Newbie needs help with clockwork...

I just rooted my Fascinate and Im now trying to get clockworkmod to work. I havent made any upgrades yet. I wanted to back up before I upgrade to Froyo. Ive noticed that the ROM manager app is not supposed to work on the Fascinate. Ive also tried using a file... cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar. The instructions from the post said to hold down both volume buttons and power buttons and release after samsung logo flashes twice. Unfortunately this did not work either. I also noticed that some certain color clockworkmods wont work on Fascinate. I guess I'm more than confused now. How can I get this to work and/or do I need it? I also have Titanium Backup installed too.

if you have sc 2.9 hold down on your power button till the menu pops up and choose RECOVERY and it will bring you to CWM

Also read this through and it will tell you whats up and you can decide if you need it or not http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...0058-how-first-time-rooting-walk-through.html

EDIT: and this one as JOtenzi pointed thank him and Droidxcon http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...-clockworkmod-recovery-w-screen-captures.html

Still need help with clockworkmod on fascinate.

So I've read thru the how to guide for clockworkmod recovery. Thanks for pointing me to that. So here's the deal I'm still running original 2.1. After rooting and following the instructions in the how to guide I'm only able to enter clockworkmod once after using Odin to install. i reboot and try again but i only get the blue screen. Anybody else have this problem or know what's wrong?

yes boot into cwm then flash this KERNEL or any compatible kernel, after the first reboot the stock kernel takes priority over the cwm and forces you into stock recovery

I have a cwm related question/issue. I was on adrynalynes new ec10 kernel from the first post of his superclean thread. I created the disable_lagfix folder before flashing so I was never converted to voodoo. I then flashed times_infinty's comavolt nonvoodoo kernel in cwm. After flashing that, now when i go to recovery i go to blue instead of red. So to get my red cwm back do i just flash one of these new cwm files via odin?

Having the same issue as the guy above me. I click update.zip, it starts to load and then I get E: error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 2) installation abored

I download cwm all but it still is giving me an error, should I rename it update.zip?

I boot to blue, hit update.zip and get that error I mentioned a couple posts back. I put the CWMall on the sd and hit update.zip in blue again and get an error also. Everything was fine until I flashed a kernel.

I would almost guarantee that is the kernel you flashed... Running it now.. When you flash it it removes your resident CWM..

To get your CWM back you may have to flash your base ROM again sc 2.9.2 - you do not have to clear your data/wipe your phone..

Clear your dalvik cache and your cache partition.. Super Clean 2.9.2 has it CWM built in. Once you have that back you will retain all your user info and your apps.

Your CWM will be back..

If you choose to use that kernel again you will need to flash this CWM Version in the same flash session for both the kernel (first) and the CWM to stick.

I just realized after I typed this you have lost your flashing capability.. Sorry. I am so far out of my league with Mac to Fascinate connections.

I am going to have to turn this over to someone with more experience.

I am in the same boat. Im a mac user also but my phone is running fine now, so i am not in a rush to get to a pc, but can use a friends if needed.

I could reflash through odin correct? and would I want to reflash SC 2.9.2 or would I want to flash one of the new cwm all recoveries in odin?

I have no zip from sd card option because I am in blue..

For everyone who is running the times_infinity ComaVolt NONVOODOO kernel. I posted in his thread over at XDA last night and he is now aware of the problem of his nonvoodoo kernel reverting users back to stock blue recovery. He is looking at it and will work on a solution. Hopefully soon because I'm using is voodoo kernel and it is rock star material. Why it's so rock star I'm naming it the Charlie Sheen kernel. :D:p
Anyway, for those of you who want to continue to use this kernel and are not on a mac, you will need to flash the new cwm-all from GizmoDroid and jt1134 every time you want to use cwm.
For mac users, the only solution I can think of since you don't have ODIN would be to put the most recent update.zip on the base of our sd card, which should take you to red cwm-froyo, then from there choose install zip from sd card, then install the new cwm-all zip file from GizmoDroid and jt1134. Perhaps DroidXcon can chime in as to whether this would be the workaround for now. He is the real expert.

What exatcly does the comavolt kernel do? I read over on xda that it has comavolt voltage, but I am not sure what that means and couldn't find any other info on it.

ComaVolt is just the term he is using to refer to the level of undervolting he used. I don't know what that level is, you would have to ask him in his XDA thread.

I see... thanks. I also see a lot of people over there talking about set cpu... we don't need that do we?

I wouldn't bother with it. From my experience and others, it causes more problems than it helps.

General question on wiping data/factory reset:
Once you wipe, do you need to let the phone reboot or can you flash your ROM directly after?

Does that eliminate the need to "return to stock" when having issues with a ROM? I see a lot of folks saying to follow a long process of Odin re-flashes and then coming back to SC 2.9.2 to eliminate problems like "Sleep of death". Wouldn't a data wipe and then ROM flash accomplish the same thing?

data wipe, cache partition and dalvik cache should do the trick but sometimes data can be written to the wrong partition so returning to stock can help over write things like that. Returning to stock is just the most thorough way of fixing things

You're amazing. I'm not dumb (I used to think) but this was inscrutable til I found your instructions. I can't believe there are that many people who can do this stuff.
Thanks very much.
