How many Moto X 2014 users have cracked/broken their screens?

It's like saying that a car is poorly built because if you crash into a telephone pole, it gets all dented up.

This.

Thin phone=tiny surface area on edges and corners

Plus....

Metal = less absorbing than plastic of impact energies

Plus....glass.....plus drops.....

Equals.... Broken glass.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the build quality of the phone. Which is excellent

6 days into having mine I dropped it off my coffee table. It landed on it's edge so that's what probably did it in. The screen was intact but the LCD liquid leaked making the screen useless. Motorola was pretty great to deal with and they even sent me a replacement at no cost. I have a Casemate case on it now. I don't trust this phone enough not to have a case. Every other phone I have had was dropped and abused and held up just fine.

I was likely the first person in Canada to have a Moto X 2014, and the first person to break one. That was fun, as there were no repair parts up here yet. A well made phone, but fragile.

Funny you should ask...In all of the years and phones I have EVER had, never broke one in any form or fashion with dozens of accidental drops, UNTIL the MOTO X 2014. Dropped it once 2nd week and shattered the top left of the display. Tried my carrier and Motorola....TOUGH LUCK, NOT EVEN AN OFFER TO DISCOUNT THE REPAIR. So much for Corning Gorilla Glass! Argh!!!

dropped mine in 3rd day and Motorola good-willed a new one to me...bought the anti-shock film protector and have dropped it a few times and it has held up...

My phone has a basic diztronic case, and screen protector. I dropped it the other day from less than 3 feet, screen developed a few slight crack, and the bottom 3/4 of the screen stopped displaying, rendering the phone useless. The side of the phone hit the step of my car, and then landed on the ground. The crack originates right in between the power button and volume buttons. In my opinion the frame of the phone is too soft and the shock travel to the glass and the digitizer, very bad build engineering.

I dont have moto care, why? Because my phone shipped two weeks after I ordered it, and moto care needwd to be added 30 days from the order date, not the date it ships or arrives. Motorola's phone reps were clueless, they kept on telling me to order it from the website and had no understanding what I was trying to tell them. So I'm stuck without moto care (decemeber time).

Motorola advance e repair is also a nightmare to deal with, transfered from one person to the next, their english was not understandable.

Each of the 4 times I've tried contacting motorola were worse than the next. It's a shame an otherwise almost perfect phone, is plagued by awful customer service.

Things break, but I have not seen any issues. My Moto X has been totally naked. I did not put on any skins, screen protectors or any type of cover. It usually sits on my desk, or in my shirt pocket or pants pocket. No issues... and this does include a couple of drops.

I guess by reading this it sounds like I'm either very luck, or there really are not that many people having these types of issues... since there have to be a lot more devices that people are using out there and there are a lot of people on this forum that have Moto X (2014) devices.

I'm like you - I keep my phone in my pocket or on my desk, and it's had a couple of drops with no ill consequences. I use a Cimo Wave TPU flexible soft case on the back but no screen protector of any kind. One of the falls was from the bathroom sink to the floor, which was a hard drop, and it landed facedown but it didn't even get a scratch. I know I've been really lucky and stuff happens, so that's why I have Moto Care.

I truly don't think this issue is exclusive to Motorola. I've seen enough shattered Galaxy and iPhone screens from coworkers to know it happens to other folks too.

I never could find a case that didn't make the custom ebony back look horrible. So been rocking it naked since I got it last fall. I've never cracked a screen on any phone I've had. I've dropped this one in a few parking lots and on plenty of floors with only a few minor dings and scratches. But today it fell out of my pocket in the bathroom all of 2 feet. Hit right on the corner and landed face down. When I picked it up over half of the screen was covered in a spider web of cracks. It hit perfectly on the beveled corner....sigh. No insurance on it either.

My wife had the 1st generation X and cracked her screen. She was able to have Motorola send her a new one at no cost. Doesn't sound like they are doing the same thing with the 2nd generation X?

I look at the phones of my coworkers, and I can tell you that most people don't care about their phones. They all look like they've been thru a war. I myself don't understand that attitude towards a potentially costly tech purchase. For those that go naked, you get what is bound to happen. Scratches, cracked screens, nicks, etc......

I always hear: "my phone is too beautiful to cover up"! I didn't know there were cell phone beauty contests, or that one might receive praise that my phone looked good and that made me a better person. I thought that the average person would actually care about protecting their hard earned investment and put a case on it. I guess it's more about showing off these days. "If I cover up my new <insert name> phone, how will people know I'm cool?"

Btw, I've never had a phone break or even get a minor scratch. I take pride in the stuff I own. As an aside, I get maximum resale value too when it's time to move on. Most other people throw it away or recycle it.

If I got even a hairline scratch on my screen protector I almost freak out. Luckily, I can replace a screen protector.

It's hard to replace the phone unless you're rich. Maybe I'm just crazy anal about my stuff, no, I am. I almost don't like using my phone for fear of damaging it. I like perfection. I know it's weird, it's just me.

Aside from that, I just don't understand why people don't take better care of their stuff.

Dropped mine today.. From about waist high onto a tile floor. It hit square on the corner and bounced... Thankfully not a scratch on it... It has the Hula bumper with Xtreme Guard screen and back protector...

I understand your point. For me, I paid money not only for the expensive cpu/display/radios etc. but also for the design and ergonomics that Motorola offered. I like how my phone looks. I keep it naked because I want to enjoy those looks. I don't care to show it off to anyone nor do I care if people notice it or not. I've tried cases, but they all make the phone less nice to hold the phone if you will. I don't have the fancy leather or wood backs, but I've got the bright blue plastic. Even so, covering that up with a case just ruins the overall design for me.

I realize I am taking a risk running this naked, but I figure, I would much rather enjoy using my phone as much as I can and be careful, rather than stick a case on it to make it last longer. Besides, even with a case and/or screen protector, if it lands the right way when you drop it, it will still break. There is a smaller chance, yes, but there it is there nonetheless.

I've dropped mine a couple of times. No serious damage, thankfully. I've just been lucky so far. If eventually I do break my Moto X, I've got a cheap Lumia 635 to hold me over until I can have it repaired :). Although, I may get a windows phone next time, I actually kind of prefer windows phone 8.1 now that I have had a chance to use both.

Me too, same thing - no cracks, no scratches, about one year of usage. Although I damaged a Sony PSP screen years ago... I don't recommend, awful feeling. :(

Had mine caseless since last August, not a mark on it, dropped it once but managed to kick into a hedge inches before it hit the tarmac!
I had an early Nexus 4 before (before the rubber feet on the the back) and I had to put it into a bumper as unless I placed it on a rubber surface it would walk around and jump on the floor!
I have a case but don't use it as it looks terrible, puts a horrible lip round the screen and you lose those very narrow edges which I love.
All the marks on the leather seem to heal themselves and it looks as it did when I bought it, I would like a little wear on it but I don't think it's going to happen. Black leather.

Everyone has their own preferences and I get it. I just can't stand the feel of a phone without the extra "bulk" as some would call it. I prefer the feel of a phone with a case, as it has more substance and has more "meat" to hold onto. Without a case, it feels too thin and breakable. I also go thru cell phones pretty quickly, so resale value is also a consideration for me. Also, before anyone chimes in with " but a case detracts from the natural beauty of my beloved treasure", I tend to use clear cases so that the "beauty" can still show. I'm not huge fan any more of thick military grade cases. But I do have one for when I'm out partying. ;) It saved my phone a few times. :)

Hopefully I will not enter this list.

But yes it´s just luck but you can help it a bit. I had a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I was going up some stairs and I have no idea how it happened but my Note 2 became a frog and leaped out. a 4 meter drop on hard stone with some gravel on it. Hardly a scratch but I did have a leather wallet and the phone disintegrated nicely. backplate jumped out, battery jumped out all helping to dissipate the impact I suppose beside my leather wallet.

Then next time I was lying down and the phone felt out of my pocket onto again very hard concrete stone. A drop of an impressive 20 cms... Guess what crack in the corner. I got over confident and didn´t use my leather wallet just a back casing if even that. Still quite usable so no disaster. Third drop did kill it though. Bending forward and a fall of maybe 50-60 cms onto some metal grates... I have no idea why I always drop it onto the worst possible surfaces I could find. No visible damage but the panel would just not light up anymore.

Ordered two back plates and a wallet already for the Moto X 2014 may go wild without at home only ;)

I need help. I bought a moto x and I lost the box and my screen and LCD went out. I called Motorola to see if I can get the phone fixed. They want the imei but I am not the original owner. How can I get the imei number? I connected to a PC but no luck.

Go to the google dashboard website, log in, and expand the android section. It should list all the devices you have used on that google account. I believe it also lists the imei.
