[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Is it possible I wiped my OS while trying to load nookhoney in WinImage? PC crashed and "Boot device not found" error pops up whenever I try to restart.

Awesome.

I'm not familiar with WinImage (I'm on Mac and Linux), but if you wrote the image to your PC's hard disk, that could happen. That's what all the warnings about making sure you use the right disk are about.

Edit: forgot to quote for response...

Every time I try to open the market, I get a white screen and it force closes. I've repushed 3 times with no luck :(

Any Ideas?

I get that right after installing the market. Reboot the NC and it should work fine.

so now im getting this. i reimaged my sd card per the previous error, again loaded hc just fine but im running into this when trying to push the vending apk

I finally got Market installed after having the same problem for the last two days. What I failed to realized is that there is a space between mmcblk1p2 and /system.

adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system

Once I got that space in there it was like butta'! First app loaded was Kindle. Gotta go try it.

Thank you, Will and Deepblue!

Download the ISO for Parted Magic....it's free. Burn it to a CD. Boot from that CD. Run the partition editor. It's located on the desktop after Parted Manager finishes booting. Use it to resize, reformat, repartition your SD card. Make sure you hit the "Apply" button after making your changes.

@ ferrels - thanks. The Parted Manger program worked for resizing the disk; however, I still got the "Enter password..." error. I put it back in and reformatted the expanded partition. Still no luck - rebooting still gives the same error. And I still can't get past it and into Honeycomb.

Interestingly, when I got this error in the earlier version of Honeycomb, swiping accros the screen brought up a second keyboard layered on top of the main screen. On this new keyboard, the keys on the extreme far sides on the bottom row where the space bar is, were in Chinese(?) - all the rest were in English. I noticed at one time there was a file in the IMG that was in a similar foreign language. Not sure what it did or who put it there, though.

In any case, card still won't work. I guess the next thing to do is go buy an 8GB class 10 card and set it all up for the 5th time... Damn! :-\

I had the same thing with the 8GB PNY card that I used with version 2. I switched to a 4GB Sandisk and it works. There is nothing wrong with the 8GB, as I tested it in a phone, card reader, and camera, all without issues.

This happened to me on my 8gb PNY also, I haven't tried a different stick yet, but I will.

Auto-Nooter is what I was looing for!

NOW I LOVE MY NOOK!!!!!!

Glad I could help, Once I got mu nook rooted I realized how awesome of a device it really is (for the price) Now i'm just spinning my head on trying to get a stable bluetooth...

Edit: N/M, I changed the file and the accelerometer is still jacked. Going to reimage the card to see what happens.

Just put Honeycomb on my SD card tonight. Accelerometer worked fine until I used the custom build.prop file to change LCD density. How would I revert it back to default?

That's what it sounds like to me also. More than likely he clicked the checkbox to show non-removable drive checkbox.

I installed honeycomb onto my nook. However I can not get SDK to recognize the Nook nor can i get the market place installed onto the nook. I am able to turn the nook on and use it but its kinda useless if all you can do is check email and go on websites. Please help with this problem.

I'm not sure if you have or had the same problem as me.

I had 2 Win7 64 bit PCs and neither could run any of the adb commands because I was getting "device not found" even though the drivers were installed and Windows saw the nook.

I installed the Android SDK on my laptop (32 bit) and went thru the driver install etc...

I tried once again to start the adb commands and got the same error even after updating all the packages and confirming the drivers were installed.

So I typed (from the platform-tools directory) "adb kill-server" and then the adb commands started to work and the nook was "visible".

What I found out is either the nook drivers don't play well with adb and Win7 64 bit or it's "Droid Explorer" which was on both of my 64 bit systems.

So maybe this can help you or someone else.

is there a way to install android market on a mac?
it seems like its all for windows...

You can access the Android Market via the web now, so it isn't a mac/pc thing.

If you are asking about how to install the market to the HC sd image the various dev kits are avail for the mac just as well as the pc, but are a but harder to find if only because off the diff in user bases. Macs are great, but require a bit more work in this context...

Unfortunately, in this case, I use a win 7 pc, so I don't know where to get the stuff you need. Hopefully,a mac reader on this thread will post the info you need.

As has been noted elsewhere in this thread, please keep in mind that, "if you have to ask, this might not be for you" (yet), as you can really mess up your system if you aren't careful. In this case, paranoia pays off!

Anyone know how to run SD card requiring apps on this?

The Nook app says You must have an SD card to run.

where do i type in adb kill-server? I didnt get any errors before but I want to try this anyways.

I have v 1.1 and loaded Honeycomb on a 8gb SD card per the instructions, then loaded it into my NC and it works fine! To revert back to the stock NC, just remove the SD card and turn it back on. Voila! Stock NC, v 1.1. Believe me, I'm not a techie, but if I can do this, anybody can! However, there is a fly in the ointment........I want to load more Android Market apps, but I can't quite figure out the instructions for doing that. How and where do I bring up the command prompt to enter the dialog for installing the apk files in the adb folder? Where is that folder? It doesn't seem to be on the SD card.

I just got it working with a 4gb sd. Still some lag & not as sensitive to the touch as my ipad, but still slicker than snot on a door knob. well done.

I put Honeycomb on my v 1.1 NC and it runs fine. It loads on the SD card and runs from that. It doesn't change any files on the NC. When the SD card is removed, the NC reverts back to an e-reader. Honeycomb works great, but unless you download more apps, there isn't much to play with!

I get failed to copy 'Vending.apk' to 'system/app/Vending.apk': Out of memory and failed to copy 'GoogleServicesFramework.apk' to 'system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk': Out of memory Errors. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I have it installed on an 8 GB SD
