[How To] [Discussion] Improve Battery Life

bstats

lol. good old days. you mean yesterday. norton is an aweful thing to do to your computer. i have 2 or 3 service calls a week where norton has blocked someone from getting on like. same with mcaffee. thats not even mentioning all the other stupid crap those programs do to your computer.

battery doctor. i will have to give that a looksie.

So all aboard 4 ec10, but still would like if somebody smarter could check this "Battery Doctor" @ Market 4 "Full cycle charge" ...

I just ditched the data roaming stuff; never messed with it before. As it is I am using the EB15 kernel and it has been doing a lot better than any previous froyo kernel on my phone. Still, the difference between cell coverage in my home area and work area means getting 24h+ from my phone @home and 12-15h from it @work.

Of course, none of those numbers matter when my wife is after me to play words with friends; my tendency to stare at the board and keep the screen alive while playing will kill my battery in under 2 hours.

I tried the full charge/terminal emulator/bstats thing last night and so far it seems like it's working.

Yesterday I got a 15% warning at about 2pm. So far today I'm at 85% after 4 hours with about the same use. One modifying factor might be that I have a lot more reception today so I can't tell how much that is helping things. Might try that EB15 or EC10 kernels too if those seems to help.

Hello.

I'm running SC 2.9.2 and when the phone battery is fully charged, I got no notification saying charge complete or so.

Any ideas?

Yes, that pop up was disabled in superclean, and it needed to be. When do most people charge their phones? At night when they are sleeping. Then at about 2 or 3AM, the notification pops up, the screen lights up and it beeps. No fun being woken up every single night. When you fully charge your battery, it will stop accepting the charge then slowly drain back down to about 95%, then charge back to 100% and continue this cycle until you unplug it. So no matter what, when you unplug your phone after being charged all night, you will have at least 95% charge.

Hello Landshark.

Thanks for you response...I feel better now that I know my battery is ok, LOL

Yes, it will be fine. That cycling is done by a circuit (or mini computer if you will) in our batteries to prevent overcharging which would damage the phone. You still shouldn't leave the phone on the charger for long after it has reached full charge as the circuit prevents overcharging but it does not prevent overheating. That will happen if you leave the phone plugged into the charger for a long time after it is fully charged.

thats very interesting, where did you hear that about the overheating?

i will have to add that info. thanks.

Yeah, sorry. I should have mentioned that sooner. Just so busy at work lately trying to get caught up. Just read over the first posts and everything looks great. Nice job Mike.

P.S. Also may want to add in something else I read in those articles that our batteries perform best when they are kept at 40% charge or higher, so throwing it on a charger in the middle of the day is not detrimental at all for the battery.

Does anyone know if that 1800 mAH battery Mugen power will fit in the Fascinate???? If so, this could be HUGE!!! 1800 battery that fits in the same location, no new door required.

Please someone with more knowledge than me, let us know.

Where did you see this battery? The only extended batteries I've seen for the Fascinate were the Seidio 1600 mAh slim extended battery, and the 3000 mAh monster that added a huge badonk-a-donk on the back of the phone.

ETA - I went to the Mugen website and the 1800 mAh battery is for the Cintinuum, not the Fascinate. My guess would be no, it will not work since they are different phones. Mugen does offer a 1600 mAh battery for the Fascinate, but no 1800 mAh battery.

DANG IT! I was hoping the 1800 for the Continium would work with the FS.

Oh well. I will keep hunting...

I will say this...the only thing I miss about my BB Tour is the battery life. That thing was a beast. I remember going 2-3 days with a single charge. My Fascinate was awesome on battery life when I installed SC 2.9.1, but when I upgraded to 2.9.2 I noticed it's draining noticeably quicker.

its not the rom perse. that is the differance between 2.9.1 and 2.9.2 isnt the cause. eb01 is broken. plain and simple. thats why it was rejected. the battery and the phone get out of sync. if your phone shows you battery at 50%, it is more than likely not 50%, just about that. im sure when the new custom roms come out this will change.

There is actually a Samsung 2200 mAh battery available on the Verizon web site. Comes with a different battery door, so don't know how much thicker it will make the phone. May want to go to your local vzw store to see if they have any in stock to see how thick it is.

what's a long time? I've charged my phone overnight with the phone off, has never seemed to be a problem. I've never noticed that it's been warm or hot when I've picked it up afterwards.

Also, I've got some other questions for you guys about charging... have you guys noticed that if you have your phone plugged in and you reboot, the battery level jumps... by a lot? right now I ran my battery down and then I rebooted to recovery to flash a few things and when I booted back up, the battery was up to 46%, from 5% before I rebooted. so this can't be right... would this mess up the battery reading where I would need to reset bstats?

also, how often are you guys having to clear bstats? thanks
