Simple/Stiupid question:

When I download the files, I'm downloading them to my computer correct? not directly on the phone.

Correct.

In Step 2, I had to go to the "Source" link to download the file *OFFICIAL* SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 - xda-developers. Am I downloading Dk28 Update of DK18 Update? It seemed obvious that it would be DK18, but I thought I'd ask since I had the experts' attention.

Don't go to the "Source" link, that is for reference/crediting the original source only. Download the file from the "Link" link, which is "SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5".

Using the Odin method with the above two files took me 3:17 to go back, now have GPS and normal battery.

When using Odin, Step 9 has changed, there were 2 boxes checked, one is now gone from newer Odin. I used the same one I went to D28 with.

Good luck, it works.

How to Roll Back on Mac to 2.1?

2.2 has been a disaster for me unfortunately. How do I roll back on a Mac to 2.1. I tried using Odin in Parallels using windows XP but it will not work or recognize the phone. I also tried in Virtual Box, but that did not work either. Any ideas? I do not want to root it, just go back.

You will either have to install Windows on your Mac through Bootcamp or find a PC to use - you need Odin and it's for Windows only unfortunately.

umm help me out here.. open 0din? my comp is telling me is doesnt have a program to open this is...

i am. i updated to froyo and now i would like to go back to 2.1 and wait for the official release. any help? thanks in advance

Im getting everything on my computer ready to flash the stock rom back to my phone in case I do something to it. My question is about the di18file download. In the directions on the sticky it says to rename and take off the md5. I have no clue how to rename and take it off. I downloaded it and saved it to the desktop and when I choose to rename it doesn't have the md5 at the end. If I put the file in Odin it has the md5 and all the example pics don't have it at the end. How to I get it off? The only thought I had was when I go to save the file I can change it from md5 to all files? Would that work? Thanks

I just reflashed back to stock 2.1

I took off the md5. off the file and it worked perfectly. Not sure about leaving it on. I didn't read anything about renaming but I just renamed it so it corresponded to the picture.

Here's how to rename: right click on the file --> rename

if it doesn't show the extensions, then you need to enable it in windows. I'm using 7 so these directions will be for that. others similiar

open control panel --> folder options --> click on "view" tab --> uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

hope this helps :) just giving back to this awesome community :)

Most likely you don't have the correct program to open this with. The link downloads a compressed version of Odin in "rar" format. Google "winrar" and download that. It's free and after you install that, you can extract the information in the compressed file.

Here my issue and any advice would be great...

I am running baked snack 1.6 and the last backup i have is with baked snack rom. I want to remove baked snack to install another rom but the last backup i have is with the baked snack rom. Is there a way to just "uninstall/remove" baked snack while keeping my current data or a way to get back to my stock rom and restore my current data without the baked snack rom. I checked hours of to figure out this without posting.
Thanks

The normal procedure is Backup>Wipe your phone>Install new ROM>Restore Backup

If you're going from an Eclair ROM to a Froyo ROM, it gets a bit more complicated.

Thanks! I went ahead and followed this thread to 're-stock' my phone prior to the 2.2 OTA and it worked like a charm. No issues whatsoever...other than my missing bakedsnack and wondering if I jumped the gun too quickly.

You guys are great and this site is always very helpful. Keep up the fantastic job.

Rooted but wanna flash back

trying Odin, it gives me the error MD5 hash value is invalid please help, noob here!

On average how long should the whole process take? It seems to be stuck at

<ID:0/004> param.lfs

The icon goes off screen as well and the PC does not seem to recognize a USB connection.

No longer than 5 minutes, and even that's pretty long. If it's been longer than that you may need to start over and try again.
