[HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root or app required)

I will keep checking back to see if this works with an Evo. I am hopefully getting my Ochocinco discounted Xoom later this week so I will definitely try the steps you outlined. If this works this is HUGE!!!!

I agree completely, this is a MAJOR feature of honeycomb/XOOM that has been overlooked or undiscovered. Hopefully it will work on your Evo, please let us know once you find out. This could be a big XOOM selling point if it ends up working on lots of devices.

Definitely no on demand. I've gotten it to work on five separate times but the last time I had to toggle the tethering button under profiles on/off a couple of times before the connection took.

Yeah, I just can't get it to work...they pair, they're tethed but the xoom just doesn't get an internet connection....
I would sign up for Verizon 3G data, but the $35 activation fee is just a major turn off.

well....only people who study the boards like us will be able to figure this out. There is no way Verizon would be trying to sell this tablet because of this feature.

Seems like such a strange feature, but will be great if the majority of us can get it to work.

I use about 3gb of data a month on my Evo and will have to be conscious about using wi-fi whenever possible on my Xoom because I don't want to pay more than $20/mo more than I already do for my Evo. I think 5-6gb would be enough to cover my data needs between my two devices.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Verizon doesn't want anyone to know about this, its a great feature for the user but not the providers.

so... i see all of you are using the driod2, x or pro which are produced by moto.
i want to know how about the rest of the android's phone?
are they work too??
or do they need android 2.2 or above ??

have any one have more details ?? as i come from HK and using HTC hero and prepare to buy the xoom.
I am still thinking should i pay more to have a data plan for my new Xoom becasue i already have a unlimit plan for my phone.

Please help.
Thanks!

This needs to be stickied.....:D

I'm having no luck with my Incredible, but it's a cool feature. Props to the o.p.

If I had to guess I wouldn't think it would be a Motorola only thing but we don't have any confirmed cases with any non-motorola phones. Hopefully more people will try it and report in, I really hope this works on more than just Motorola phones.

No joy on my HTC Incredible.

What part didn't work? Like did it connect fine but just not tether? Did you click the little wrench once they connected? Is the incredible on an older version of android? Just trying to isolate what makes it work or not work.

I also can't get this working with my Incredible. They are paired, but for some reason will not connect. I tapped on the phone icon on the Xoom, but it will not connect. The wrench icon is there, but only give the options to Rename or Unpair the device.

This is so cool, thanks to the OP for the heads up, one step you might want to add is to turn off your WIFI on your phone.

Tethering

I tried this with my Droid 1. It pairs but won't connect. When I hit the little tool button, I only get the ability to rename or unpair. Any ideas why I can't connect at all?

Same^^^ and tried re-booting. I'm guessing it's a moto-to-moto perk. Pretty sweet though!
