[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

I've placed the image on my sd card and placed the sd card onto the nook. It seemed to have booted fine, but it is asking for "a password to decrypt the contents" what is this about? Can anyone help?

I have the NC ver 1.2, I'm going to try this out. But my main concern is this, will this work?

I mean has anyone tried with ver 1.2 recently released?

I'm going to give the SD install version, in case i just reboot it if things don't work out well. If it works i might just do the internal memory install, but until then it's the SD version.

Thanks again in advance for all your input.

I followed the instructions on the first page to the "T", but when i open the winimage program and follow those instructions, the window that opens is blank and i can not select any files (the img files).

There was another open to copy to the F drive i did that and when i continued with the instruction it didn't work.

So the winimage part of the instruction didn't complete, anyone else have this issue, if so what do you think it the problem

I have windows vista, and a 4Gb micro card.

Thanks in advance.

update:

in winimage program, open in administrator mode, this works.

Another question: is there a way to boot the native nook os while the HC microsd card is still in place (I want to run the nook OS without physically having to remove the microsd card)? Thanks.

I am using this boot menu feature for CM7 on SD and NC stock.

I've made it thru 34 pages and just have one question:
****************************************************
Installing the Android Market on the Nook Color running Honeycomb:

1. Download this version of the Market (2.2.11).

2. Download GoogleServicesFramework.apk.

3. Place the files in your adb tools folder (or platform-tools on the newer version - wherever adb.exe is)

4. Open a command prompt in that folder, and issue the following commands:

adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system

adb push Vending.apk system/app/Vending.apk

adb push GoogleServicesFramework.apk system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk

adb shell

cd system/app

chmod 6755 Vending.apk

chmod 6755 GoogleServicesFramework.apk

exit

adb reboot
***********************************************************
After installing sdk, etc to be able to get to adb and typing in the command lines...
does each line do something when you hit <enter>?

curious because from my old command prompt days, wouldn't "exit" take you out of command prompt? If so, how would you type "adb reboot"?

thanks

Made it thru 57 pages.

Maybe this is in pages 58-129, but I read you can't install apps from market in < 4hrs, nook app not working, angry birds, youtube, etc etc.

So what is value in this? Why go thru hassle of installing market if you can't use it? What can I do once I have HC?

Not being an a$$, just curious before I get started on figuring out step 4 on.

Answer to Reis's exit question

Reis,

adb shell ; Puts you into "command prompt" in the NC
...
...
...
exit ; Takes you out of "command prompt" in the NC
; and back into DOS command prompt

HC on SD card running smoothly on my Nook Color.
But, how to explore the nook internal storage, i just tried with astro manager , there is no emmc or internal device detected.

Hi everyone. New proud owner of Nook Color. I have 2 quick questions.

1. My nook came preloaded with stock 1.2. Can the guide in this thread for running HC off the SD card still work?

2. The guide mentions to use a memory card with at least 4gb...I only have a 2gb lying around...will it work?

Would appreciate answers:)

Cheers!

1. Yes, the guide helps you burn an image to the SD Card. has nothing to do with the internal EMMC.

2. Try it, but the bigger the better.

BTW, don't get frustrate if things don't work right. This version of HoneyComb is based on a preview SDK, not the final SDK nor the XOOM. Something might not work as intended.

I don't think astro can do that, you need to be rooted to explore the EMMC. Once you are rooted, I would recomend Root Explorer app, it works great.

Any comment on the email program that comes with HC. I've set it up to access my yahoo account but it's ridiculously slow. Are there any better email apps out there.

question I am using a mac and when i type in "dd if=nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk# bs=1m" i am getting no such file or directory.

never mind found the info in the forum.

Device not detected

Hi Will: I am getting really desperate! I downloaded honeycomb on my NC, and it seems to run fine. I got the adb (easy) up and running, but my PC does not recognize any device at all. Under drivers I do find two Barnes&Nobles drivers in Device Manager, but that is it. So I got no ADB Interface or anything else listed. When I issue adb devices in command prompt, I get all the normal stuff except of course what should be mentioned below list of devices attached. I downloaded the two apk files and put them in the platform- tools folder, but once I enter the necessary commands, I get the message, no device found. What shall I do? Without the android market it is all just half the fun. PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks!

Is there a way to verify that the image was burned correctly on the SD card?
I downloaded/unzipped/dd'ed but my nook boots the regular way then tells me that the file system on the SD card is corrupted and I should reformat it.
I just bought my nook color a week ago. Would BN have turned off the ability to boot from the SD card in later models?

The card is a 4G Sandisk class 4. I didn't get any error when dd:
3500+0 records in
3500+0 records out
3670016000 bytes (3.7 GB) copied, 922.461 s, 4.0 MB/s

"file nookhoney04.img" gives me this:
nookhoney04.img: x86 boot sector; partition 1: ID=0xc, active, starthead 1, startsector 63, 240912 sectors; partition 2: ID=0x83, starthead 0, startsector 240975, 1365525 sectors; partition 3: ID=0x83, starthead 0, startsector 1606500, 1365525 sectors; partition 4: ID=0xc, starthead 0, startsector 2972025, 2618595 sectors, code offset 0xb8

Oops, my bad. I dd'ed to /dev/sde1, not /dev/sde. Everything works fine now.
