[How-to] Guide to Rooting with software version LS670ZVC

So I started the original process and used the kp500 utility found here http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...-software-version-ls670zvc-24.html#post601470 . I cannot get the original root to take now so not sure what is going on. Here is waht I got right after the v9 restore

It can take anywhere from 1-20+ tries. Sometimes rebooting PC and phone helps.
The rage exploit depends on a race condition. It doesn't always hit gold.
If you want, try z4root from within android. It is often quicker at getting root (BTW it'll work in V9 but not VC)

im getting that also and i need it rooted so i can flash lego rom to get a gingerbread theme
Well, if you are truly getting the exact same error then it is because you typed the name of the cab file incorrectly.
The highlighted sections indicate that user typed
as the cab filename in KP500, when they should have typed
My suggestion is you read over step (p) very carefully including the section that addresses the common cause of the Extract cab file error.
Also review step (i) which verifies the checksum of the cab file.
huzzahHi, I got to the end of your instructions without any errors or problems, but when trying to install Xionia's Clockwork Custom Recovery and typing "adb shell" I get the "$" sign instead of the "#" sign. When I type "su" it says Permission denied. Does that mean I'm not rooted? Is there anyway to check if you're rooted and what should if I do if I'm still not rooted? When going through the instructions to get root I did get the "#" sign when I should have, so I thought that meant I did get root.
I was able to install Super User and Titanium Backup, so does that mean I have root? But when I tried the "mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system" for the custom recovery it says permission denied.
Also I have VC which I updated through the LGUpdate Tool.

having a bit of a problem.
step six, when i try adb shell i get -exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory <2>

Did you do step 4? If that step was skipped, you will see what you described.

I am having the same problem, and I did step 4. I reverted back to stock, applied V8 to V9 update, used LG updater to update to VC about an hour ago, did steps 1-5 on this guide.

You did do step 4, but you missed the part about placing the update.zip on your sdcard prior to starting the instructions:

What if the phone was not and is not rooted?
My brother also has an optimus but he is not very tech savvy so he has not rooted his phone. He saw CM7 and now wants that, but he updated via phone to VC. I know CM7 is compatible but do I need to revert back to V9 even though his phone has never been rooted? Or can I just root it as is?

If he updated to VC via Sprint's OTA update, then you need to revert.
If he updated to VC using the LG Software Updater tool, then you can root without doing anything extra.
