[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

HEY-

do you guys know any good applications to send chats/texts to phone numbers?

Google Voice, it sends text messages to any phone.

If you want to chat/text, Bulova is a good app. but the other person needs to have it installed too.

Roberto,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it - following step 4 of the Marketplace portion of post #1, in Terminal, I moved to the platform-tools directory, copied and pasted the first line (adb shell mount, etc.), hit enter, and got this message: "-bash: adb: command not found" Don't know what to do now. Any thoughts? Thanks again for your help and patience.

Actually that's an easy one....

Unless that folder is in your $PATH environment, you need to preface the command with ./ (./adb ...) if adb is in your current directory or give the full path to the directory. When in the Mac OS X command line environment, you are subject to the peculiarities (and power) of Unix. :)

I feel like an idiot, but as long as you're OK helping, I'll keep asking. I started with ./ so the command line was "./adb shell mount, etc." I hit enter and got "error: device not found". Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

ok so i got honeycomb going no problem. Now on to installing the market, got SDK installed and USB drivers install. when i go to CMD and type in abd devices i get abd is not recognized as internal or external command. what am i doing wrong? would love to get the market installed and get this thing going.

Now you asked one I probably can't answer.

I would check the obvious things, NC connected to computer via USB, SD card inserted, NC turned on and awake, etc.

All that checks out. Oh well - giving it up for the night. Thanks for your help.

and when you go to device manager is your nook listed as the ADB something something?

If so, try to plug it into a different usb

or try to open the command prompt from the platform-tools folder (or wherever adb.exe is installed) by holding shift and right click on the folder

DKATZ- do you belong to SuFu too?

also

how you get google voice? i can't seem to install it....

Don't think so - what is SuFu?

I'm not sure what happened, but I have rooted B&N 1.1.0 (internal) and rooted HC (SD card) both working fine here. I installed the 1.1 update before doing anything else, but I don't see how that would affect HC. I also tried Froyo on a SD card, but wasn't that impressed.

Ahh I was thinking when I installed HC on the SD card it was rooted, I was seeing msgs referring to not having root access. So you're right it works fine, I just need to root now!

I feel defeated. It's a terrible feeling.

Is there a way to load apps without installing the Vending.apk and GoogleServicesFramework.apk? I can't get any of my computers to let me access adb... I've tried Win7, XP and OS X.

Can someone please tell me if I should have Google map and Gmail apps installed after going through the adb market and framework install?
Thanks in advance.

I can help you with the windows set up,

First do you have the Android Sdk set up on windows?

1. No, you have to installed it follow this link: http://www.androidcentral.com/sdk-driver-root-oh-my

once the sdk is installed move to step 2

2. Yes, follow this link to get the drivers and adb working: http://nookdevs.com/ADB_Over_USB

if you get stuck, ask questions here

I have Gmail installed, but not Maps. Some people are reporting problems with Maps. Remenber this HC is based on a preview SDK, so is not fully complete. Once the final release is out, it will get better. Not that many apps now are compatible with HC.

The nook shows up in "android phones" as "andfroid composite ABD interface". I tired "abd.exe" and "abd devices" from the prompt from the platform-tools folder and still get the error.

I need to get up to 5 posts before I'm permitted to send a pm but I appreciate the quick response. Thanks. The only netbook I have at home right now is running jolicloud but I may take you up on the windows offer later in the week -- really hoping to solve this problem over the weekend though.

i am having the exact same issue. i also tried it on xp and am getting the same error. i downloaded the usb drivers and did everything else everyone has suggested. im wondering if it is because i used my blackberry as my card reader? im almost officially giving up and going to try to install it on the internal memory.

you need the android Sdk intalled, then you installed the drivers.

I follow this guide, thats what it work for me, the guide has a check to make sure everything works properly.

ADB Over USB - nookDevs

Hi Will, Thanks for this!!! I followed the instructions and got HC running on the SD with very little issues. I was mildly confused about the adb, and then downloaded the Oracle Java SDK, then the Android SDK (Did I need the Oracle?) Got to the market etc, working good!!!! Looking forward to the full blown release!
