[How To] [Discussion] Improve Battery Life

I too have noticed not too hot battery life when the phone is in use, regardless of what I'm doing..The phone does good when it's idle, but when I use it it's draining fast..

As far as dolphin goes, I would feel pretty safe guessing, viewing pages in desktop mode, (which is what i keep it on) drains the battery more than a mobile view..

there needs to be a better battery saver browser with tab browsing. Dolphin is killing me. It does make sense that it drains faster when u use it though bro as opposed to when its idle:p :p

haha..I guess that did sound obvious..lol

However, with some setups I've had the phone drains just as much when it's idle as it does when it's in use.. it's more even or consistent if you will

Versus no/low drain when it's Idle and an accelerated drain when in use. O:-)

that make sense?

Ya I got you.I have just come to terms that I am one of the unlucky ones who can't undervolt all that much and have cruddy battery life. Like really bad and I have done all the tricks nothing works.

Have you tried a different battery? There's always the possibility that you have a flawed battery so to speak.

No I haven't. Do you think I could just go to big red and complain and they would giveme a fresh one? You think I would need to go back to stock if go in to complain? Because that would not be worth it to me

Yes, you would most definitely want to be stock if you went to them for that matter. But there are other options, buying from ebay, specific battery stores etc. VZW would probably not even care to help on the subject as I've personally encountered in the past with a previous device. If you have friends or family that have the same phone or battery see if you can work something out to try their battery for a day or two and see if you notice a difference. I personally think a lot of the battery issues people have is more often with the battery itself. It's just like anything else in this world, unfortunately they aren't all made the exact same and there's always going to be a bad one in the lot.

Edit: I believe this true because with the past device I mentioned I had a brand new battery that seemed to have horrific battery life and then stopped working altogether a week later. Had the battery replaced with an identical battery and it worked perfectly.

I may have to convince my father to put my battery in his phone and go complain so they switch them. He has a fully stock fassy. He wont let me touch it:-) I figured not every battery is creates equally. But he to complains about bad battery life and like I said bone stock. Thanks

i downloaded the battery calibration app. i have 2 batteries. do i have to use the app with both batteries, or does it wipe the info on the actual phone, not on the battery chips?

It wipes the info on the phone, but in doing so you are also syncing the reading on the phone with the reading on the battery in the phone at that time. If you switch batteries, the phone and battery are no longer synced.

It wipes the battery stats on the phone but with whatever battery you choose to calibrate the phone with you shud stick with it for a couple days after wiping bstats. Use it and charge it normally and when the drainage seems to be consistent then you can start swapping out batteries, thats what Ive been doing.

OK I'm curious about this - are we training the phone for the battery, or for how you use the battery?

The reason I ask is that both my wife and I have a fascinate. We have an extra battery and a separate charger. So I may end up using 2 or 3 batteries in a couple weeks. Do I need to do the bstats thing each time I reload a different battery? Or is it just collecting data on how I drain the battery, and since the stats for that are going to be independent of which battery I use, it won't matter, and only needs to be initialized once?
Thanks, Jeff

you shouldnt need to as long as you put your battery in at to 95-100%

Gunner,
Let me see if I understand the instructions. i am completely stock running froyo from the VZW update.
Step 1 is to charge my phone while it is on until the phone says it is fully charged. then turn the phone off. Now here I am confused how will I know that it's 100% while it is off? THen i turn it on again until it says fully charged again.
Step 2 I already got a terminal emulator
Step 3 and 4 i understand.
Step 5 is basically use the phone and see if I have better battery life.
Step 6 I have 2 questions here. First how do you reboot to drainthe battery is that turning the phone on and off? Second when do I do this? after using the phone a few days or right after step 4? Also how will I know the battery is 2%-4% I only have the battery symbol it doesnt give me percentages. Also i assume the phone is not plugged in while doing this.
Step 7 what is " a consistent charge reporting"? ANd how long does it take to charge while it is off? and does it make a difference if i use a charger or charge it by connecting to a USB port on my computer?

Thanks in advance

First of all you need to be rooted to be able to calibrate your battery check out the how to root sticky in the front page.

Screen settings

Can someone clarify the difference between the "Automatic brightness" option in the brightness setting, and "Power saving mode" which also claims to adjust the screen? Thank you

Here is what I don't understand about mine. My wall charger will not charge either one of my batteries more than 97% . However, if I charge off laptop and USB with phone on it charges to 100%??????

I have done all the wipe stats procedures, Any ideas?

Have you sat there and watched the phone when it is charging with the wall charger or have you just noticed when you come back to unplug it, the phone is at 97% or lower? There is a circuit in the battery that prevents it from being overcharged and causing damage to the battery. When the battery reaches 100%, the circuit cuts off the charge and lets the battery drain down to about 95%, then accepts the charge until the battery is back to 100%, then lets it drain again. It continues this cycle until you unplug your battery. You may just consistently have the bad timing of coming to unplug the phone when it is between 95 and 97%. If you are watching the phone during those final stages of charging and confirm it will not go past 97%, then sorry, I have no idea why that would be happening.

I turn off phone and charge overnight. Sounds like your "bad timing" statement is correct since I charge this way most of the time.

Thanks
