint are just as much to blame as us. So with that said let's just wait for the fix and stop with the fighting we are starting to look like other phone's forums.

The download was available on HTC's site are you serious? Sprint's own website had 7/30 as the update date. I spoke to 3 tech support reps from Sprint and a few from HTC and they ALL said that the update was available. They said it wasn't official HOURS after it was released.

Yeah..not only that but the .3 update on the sprint site was the exact version us early adopters downloaded. Plenty of reasons for us to believe it was legit, from the number to being on the HTC site.

I am hung because of being UnRevoked 3. Do you think it woudl make sense for me to flash the .3 leaked as a path to OTA when the HTC fix comes out?
Or do you think the HTC fix will work with those of us that ran UnRevoked 3.0?

People need to realize that if you installed the .3 update, that was on you. I was one of the ones that impatiantly installed the leaked update, but I'm smart enough to realize that I did that on my own accord; HTC doesn't owe me anything for installing something they didn't tell me to install. And before you say this was an official update that was hosted by HTC, HTC or Sprint never told you to install that update. They said a manual update may be available before the OTA, but they didn't publically say the leaked file was "THE update"; it was simply "an update" hosted by HTC. Got it? :)

Theres a fix floating around the indirect sprint channels, however its password protected zip and the link is down

C'mon man we are beating a dead horse now. I understand your frustrated by the mis information about a fix but there have been Twitter post galore on the issue and we have been told there working to get us on track.

I stated this in another thread but the file being hosted on HTC and Sprint's server in no way means it's official. As everyone should hopefully know, vendors release their updates to the mobile carriers for testing before they approve of the general release. There was no communication from Sprint or HTC that THAT file was THE Froyo update, end of story.

For all we know, there could be Gingerbread images floating around on a public server for testers. If we installed that, are we to assume it's official and ask for full support when something goes wrong?

There was a lot of evidence to lead to the logical conclusion that .3 was the 2.2 udpate...

1) Engadget announces froyo and says rollout is going to happen on Friday for early adapters.
2) Engadget gets the official announcement of August 3rd for OTA, no word for early adopters.
3) Friday comes, people are surfing for information. Sprint updates their software release notes to .3, making most people think it's coming.
4) HTC and Engadget have the froyo manual file that is the .3 sprint says.

Again, leads to the very logical conclusion that .3 on Friday was the legit copy.
